Ben Stiller, who starred in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story with Lance Armstrong, will be interviewed tonight during VERSUS’ Tour de France expanded primetime show, hosted by Bob Roll and Craig Hummer at 8 p.m. ET.

Check out the preview below:

Presented by Kiefer Sutherland, Zac Efron and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. One insider said, “It’s odd that all of his friends or people he hires for his movies didn’t do it.” But a rep for Stiller explained, ” ’24′ is Ben’s favorite show, he loves Triumph, and Zac is the MTV demographic.” As for Stiller’s pals? They were all working. Robert De Niro’s rep said, “Of course, [De Niro] would have loved to be there, but he’s filming in Chicago.” Owen Wilson “would have been there if he wasn’t working.” Dustin Hoffman is “out of the country. He would have loved to present to Ben at the MTV Movie Awards.” Amy Adams, Bill Hader and Jack Black were also too busy. MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said, “Ben’s a great guy. We love him, our audience loves him and his award moment went off as planned.”

In 2005, Joaquin Phoenix was an awards season favorite following his portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line, but fast-forward four years and he’s the newest object of unshaven mockery.

Late last year, Phoenix announced that he was retiring from acting to instead pursue a life-long dream of being a rapper. However, his recent (and very public) temper tantrums, bizarre behavior and unruly appearance have raised grave health concerns for the 34-year-old. Earlier this month, a disillusioned Phoenix appeared on The David Letterman Show where he spoke in monosyllabic slurs and stuck gum underneath the desk — providing great material for the 2009 Academy Awards on Sunday.

While presenting alongside Natalie Portman, Ben Stiller (donning an over-sized scruffy wig and fake beard) chomped loudly on his gum, prompting Portman (who was also in on the act) to chastise him. Stiller then pulled a Phoenix and stuck his gum on the podium.

The day before at the Independent Spirit Awards Phoenix also found himself the brunt of the joke. Comic host Steve Coonan dressed up as Batman and mimicked an uncensored “Christian Bale rant” alongside an actor resembling a highly disheveled, dribbling Phoenix. The next presenters on stage were “Juno” stars Ellen Page and Jason Bateman.

“Oh Ellen Page, why haven’t we seen you in a year?” Bateman asked. “Have you quit acting?”

So while we’re all laughing at these people pretending to be the actor-turned-rapper, it seems he is actually the one secretly laughing at all of us.

“Joaquin wanted this, of course he knew (about the parodies) because it’s all part of a very strategic plan,” said our inside source. “He is selling it all as a documentary not about his musical career but the whole issue of public persona. It’s all a big joke and he’s not pursuing rapping seriously no matter what he says.”

Phew – Ben Stiller can probably breathe a sigh of relief too.

“Ben (Stiller) was just going along with the joke that Joaquin started,” added our insider. “He wasn’t poking fun at him, there are no hard feelings.”

A rep for Phoenix did not respond for comment.

Ben Stiller has signed on for another “Meet the Parents” spinoff. But, this time, if he has to wear a bathing suit, you can bet it’ll be a baggy one.

Robert De Niro, who’ll return in the sequel (due to be called either “The Little Fockers” or “The God-Focker”), loves busting Stiller’s chops about the Speedo swimsuit he wore in the first movie.

“You expect him to be flabby and pale,” De Niro recalled at Wednesday’s Museum of the Moving Image tribute to Stiller. “But he’s actually totally buff. But he overcomes this contradiction by having a really tiny –. And in that suit, it’s apparent to everyone!”

De Niro was but one of the so-called friends who put Stiller on the rotisserie.

Sean Combs told the Cipriani crowd that “I put Ben in my video for ‘Bad Boy for Life.’ I thought he’d return the favor. But I guess I wasn’t black enough to be in ‘Tropic Thunder.’ Robert Downey Jr. was a little blacker. But that’s fine. I’m trying not to let my animosity affect my introduction.”

Jack Black held Stiller responsible for making him run around town looking for a tux: “The lady at Bergdorf’s measured my neck and said ’18.5 inches? That is too big, sir.’ So I walked three blocks to the big-and-tall store, where they welcomed me with beefy, open arms.”

Judd Apatow sent a video in which he remembered how Ben hired him, at 24 years old, as executive producer on “The Ben Stiller Show.” At the time, said Apatow, “I was writing jokes for Tom Arnold. Apparently that was good enough for Ben!”

Adam Sandler chimed in on the video: “This feels really kiss-a-y. You’re your own guy now, Judd. You don’t need to b– Stiller for the rest of your life.”
Mike Myers observed that “Ben is really good-looking and, because of my arrogance, I assumed he wasn’t funny.”

The evening, which included kinder words from Tom Cruise, baffled Jerry Stiller: “As I’m watching all this, I’m asking myself, ‘Am I the father?’”

Ben’s mom, comic Anne Meara, deadpanned, “When I first met Ben I was overweight, and it was via an emergency C-section.”

The review of his life seemed to leave Ben slightly numb. “I don’t really watch my own movies,” the funnyman told us before dedicating his award to Bono.

And why the shout-out to the U2 front man? “Just so I have something in common with him other than knowing all the words to ‘Achtung, Baby.’”

Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon are to star in a new comedy from Cameron Crowe, it has been confirmed.

Though no plot details for the as-yet-untitled film have been released, Variety reports that Stiller and Witherspoon have signed up to act in the Almost Famous director’s first film in three years.

As with his work on Vanilla Sky and Elizabethtown, Crowe is to write, produce and direct the film, which is expected to begin shooting in January.

With Columbia Pictures having outbid a reported four other studios for rights to the film, the deal returns Crowe to the production house for the first time since 2000′s Oscar-winning Almost Famous.

He also produced his biggest box office hit, 1996′s Jerry Maguire, with Columbia and worked with studio chief Amy Pascal almost 20 years ago on Say Anything.

Stiller, who will next hit UK screens alongside Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr in period comedy Tropic Thunder, is currently filming Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian – a sequel to his 2006 family hit.

Witherspoon, meanwhile, recently completed production on Four Christmases, during the filming of which she is rumoured to have clashed with co-star Vince Vaughan.
