Billionaire Donald Trump gave $10,000 to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to help pay off his campaign debts, a little more than a month after the governor guest-starred on Trump’s TV show “The Apprentice: Los Angeles,” according to a campaign filing.

In an episode that aired March 18, Schwarzenegger hosted five of the show’s contestants in his private conference room at the state Capitol.

The governor denies any link between the donation and the television appearance, but some political watchdog groups are skeptical.

“He’s clearly using his personal friendships and his celebrity to pay off his campaign debt, and that’s just wrong,” said Jamie Court, president of the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, a group that tracks campaign donations.

Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Julie Soderlund said the April 20 donation was not connected to the governor’s appearance on the NBC prime-time show. The taping took place earlier in the year, but she was unsure of the date.

Trump could not be reached for comment Saturday at his company’s headquarters in New York.

The donation was Trump’s first to Schwarzenegger, whom he described as great friend when he told a group of contenders that they would meet California’s governor as a reward for winning a competition. The show features Trump and contestants vying to work for him.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is headed to MTV to promote Earth Day with an 800-horsepower car that runs on renewable biodiesel fuel.

The governor’s appearance on a special Earth Day episode of the popular show “Pimp My Ride” set for Sunday is the latest environmentally themed event for Schwarzenegger, who drew international attention for signing a global warming law last year.

For the show, videotaped earlier, mechanics installed the powerful engine in a converted 1965 Chevy Impala, producing a vehicle that accelerates from zero to 60 mph in three seconds.

The governor said the converted car’s emissions of greenhouse gases will be 50 percent lower than a comparable gas-powered car. And biodiesel fuel can be made from recycled products such as vegetable oil.

“We take this cool show and they did something, and added something that was environmentally hip,” Schwarzenegger recently told a student crowd at Georgetown University.

When Schwarzenegger ran for governor in 2003, he was criticized for popularizing gas-guzzling Hummers. He has since reduced his personal Hummer fleet to four, two of which he says have since been converted to run on alternative fuels.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has gone from strong-arming bad guys in movies to muscling restaurant patrons out of their tables. The California governator stopped for lunch at Fred’s at Barneys with a squad of security men last Thursday, and they were immediately ushered to the back of the restaurant, next to a table where maternity de signer Liz Lange was noshing.. Lange was forced to move to make way for two of the guards. Another security man stood at the bar, and two more took their posts outside the front door. Schwarzenegger, who chewed with his mouth open, our spy said, didn’t say much to another agent sitting with him while he ate.

Arnold Schwarzenegger can’t shake his chronic foot-in-mouth disease. At the luncheon following his swearing-in in Sacramento last week, the Governator – on crutches and painkillers from the leg he shattered in a fall on an icy ski slope – fondly looked at Eunice Kennedy Shriver, 85, and said, “I’m so glad my mother-in-law is here. Doesn’t she look fabulous? She doesn’t look a day over 90.” To which, he quickly added, “Oh, I mean 60!” Some witnesses said it appeared Schwarzenegger’s addendum came after he got a swift kick under the table from wife Maria Shriver.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s pals Tom Arnold and Rob Lowe were among the dignitaries, politicians and celebrities who celebrated the start of the former actor’s second term as California Governor in Sacramento yesterday. Guitarist Jose Feliciano and stage musical icon Jennifer Holliday – the star of the original Dreamgirls – performed anthems and tributes to the star at his inaugural address, while Donna Summer and Paul Anka were among the celebrities on show at a lavish dinner last night.

The festivities marked Schwarzenegger’s first public appearances since fracturing his femur in a skiing accident in Aspen, Colorado just before Christmas. The former Hollywood action man used crutches to get around yesterday. He has been told he’ll need to stay on them for at least the first two months of his new term. Schwarzenegger was initially sworn in as Governor in November, 2003. He won a second term last year.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was recuperating in Sun Valley, Idaho, on Sunday, a day after he broke his leg while skiing there.

Schwarzenegger, 59, was “continuing to do well today and looking forward to spending time with his family,” spokeswoman Julie Soderlund said.

Doctors at the Sun Valley hospital who examined Schwarzenegger told him he needed surgery to repair his fractured femur. An operation has not been scheduled but will take place in Los Angeles, Soderlund said.

The governor’s staff would not release details about how he was hurt. Soderlund said that he was not fitted with a cast and that she did not know whether he was using a wheelchair or crutches.

The governor planned to stay through Christmas at his home in Sun Valley, a resort town where he often vacations, she said.

Schwarzenegger does not intend to delay his second inauguration, scheduled for Jan. 5, Soderlund said.

Actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has breezed to re-election as Governor of California, defeating Democrat rival Phil Angelides. The star won a landslide second term in office with his campaign team allegedly declaring victory at a Beverly Hills reception around 20 minutes after polls closed last night.

After casting his vote yesterday the Hollywood star admitted he was confident of victory, saying, “I think that the campaign was, in comparison to other campaigns, very positive, very upbeat.”

On hearing he’d been re-elected, Schwarzenegger said he couldn’t wait to bring all voters together to “live the Californian dream.” He added, “I’m honored to serve as your Governor.”

Schwarzenegger’s Republican win comes as the rest of America saw a tilt towards the Democrat party in the mid-term elections. But the 59-year-old hasn’t left himself much time to savor the victory – he leaves later today for a trade mission to Mexico.
