Colin Farrell is single and free to hell-raise once more again after finishing his latest relationship.

The Hollywood star, who picked up a Golden Globe last month, ended his romance to English writer Emma Forrest after a whole impressive year.

The couple had begun dating after they were introduced by Martin McDonaugh, who directed In Bruges, the film which earned the Irishman his gong.

But London-born Emma confirmed the split to American magazine InTouch.

An insider told the publication that Emma felt slighted by her famous boyfriend when he failed to thank her during his Golden Globes speech last month.

A source said: ‘He would not introduce her to his family. She was also upset that he didn’t thank her at the Golden Globe Awards.’

Novelist and journalist Emma was credited with being a stabilising influence in the actor’s life.

Reports last year at one point even claimed the couple were planning to start a family and Colin was planning to convert to Judaism, Emma’s religion.

During the early days of the couple’s romance, a friend of the actor said: ‘Colin is a changed man. Emma has been a steadying influence and they have hit it off big time.

‘They have spent months trying to keep the relationship under wraps because they are falling madly in love.’

Farrell’s image of lothario came into serious question as he dated Irish university student Muireann McDonnell for two years before Emma.

The Phone Booth actor was previously married to English actress Amelia Warner for four months and has a five-year-old son James from his brief romance to Canadian model Kim Bordenave.

Emma moved to Los Angeles 11 years ago and has published four books, including the fictional novels Namedropper, Thin Skin and Cherries in the Snow.

Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp & Jude Law hit headlines earlier this year when they stepped in to help finish Heath Ledger’s final film “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” — but the decision to climb on board and bring to life his good friend’s role was torment for Farrell.

“It was a very difficult decision to make, when I first heard about it I totally freaked at the idea,” Farrell told Tarts. “But it was important to get Heath’s work out and doing what I think Heath would have wanted, which was finishing the movie to its entirety.”

Just as the decision wasn’t easy for the Irish actor, it wasn’t easy for the film’s existing stars.

“I don’t know how I feel about it,” Verne “Mini-Me” Troyer hesitantly told Tarts earlier this year. “Part of me thinks maybe it would be better to leave it be (and not replace Ledger).”

But back to Farrell, the “Pride & Glory” star has also battling a demon of his own — alcoholism. The 32-year-old recently came forth and admitted to the BBC that his addiction almost cost him his life.

“I’m just keeping myself as busy I can with work,” he told us. “Trying to behave.”

Colin Farrell is admitting that he lacks gun control – and that may explain why the Irish actor has a love/hate relationship with revolvers.
“I don’t like guns much, and the reason I don’t like them is because I do like them,” Farrell told us at the NYC premiere of his latest, “Pride and Glory.” “If you put one in my hand, I feel incredibly omnipotent. And I hate that truth.”

So what’s the biggest gun he’s ever held? “Oh, come now – rumors will start!” joked Farrell, who plays a dirty NYPD cop in the thriller. “A .50-caliber rifle. We shot a deck of playing cards, with a very delicate scope, lined up 400 yards away when we were practicing for ‘S.W.A.T.’”

Meanwhile, writer/director Gavin O’Connor told us that despite coming from a family of NYPD’s finest, he’s had a few skirmishes with the law. “I’ve had run-ins with the cops,” he said. “They were youthful indiscretions where my old man showed up at the precinct and bailed me out. There was a stern lecture on the way home.”

And Lake Bell, who plays Farrell’s wife in the flick (and once dated the actor), told us: “I would be a crap NYPD cop. I’d get on the scene and ask if we could all talk and work things out. I’d also have a karaoke machine in my car instead of a shotgun. I’d sing Mariah Carey. Make songs, not war.”

The lusty leprechaun has lost so much weight for the part, he’s almost unrecognizable, and he was spotted Tuesday in New York acting loopy. “He was looking at ties in Bloomingdale’s and faking a Spanish accent to the cashier,” said our spy. “He was rail thin. One customer asked ‘Are you Colin?’ And he said, ‘Who’s that?’ in a weird fake voice and stormed off.” Farrell’s rep said “he’s in Spain shooting a film.”

COLIN Farrell doesn’t always score. The handsome Irishman struck out when he hit on gorgeous model Meghan Lowther at the Rose Bar in the Gramercy Park Hotel the other night. Farrell, who was with a couple of wingmen, ogled Lowther and then walked over as she was ordering a drink. He bumped into the fellow next to her and asked, “Who is this guy?” Lowther replied, “He’s my boyfriend.” Farrell then told the guy, “You’ve got the most beautiful girl in the place, and you can’t blame a guy for trying.” The boyfriend replied, “You tried. Now get out of here.”

Collin Farrel and his son

Hollywood superstar Colin Farrell yesterday opened his heart and revealed that his four-year-old son James is a special-needs child.

The renowned Irish actor revealed that his treasured son was born with a rare form of cerebral palsy called Angelman Syndrome.

In a moving interview, the actor described how the condition has affected his sons speech and mobility.

But despite the heartbreak the syndrome has caused he said that he is “incredibly blessed to have him in my life” and told of his joy when James recently took his first steps.

He said that his son had shown “amazing courage” in the first four years of his life and that he is an “incredibly happy boy” despite his condition.

Ironically Colin – who has joint custody of James with his mother Kim Bordenave – proudly led the Irish team to Croke Park for the Special Olympics before his son was born.

Colin – who has starred in such movies as Miami Vice and Phone Booth – said that James has “enriched” his life “incredibly.”

And he said that he is dedicated to helping his son reach his own “individual potential” and to be “as happy as he can be.”

”With my son the only time I’m reminded that there is something different about him – that he has some deviation of what is perceived to be normal – is when I see him with other four-year-olds.

“Then I go “oh yeah” and it comes back to me. But from day one I felt that he’s the way he’s meant to be.”

The actor spoke with pride about the barriers his son has overcome in the first four years of his life – and paid tribute to his exgirlfriend Kim for being proactive in getting James the early intervention he needs.

“He took his first steps about six weeks ago and it was four years in the making. All the work is his, he worked his arse off for four years.”

“And when he took the first steps it was incredibly emotional, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”

He’s broken that barrier and its all about building on that now.

Although Colin has been juggling a career in Hollywood since he first burst onto the scene in 2003, he is dedicated to spending as much time as possible with his son.

Little James has already met with his extended family in Dublin and even Colin’s new girlfriend, Irish student Muireann McDonnell.

The irony of having a child with special needs – months after becoming involved in the Special Olympics and being faced with the same challenges – is not lost on the actor.

But, he is adamant that anyone who has a disability can still contribute to society and have a full and happy life.

“Its mad the way the world works. It’s bizarre. I experienced the overwhelming effect of being around those athletes pretty much just before my son was born with special needs.

“I have never thought of my son as being someone with a disability. It goes back to special needs and what is a disability and what isn’t”.

COLIN Farrell, good Samaritan? The Irish actor – in Toronto promoting “Cassandra’s Dream” with costar Ewan McGregor and director Woody Allen – was informed by a hobo begging outside the Hotel Inter-Continental, “It’s my 55th birthday tomorrow.” Canadian columnist Shinan Govani reports that Farrell promptly loaded the vagrant into his SUV, took him to a “travel outfitters” shop called Europe Bound and bought him a two-person thermal sleeping bag, new clothes and some luggage. Then he gave him a wad of cash, according to Govani.
