The coroner who oversaw the inquest into the death of singer Amy Winehouse has resigned after her qualifications were questioned, her boss said Wednesday – raising the possibility the investigation may have to be held again.

Winehouse’s relatives said they were still absorbing the implications of the news and were seeking legal advice.

In October, Suzanne Greenaway ruled that the soul singer, who was found dead at her London home in July, had died from accidental alcohol poisoning.

Greenaway had been appointed an assistant deputy coroner in London in 2009 by her husband, Andrew Reid, the coroner for inner north London. But she resigned in November after authorities learned she had not been a registered U.K. lawyer for five years as required by the rules. She had practiced law for a decade in her native Australia.

Her resignation was not made public until Wednesday.

“I believed at the time that her experience as a solicitor and barrister in Australia satisfied the requirements of the post,” Reid said in a statement Wednesday. “In November of last year it became apparent that I had made an error in the appointment process and I accepted her resignation.”

Reid apparently broke no laws in appointing his wife but could have breached professional guidelines. Greenaway was one of several deputy assistant coroners.

The local authority, Camden Council, said it was confident Reid “had made an error in good faith” when he appointed his wife, but said the matter was being investigated by Britain’s Office for Judicial Complaints.

Greenaway oversaw 12 inquests in Camden, the north London borough where Winehouse lived, and others in east London. Reid said he was “confident that all of the inquests handled were done so correctly” – but offered to hold those inquests over again if the families of the deceased wanted it.

Winehouse’s family said it had not yet decided what to do. In a statement, the family said it was “taking advice on the implications of this and will decide if any further discussion with the authorities is needed.”

Winehouse’s inquest could be declared invalid if her family challenges the verdict in court. But on Wednesday her father, Mitch, appeared to downplay the likelihood, tweeting: “Don’t worry about coroner nonsense. We are all OK.”

A security guard found Winehouse dead in bed on July 23 at her home in Camden. The 27-year-old singer, known for her distinctive beehive hairdos and multiple Grammy-winning album “Back to Black,” had battled drug and alcohol addiction for years.

At the October inquest, Greenaway delivered a verdict of “death by misadventure,” saying the singer suffered accidental alcohol poisoning when she resumed drinking after weeks of abstinence.

The inquest heard evidence from a pathologist, Winehouse’s doctor, the security guard who found her and a detective who described seeing three empty vodka bottles in her bedroom. It appears unlikely that a second inquest would produce a different conclusion about how she died.

“Back to Black” brought Winehouse global fame and its updated take on old-time soul, jazz, rock and doo-wop earned five Grammy Awards.

Although the singer was adored by fans worldwide for her unique voice and style, praise for her singing was often eclipsed by lurid headlines about her destructive relationships and erratic behavior. Winehouse herself turned to her tumultuous life and personal demons for material, resulting in hit songs such as “Rehab” and “Love Is a Losing Game.”

The jailed husband of singer Amy Winehouse has started divorce proceedings against her, PEOPLE has confirmed.

Blake Fielder-Civil has instructed a lawyer to file papers. “I can confirm that I have been instructed to commence divorce proceedings on the grounds of Amy’s adultery,” Henri Brandman told PEOPLE, confirming a statement he made to a Sunday tabloid in the U.K.

And Fielder-Civil’s mother Georgette adds that it was she who contacted Brandman on her son’s behalf last week. She says, “I am just so relieved it’s going to be all over.”

The couple have been through many ups and downs and it is the second time in six weeks that Fielder-Civil or those close to him have spoken about a split.

Mrs. Civil vows: “It will go through this time, it will go ahead.”

Winehouse’s rep in the U.K., Chris Goodman, had no comment.

The singer has spent recent weeks vacationing in St. Lucia – often along side a hunky rugby player.

And the singer also seems to have gained a considerable amount of weight over the last month.

The star is currently receiving treatment at a London clinic after a drug overdose.

And by the looks of things, rehab is having a positive effect on the star as she seemed relaxed and enjoying the break while frolicking on the Caribbean beach.

The 25-year-old, who was admitted to a clinic last month after suffering ‘a bad reaction to her prescribed medication’, has also reportedly started daily two-hour sessions at the gym.

‘She has hired a personal trainer,’ a source revealed.

‘She’s very enthusiastic about her sessions and bounds in to work out on the bikes, weights and Power Plate.

