Looks like Alex Rodriguez and Bethenny Frankel weren’t a match made in heaven.

Less than a day after the Yankee slugger squired the “Real Housewives of New York” star around Miami after a chance encounter at a local hotel, A-Rod was seen canoodling poolside
with a “trashy blond girl,” a spy says.

“Alex and this girl were laying outside at the Delano, soaking up some sun,” our source reveals. “She’s definitely got the stripper look A-Rod seems to gravitate toward.”

Meanwhile, Frankel was on Miami TV stations shrilling for her new book, “Naturally Thin,” when a few unexpected questions were lobbed her way.
“One of the anchors started the interview by asking Bethenny if she was dating Alex,” laughs a source in Miami. “She was snippy, and you could tell she was bothered that this was cutting into her promotional time, but she handled it well, simply saying ‘I’m not answering that.’”

As for the unlikely twosome’s actual date, “Alex wanted to show her some of his Latin roots, something (ex-wife Cynthia) hated doing. So he took Bethenny to a Latin steakhouse in Coral Gables. It was very romantic,” our snitch shares.

But not romantic enough. “He dropped her off like a gentleman after the date, but they didn’t tear up the clubs the way Alex likes to,” says another insider. “And they definitely didn’t have sex.”

Adds a source close to Frankel: “It wasn’t love at first sight, and they’re not burning up the phones. Bethenny knows Alex is a serial dater and doesn’t want to get involved.”

Says Frankel’s rep: “Her first priority is her book and career.”

Meanwhile, those close to the Bronx Bomber claim that, following his recent hip surgery, A-Rod’s been telling everyone he’s eager to focus “on my training so I can get back on the field.”

Sure you don’t mean playing the field, Alex?

When it comes to dating housewives, A-Rod likes to keep it “Real.”

The Yankees slugger has been stepping out this weekend in Miami with Bethenny Frankel, one of the reality stars of “The Real Housewives of New York City.”

Alex Rodriguez and the sexy chef shared an intimate dinner on Friday night at a local restaurant, a spy tells the Daily News.

Rodriguez dropped off Frankel at the Fontainebleau Hotel around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Even though it ended fairly early – he has to watch that hip as he rehabs after surgery – the evening appears to have gone well. Word is the third baseman was due to make reservations for another dinner with Frankel Saturday night.

A source told The News’ Gatecrasher column last month that Frankel and A-Rod hooked up “three months ago” but that, after quickly rounding the bases, “A-Rod cut it off.”

Frankel later laughed off the gossip, telling an interviewer: “We’re madly in love; we’re engaged. I fly to Miami every weekend. I’m in the front row when they’re playing. I never felt this way.”

But really, she insisted, “No, I’ve never been in the same room with him,” adding, “Can it be George Clooney? Can’t it just be the celebrity I want to be aligned with?”

But rumor begat reality, according to one source, who said Rodriguez subsequently got in touch with Frankel.

“I think the reports sparked his curiosity,” said the insider. “I think he respected the way she denied it.”

Though, at 39, Frankel is five years older than Rodriguez, a friend said, “They could be a match. She’s very athletic – she snowboards and surfs. She’s an expert on nutrition. She’s also a no-nonsense, straight-shooting lady. And we know Alex likes strong women.”

Last summer, Rodriguez and his then-wife, Cynthia, went through a bitter divorce in which she accused him of having “an affair of the heart” with Madonna.

Now that her Madgesty has moved on to Brazilian boy toy Jesus Luz, Rodriguez has been playing the field.

He had a Valentine’s weekend dinner with model Melissa Britos – at the same hotel where Frankel is staying.

Frankel, also a divorcée, has endured one awkward date after another on “Real Housewives.”

Alex Rodriguez soaked up the love in Aspen this weekend, but he didn’t exactly give it back. The Yankees slugger was partying at the Caribou Club, enjoying the attention of “several cougars,” a source said, when he went to the bathroom. A male source added, “When he was done, he walked out of his stall, went up to the sink, primped himself in the mirror and walked out — without washing his hands. Nasty.” A-Rod then went back to the adoration of the ladies, but left by himself. His rep declined to comment.

A former Manhattan madam who supplied Eliot Spitzer with hookers also counted Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez as a customer – and found him so charming she dated him herself for free, former employees of the call-girl agency tell the Daily News.

