Pop singer Aaron Carter was arrested for investigation of marijuana possession Thursday after he was pulled over for speeding in Texas, authorities said.
Carter, 20, the younger brother of Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys, was in jail in Junction, Texas, awaiting a Friday morning appearance before a magistrate, Kimble County Sheriff Mike Chapman tells PEOPLE.
Carter’s Cadillac Escalade was pulled over for speeding in Junction at about noon on Thursday, said Chapman.
Officers found marijuana in the car, the sheriff said. There was nobody else in the car.
His arrest was first reported by TMZ.com.
Aaron Carter has hit back at Jack Osbourne’s comments he could “kick the s**t out of him”, and has branded the 20-year-old star a “brat”.
The feud was recently ignited when Osbourne criticised Carter for “pretending to be black” in new reality TV show House Of Carters, and admitted he would gladly start a fight with “irritating little b**tard” Carter.
But Carter has dismissed Osbourne’s claims he could beat him up.
He says, “He’s welcome to try to kick the s**t out of me any time he likes. I normally love Brits but this guy’s brain-dead. He comes across as the biggest brat of them all on his show”.
Brother Nick Carter adds, “What Jack Osbourne knows about talent would barely fit on a postage stamp”.

Pop star Aaron Carter wants his ex-fiancée Kari Ann Peniche to hand back $10,000 earrings he bought her during their nine-day engagement. The hitmaker, 18, asked former Miss Teen USA and Playboy model Peniche, 22, to marry him on stage at the Playboy Hollywood Comedy Tour in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 19.
However, on September 25, Carter realized he was too young to marry and ended both their relationship and engagement.
Carter tells gossip site PageSix.com, “It was just a big mess. She was pretty upset, but I just realized I made a mistake. I bought her earrings for $10,000. And I need to get ‘em, back. I need to get ‘em back!”

Peniche previously dated Carter’s older brother, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter.
AARON CARTER ENGAGED TO HIS BROTHER’S EX
Singer AARON CARTER is engaged to Playboy Playmate KARI ANN PENICHE, who previously dated his brother NICK.
The 18-year-old proposed to Peniche on Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada, while they were onstage in front of 200 people during the Playboy Comedy Tour at the Palms Casino Resort. She tells American publication People, “I’m very excited about it. Aaron is the most genuine person I know. He’s kind, loving, and I love him so much.” Peniche, 22, says she was shocked when Carter popped the question adding, “I had no idea he was going to do this, but I’m glad he did. I don’t remember it happening. It was such a blur.”
The couple, who plan to wed in the next six months, hugged and kissed after Peniche accepted the proposal. Playboy tour producer and comedian CORT MCCOWN says, “He said he was going to do it, but we thought he was kidding. He was really nervous.” Peniche was named Miss Teen USA in 2003, but had to relinquish her title after posing for Playboy.
Carter is set to star in a new reality show about his family, HOUSE OF CARTERS, which premieres next month on the American E! network.