Janis, Amy’s mother, recently revealed: ‘She’s being taken care of. She’s resting and eating well, and there are no drugs there.’

Husband Blake Fielder Civil, 26, has also been in rehab as part of his 27-month prison sentence for GBH and trial fixing, but failed a drugs test and was put back in jail.

He could now be in jail until early 2010 after breaking the early release terms of his 27-month sentence.

Fielder Civil told a tabloid of the extent of his drug-taking with award-winning singer Miss Winehouse, how he introduced his wife to hard drugs, and his fear as she collapsed with a seizure after an all-day binge.

The music video assistant, broke down as he told of how Amy asked him to let her try crack cocaine as she watched him taking it.

He revealed he was so consumed with remorse he considered taking his own life. ‘I feel like killing myself. I feel like f***** dying.’

Amy Winehouse’s spokesman says the troubled singer is being treated at a clinic following a reaction to medication.

Chris Goodman says Winehouse was admitted to the London Clinic on Sunday. He declined to identify the medication that caused the reaction.

The 25-year-old Grammy winner has a history of drug problems and has been in and out of hospitals this year.

On Monday, a British court rejected an appeal by Winehouse’s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, against his sentence for assault and obstructing justice. The judges urged him to continue making progress at a drug rehabilitation center.

And the pair of them were into some real kinky stuff, not just the usual bondage and sex games but really gross stuff you couldn’t mention in a newspaper.”

A wild-eyed Amy Winehouse was back on the rampage last night, storming through the streets of Camden in an uncontrollable state.

The Rehab singer was seen stumbling around outside her North London home in denim cut-off shorts and a tank top, obliviously to the chilly conditions.

She was mindlessly searching for her friend Blake Wood – also known as ‘Good Blake’ – knocking on her neighbours doors in the process.

Amy, who recently abandoned her matted beehive in favour of a curly look, eventually retired back to her house with a litre bottle of vodka all to herself.

Despite several medical interventions to address her well-documented substance abuse problems and time away from the spotlight, the 25-year-old appears to have resumed her notoriously erratic behavior.

Meanwhile, the singer is yet to reunite with her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who was released from jail into a rehab facility in Woking, Surrey, earlier this month.

He allegedly asked Amy to pay the £30,000 fee for his treatment for heroin and crack cocaine addiction, but she refused.

Blake has denied claims he has been dumped by the singer.

He boasted that the pair are still very much in love and that he is expecting a visit from Amy ‘at any time now.’

He declared: ‘We will be together for the rest of our lives.’

Amy’s mother Janis has said that she is praying that Blake stays away from her daughter.

Janis, 53, told Closer magazine that Amy was apparently devastated that he didn’t tell her he was getting out of prison before his release.

She said: ‘What sort of husband doesn’t tell his wife that he’s being released? That says it all really, doesn’t it?’

Blake was locked up for a year for his part in a vicious assault on a pub landlord.

Amy Winehouse didn’t get the reunion she was hoping for with her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who was released from jail Tuesday.

After serving 12 months behind behind bars, he’s thought to have checked into a rehab center, according to UK’s the Daily Mail

Winehouse was not at the prison as her husband was released.

Instead, the singer who was recently treated for a chest infection, stayed at their home in London’s Camden.

The paper reported she emerged from her home Tuesday afternoon with make-up smeared across her face, in an “agitated state” and lunged at a photographer.

Meanwhile, Fielder-Civil, was photographed smiling as he left jail but showed signs of his times behind bars, “sporting a chipped front tooth and red scratches down his arms.”

Fielder-Civil was sentenced to 27 months in jail after admitting that he beat up a pub manager in a barroom fight in 2006.

AMY WINEHOUSE’s junkie husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL has rejected a second chance to leave jail early — after prison bosses said he would have to go straight into rehab.

They offered to cut his stay at Suffolk’s Edmunds Hill prison by more than two months if he agreed to the detox. But he turned down the deal.

A week ago he was told he would be released if he went to live with his mother in Nottinghamshire and wore an electronic tag.

But again he chose his grubby life behind bars over freedom.

What a lovely bloke and caring husband he is.

Last night a friend of Amy said: “This will be another blow for her. Blake could have gone to rehab and sorted himself out but would rather see out his sentence in prison.

“All he wants is a free reign when he leaves, which means living with Amy back in Camden.

“But if he is turning down these chances to leave jail and get clean, it doesn’t bode well for him and Amy when he finally does get out.”