A-Rod wooed ex-madam Kristin Davis with flowers, jewelry, persistence and heated e-mails, according to the sources.

“Throughout the years, there were a number of clients that I befriended and it was not uncommon for them to want the women they can’t have whether it be the phone bookers or the madam,” Davis said.

“In regard to Alex, all I can say is our paths have definitely crossed personally and professionally.”

Davis met Rodriguez in June of 2006 in a gym in Philadelphia, shortly after she opened a branch of her call-girl service in the City of Brotherly Love, sources said.

Davis told a friend the then-married Rodriguez asked her, “What are you doing tonight?”

The shapely madam didn’t know who A-Rod was but found him “hot as hell,” she told the friend. “I said, ‘I’m having dinner with my boyfriend. But if you’re looking for someone to hang out with, here’s a number.’ I gave him my agency’s card.”

That night, Davis told a friend, Rodriguez booked a two-hour “date” with one of her girls, who met him at the Four Seasons on Rittenhouse Square.

“He gave his real name,” Davis told the friend. “The next day we found out who Alex Rodriguez was. The girl we sent freaked out. Her father (works for) another Major League Baseball team.”

Rodriguez soon became a repeat customer of one of Davis’ three Manhattan agencies, two former employees said.

In an e-mail exchange provided to The News by a former booker for Davis’ Wicked Models, Rodriguez purportedly told Davis on Nov. 17, 2006: “Thanks for setting me up with Samantha. She was gorgeous. But she is not you. When can I see you you are gorgeous . . .”

The exchange goes on:

Davis: “Hi Alex. You don’t want to see me. I’m no fun. lol. Just because your (sic) so sweet, here are some pics of me and I appreciate the compliments. Your (sic) a doll. Thanks, Kristin”

Rodriguez: “You have been playing hard to get for a year now, your (sic) killing me.”

Davis: “It’s not playing I am hard to get. Maybe you should try harder.”

Rodriguez: “Kristin, I definitely will and I love the pics. I put the one on my cell so I can look at you all the time. Alex.”

Davis: “You are too sweet. I’ll let you know when I get someone you like.”

Two former agency workers said A-Rod hired prostitutes more than a half-dozen times, often meeting them at the Four Seasons hotel on W. 57th St.

Before he lied to her about steroids, Alex Rodriguez turned to Katie Couric for career advice.

On the “Late Show with David Letterman” Monday, Couric said she was speaking to Rodriguez frequently when he opted out of his contract in 2007, trying to convince him to do a “60 Minutes” interview.

At one point, Rodriguez called to ask her, “What team do you think I should play for?”

Letterman responded: “That should have told you he was on the juice, that he’s calling you.”

Rodriguez told Couric in the “60 Minutes” interview that he never took steroids, and it’s since been revealed that he had. Couric said Rodriguez both called and wrote a note to her recently to apologize.

Friday night, the embattled Yankee slugger hung out with Ingrid Casares at Scarpetta, a restaurant in the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach, but he played the field Saturday. By day, he was photographed with model Melissa Britos; at night, he went on a date with “three hot chicks” to Prime 112, in South Beach, as Britos hung solo at the Louis Bar & Lounge at the Gansevoort South. “He left with the stunning blonde at, like, 3 a.m.,” our spy said. Calvin Klein was also in Miami with “two model-type guys” at Meat Market. In New York, Paul McCartney took Nancy Shevell to the Oak Room at the Plaza, Jessica Simpson cozied up to Tony Romo at Serendipity 3, Boogie Dash made out with Chanel Iman at the Plumm, and Caroline Kennedy and Ed Schlossberg went to the Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel concert at the Beacon.

NOW that Madonna isn’t as interested in him anymore, Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez is playing the famous-faces field. He got hit on in Parrot Cay over New Year’s by Donna Karan, and last week he took Kate Hudson (above) out on a date. Our spy says they had a three-hour meal at the Lure Fishbar with friends and were very cozy. Later, A-Rod went with Hudson to the Rose Bar, where they met up with her friend Ron Burkle. Hudson, currently starring in “Bride Wars,” has been single since Lance Armstrong dumped her. Said her rep: “Kate was at Lure with a group of 10 people.”

