“The Dark Knight Rises” may be Christian Bale’s final performance as crime-fighting superhero Batman, the actor told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Set for release in July, the movie is Bale’s third stint as Gotham’s Caped Crusader for director Christopher Nolan, after “Batman Begins” (2005) and “The Dark Knight” (2008).

“I wrapped a few days ago, so that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl off,” Bale told the newspaper during an interview in Beverly Hills. “I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris — that will be the end of that Batman era.

The 37-year-old actor’s comments, published late last week, weren’t his first indication that he might have reached the end of the Batmobile ride. Bale told E! News in November one year ago that “unless Chris says different, this will be the last time I’m playing Batman.”

Bale, who received an Oscar last year for his supporting performance in “The Fighter,” next appears on the big screen in Zhang Yimou’s China-set period drama “The Flowers of War.” He’ll also star in two films from “Tree of Life” director Terrence Malick.

Joining Bale in “The Dark Knight Rises” are Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway, as Catwoman.

Film actors who have preceded Bale in the dual role of Batman and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, include Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney.

Christian Bale hit the headlines earlier this year when an expletive-laced tape of him abusing a crew member on the set of Terminator Salvation was publicly leaked, and Bale takes full responsibility for his brutal behavior.

“There is really nothing I can say about that that I haven’t said already,” he said while promoting the flick over the weekend. “I haven’t tried to make any excuses for it, it was unacceptable. I take it as my fault and that’s it.”

However it seems Bale’s co-stars are applauding him for addressing the issue.

“As a person he is a consummate professional completely dedicated to his craft doesn’t give a crap about the bells and whistles of being famous and all that bull dust. So to work with him elevates your game as a person he is the supreme professional. That is what it is. He comes in does his job goes home to his kids. The proof is in the pudding look at his career,” Sam Worthington said, while Common added that Bale was, “misinterpreted, because any day you can catch any of us we might snap.”

And for fellow Terminator star Bryce Dallas Howard, the experience has made her more fearful of her chosen profession.

“It’s terrible for all of us that tape was released because when you are working on a set it’s a creative experience and you need a certain amount of protection and safety. That’s why it is a private experience that is why it is a closed set,” Howard explained. “When you are filming a really intense scene and the weather is crazy, you haven’t slept for 48 hours people are raw. I think Christian dealt with it with such integrity. Everyone has heard his apology and it’s totally genuine but I am disappointed for all us if (looks at Anton Yelchin and he nods in agreement) that we are all going to feel more careful. Because some individual, who still hasn’t been held accountable, released that (audio tape).”

The tape was initially leaked after being sent by studio executives to an insurance company incase Bale went ahead with his threats to bail on the film and although the source behind the leak was being investigated, no finger has yet to be pointed.

Batman star Christian Bale will not face charges relating to an alleged assault last month on his mother and sister, prosecutors said Thursday, suggesting their decision was based in part on the family members’ wishes.

Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said there was insufficient evidence to afford a “realistic prospect of conviction,” and ordered police not to take any further action.

The service said in a statement that while it “treats all incidents which take place in a domestic context seriously, it is important that the views of complainants are also taken into account when making decisions in such cases.”

Bale, who denies the allegation, said through his spokeswoman, Jennifer Allen, that he was relieved the issue had been settled.

The actor “hopes to put the matter firmly behind him” and will be providing no further comment, Allen said in a statement released by Bale’s lawyers.

His family had previously declined to comment, saying the issue was a personal matter.

British media had reported that Bale’s mother and sister told police he assaulted them at his suite at the luxury Dorchester Hotel on July 20, a day before he attended the European premiere of his film “The Dark Knight.” Bale has denied the accusation.

The Sun tabloid reported that police waited a day to arrest Bale so he could attend the film’s premiere in London’s Leicester Square. He was questioned for several hours at a police station before being released on bail.

The Wales-born actor first made a splash in 1987 as the child star of Steven Spielberg’s “Empire of the Sun.” He has played dark and sometimes sinister roles in such films as “American Psycho,” “The Machinist” and “Batman Begins.”

In “The Dark Knight,” Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, a brooding vigilante superhero still scarred by the murder of his parents.

Bale, 34, lives in the Los Angeles, California area with his wife, Sibi Blazic, and their young daughter.

Christian Bale skirted questions about the assault allegations against him Tuesday at the Japanese premiere of “The Dark Knight.”

British media has reported that Bale’s mother and sister told police he assaulted them at the hotel a day before attending the film’s European premiere.

But the Batman star managed to make it through the hugely successful movie’s premiere in Japan with virtually no comment on his personal problems.

