It’s awards season in Hollywood, but actors George Clooney and Don Cheadle were in Rome today to accept an alltogether different honor.
The Ocean’s 13 co-stars accepted an award from Nobel peace prize laureates in recognition of their “Not On Our Watch” charity. Together with Brad Pitt, Clooney and Cheadle have used their celeb status to soapbox for Sudan’s Darfur region, raising money for refugees.
Upon receiving the award George deferred to the superior work of the Nobel laureates, saying “Don and I…stand here before you as failures,” to which we imagine the swooning laureates gushed, “Flattery will get you everywhere Mr. Clooney.”
Once decorum had been restored, the recent Golden Globe nominee continued, “The simple truth is that when it comes to the atrocities in Darfur those people are not better off now than they were years ago…the question will be asked: where was the rest of the world? And the answer will be: it just wasn’t a priority.”