Alex Rodriguez insists that he’s not moving in with Madonna – but a source says Her Madgesty is on a mission to find him a new home base just a stone’s throw from her own.

“Before his divorce, Alex was searching for houses on the upper East Side and Madonna offered to help him,” an insider tells us. “She wanted Alex to have a big house that would be suitable for kids, and she didn’t want a building with a nosy doorman who would talk. Madonna wanted a place where they could go and be together without prying eyes.”

Added a pal of the slugger: “They don’t want to be in the same apartment, but they do want to be near one another.”

In addition to Madonna’s apartment sleuthing, A-Rod’s friend says, “Both sides have sent their reps to look at places.”

Regardless of all the house-hunting, A-Rod claims that he and Madonna are “just friends,” despite the fact that both were conveniently in Mexico City last weekend. Rodriguez says his time was focused on running a baseball clinic for kids, but one source has a slightly different view of the all-star’s relationship with the Queen of Pop.

“Alex and Madonna are very, very cozy,” the insider reveals. “Yes, they are intimate, and they are intoxicated with one another. Alex can’t get over that he’s with Madonna.”

But the insider has some sage words of wisdom for Rodriguez: “This isn’t a deep and serious love affair. It will last as long as Madonna wants it to,” our leak predicts. “She could get five or six years out of it – but only if it’s in her best interest to keep him around.”

While speaking to PEOPLE about his latest charitable efforts, Yankees star Alex Rodriguez commented for the first time on his relationship with Madonna.

“We’re friends,” Rodriguez, 33, says.

Asked if there is any romance between them at all, Rodriguez reiterates, “We’re friends – that’s it.”

While rumors have swirled that the slugger and the singer, 50, have been carrying on a romantic relationship and flying around the country in order to spend time together, “I can tell you this,” Rodriguez says, “I have never been on a plane with her.”

He also finds much of what’s been written about them laughable: “I’ve been to two [of her] concerts, yet I’ve read that I went to 20. I’ve also read that we were buying an apartment together. That is absolutely ridiculous and not true.”

“You have to have a sense of humor when it comes to this stuff,” Rodriguez adds.

When pressed on how much time they have spent together, and whether he had ever stayed the night at Madonna’s home, Rodriguez laughed: “If I answered every rumor we’d be here for three weeks.”

(A source close to Rodriguez tells PEOPLE that reports of his spending the night with Madonna are “completely, unequivocably false.”)

Focused on Charity
While Rodriguez and Madonna were both in Mexico City last weekend, Rodriguez says his time was focused on running a baseball clinic for kids.

“When you’re among 200 kids and teaching the game of baseball it gives you an amazing feeling,” he says, “just that you may inspire kids to reach their goals, whether it’s baseball or whatever their goals might be.”

The desire to help children is something he and Madonna have in common – and one reason he has become a supporter of Madonna’s Raising Malawi charity.

“I initially knew nothing about her charity,” Rodriguez says. But after being invited to one of Madonna’s fundraisers, he found that “we shared a lot of the same commitments toward helping children. I was very moved by the whole thing. I saw the documentary and it was very inspiring and informative. I saw an opportunity to help and I jumped at that.”

Rodriguez jumped into three other philanthropic efforts on his own recently as well: He’s funding the completion of a Pediatric Outpatient Unit at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York City; funding a Community DentCare Network at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (to provide preventative dental services for kids); and completing a new learning center at the Boys and Girls Club in Miami that A-Rod himself frequented as a child.

“If it wasn’t for the Boys and Girls Club, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Rodriguez says. “So I feel a great responsibility to not only give money, but to be there, and to be seen by the kids. I still hang out at the Boys and Girls Club.”

Dealing With His Divorce
Rodriguez, who amicably settled his divorce with wife Cynthia, 35, in September, also addressed rumors that he and Cynthia had been arguing.

“I have a wonderful relationship with Cynthia,” says Rodriguez, who shared Thanksgiving dinner with his ex and their two children, Natasha, 4, and Ella, 7 months, last week. “We try to be the best parents we can.”

As for the amount of time he spends with his children, “I see my children, honestly, seven days a week, which has been great. We both have a lot of respect for each other and she’s a great lady.”

As for Madonna: “I have a lot of respect for her,” he says. “She’s very committed to making the world a better place. She’s had an amazing career, and we’re friends. That’s it.”