“It’s a private matter,” he told a crowded news conference. Last week, in Spain, Bale brushed off reporters with a similar comment.

Bale has said through his lawyers that the assault allegations are false.

The 34-year-old Welsh actor’s personal drama hasn’t hurt the movie. It crossed the $300 million mark in just 10 days in the U.S. and is expected to do well in Europe and Asia.

Bale and his co-stars were at no loss for words over the performance of the late Heath Ledger, who stole the show with his eccentric and highly charged portrayal of the Joker.

“You could see how much glee and pleasure he got out of playing this character,” Bale said of Ledger, who died in January.

Bale was the child star of Steven Spielberg’s “Empire of the Sun” in 1987. His screen credits also include “American Psycho,” “The Machinist” and “Batman Begins.”

“The Joker claims the only things you can believe in are chaos and disorder,” Bale said. “There is some truth to that.”

Sources tell TMZ Christian Bale has had a long-standing difficult relationship with his mom and Bale’s camp believes the motivation for the whole assault charge may be $$$.

We’re told when Christian’s mom and dad divorced nearly two decades ago, his mom forced him to choose between the two. Christian picked his dad, and father and son moved out to L.A. in 1992, where his dad became his manager.

Somehow Bale’s relationship with the mom has been “bitter” ever since. Bale has told friends his mother was extremely jealous of both his and his dad’s success.

Last Sunday, Bale let his mom and sis into his hotel suite, though it was by no means an olive branch. As we first reported, there was physical contact, but somewhere in between a push and a brush. No one fell and no one was hurt.

Christian’s camp thinks this could be nothing more than a shakedown. We’re told some newspapers and mags have already been throwing around “insane” amounts of money for the story, so mom and sis could score big.

But our sources say the cops are starting to see the whole thing Christian’s way, and the charges could disappear faster than Batman.

Just one day after Christian Bale was arrested in London for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister, he hit the red carpet for The Dark Knight in Barcelona, Spain.

Bale, 34, did not speak to reporters at the Wednesday premiere, but did stop to pose for photographs outside the Coliseum Theater according to the Associated Press.

A calm looking Bale spent a half hour signing autographs before entering the theater, the AP reported.

Bale lashed out at his 61-year-old mother after she insulted his wife, Sibi Blazic a former model and personal assistant to Winona Ryder, London’s Daily Mail reported.

Citing “sources close to the actor,” the paper claims he “flew off the handle” at London’s Dorchester hotel Sunday after Jenny Bale said “some outrageous things.”

The source added: “Christian was stressed, but he didn’t lay a finger on anyone. He just got very loud.

“Christian’s attitude is that this was his mother’s fault because she became very provocative in an argument they were having,” the source added. “Things got out of control and he now says he wishes he just left the room.

“Normally Christian would just call a friend and go out to a pub to cool off,” the source said. “But he was literally trapped into this confrontation with his mother and sister because there was an army of fans and paparazzi outside.”

Bale- who has a 3-year-old daughter Emmaline with his wife – was arrested Tuesday after turning himself into police for questioning.

His attorney denied the assault allegations, adding that the actor “left the station without any charge being made against him by the police.”

According to the TMZ.com the actor lost his temper on the set of Terminator 4 just a few days before the alleged family incident, when the director of cinematography screwed up a shot.

The site claims he screamed “I will kick your a–,” along with other profanities.

The actor also snapped at an Us Weekly reporter at the NYC premiere of The Dark Knight on July 14.

Asked if co-star Heath Ledger would nab an Oscar for his role as the Joker, Bale snipped, “Anybody’s an a–hole, who would try to predict that,” before walking off.

Batman star Christian Bale confronted his mother after she allegedly insulted his wife, MailOnline has learned.

Sources close to the actor said he ‘flew off the handle’ at London’s Dorchester hotel after Jenny Bale said ‘some outrageous things’.

Yesterday, the Welsh-born actor was arrested and bailed over an assault claim, which he has denied.

However, a source close to the 34-year-old actor says Bale is confident he’s done nothing wrong, and blames his mother.

He is also said to have become depressed over the death of close friend and co-star Heath Ledger.

The source said: ‘Christian was stressed, but he didn’t lay a finger on anyone. Instead, he flew off the handle and cussed his mother. He just got very loud because his mother was saying some very outrageous things about him, and his wife.’

‘Christian’s attitude is that this was his mother’s fault because she became very provocative in an argument they were having,’ the source said, adding: ‘Things got out of control and he now says he wishes he just left the room.

‘Normally Christian would just call a friend and go out to a pub to cool off. But he was literally trapped into this confrontation with his mother and sister because there was an army of fans and paparazzi outside.’

The incident apparently comes at a time when his marriage to Sandra ‘Sibi’ Blazic, a former model and make-up artist, is enduring difficulties.

‘He has stresses in his marriage,’ the source said. ‘He can have a terrible temper. Instead of lashing out at his wife, he sometimes lashes out at people around him.’

The source added: ‘His marriage is not perfect, but his relationship with his mother is in much more trouble.

They’re going to need a “cooling off” period because his mother said some pretty outrageous things to him that really set him off.

‘He regrets the way she treated him in their argument a lot more than having to talk to police about it. Christian has admitted that something just snapped, but he didn’t threaten anyone with violence.

‘He’s under a lot of pressure right now and simply got incredibly loud with members of his family around. I think his wife is going to be very important to him after all this is over because she does, at the end of the day, know how to calm him down.’

Bale’s wife, who has been married to him for eight years, was by his side at the premiere of The Dark Knight, which was also attended by co-stars Sir Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart.

The source also claimed Bale had been deeply affected by the death of Ledger, who was found dead earlier this year from an overdose of anti-depressants and sleeping tablets.

‘Without Ledger around, he’s found it more and more difficult to communicate with those around him, especially his family.’

It was reported he found it hard to shake off the mental strains of the role, and told an interviewer he was having trouble sleeping.

The two actors, known for being intense about their craft, formed a friendship when they both played Bob Dylan in the 2007 movie I’m Not There.

A friend said: ‘Christian pretends he’s calm and collected but you really started to see the cracks in his façade in January, right after Heath Ledger had died.

‘Christian was in the middle of a very brief break from work when he heard the news, and it was massive blow to him.

‘They had become very close during the making of The Dark Knight and Christian went into virtual hiding for the six weeks after Heath was found dead.

‘He wasn’t returning phone calls and he wasn’t a happy man. It’s foolish to think that he’s been able to completely shake off that grief just as Heath and his work is finally being seen by audiences.

‘He expected to share this moment with his friend, and now he can’t.

In a recent interview, Bale admitted that he has been depressed and has experienced bouts of insomnia.

Yesterday he spent nearly five hours being questioned at Belgravia police station.

The multi-millionaire actor, who shot to fame aged 13, refused to comment as he was driven back to the Dorchester in one of the hotel’s limousines.

His spokesman said he denied the accusations against him and claimed that the assault allegation was made by Bale’s mother and sister.

His lawyer said: ‘Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister.

‘Mr Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale.’

However, talking to the Daily Mail yesterday, Bale’s mother Jenny insisted she was not the one who called police.

Sharon and Jenny Bale had travelled from their homes in Dorset to attend Monday night’s premiere in London’s Leicester Square.

They were in Bale’s hotel suite in Park Lane on Sunday when the actor allegedly angrily lashed out at them.

Having been told about the incident, police waited until they had spoken to his alleged victims before taking action.

Sharon and Jenny Bale called at a Hampshire police station on Monday to make their statements, which were then passed on to the Metropolitan Police for further investigation.

Bale agreed to be interviewed yesterday. He arrived at Belgravia police station at 11.40am and did not leave until 4.20pm.

He was released on bail until September pending further inquiries.

Yesterday, at her £275,000, detached house in Dorset, Jenny Bale said: ‘Yes I was there and yes there was a family situation but the police are handling it and I cannot say any more at the moment. We didn’t call the police to the scene. I can’t say any more but we didn’t call the police.’

Computer programmer Sharon initially denied any knowledge of an assault, but then admitted there was ‘an incident’.

Talking at her £240,000 semi-detached home in nearby Wimborne she said: ‘There was an incident but the police are dealing with it. It is an extremely sensitive situation.’

Christian Bale’s attorneys released a statement Tuesday denying assault allegations that led to the actor’s arrest in London.

“Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister,” the star’s lawyers said in the statement. “Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale.”

Bale, 34, was arrested in the Belgravia precinct station on Tuesday for a Sunday incident in which he allegedly lashed out at his mother, Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, at London’s Dorchester Hotel. He was staying at the hotel before Monday’s U.K. premiere of The Dark Knight.

“There was an incident but the police are dealing with it,” Sharon told the Telegraph newspaper in the U.K. “It is an extremely sensitive situation. There is nothing more I can say.”

According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, the women reported the incident in Hampshire on Monday, and the case was turned over to London officers.

Bale was released later Tuesday with a 10-man police escort, in a blacked-out silver Mercedes people carrier. Bale is to return to police in September, pending further inquiry, a police spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

It is a policy in England to arrest a suspect before questioning him in connection to a possible crime. Bale has not been formally charged.
