Reese on meeting Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge

Reese: Somebody called me and said we’re having a really small fundraiser would you want to come over and meet the Prince and Princess? I was like, Yes. My husband just thought I was so dorky. He was like, why are you so excited? I must of tried on like six outfits. I’m meeting a princess. You don’t understand. You have to be wearing the right outfit and the whole thing. I don’t know maybe we can be friends. So we went and it’s always funny. Whenever I am super excited about things, my husband calls it the double barrel. That’s when I smile so big I look like a child.

Ellen: You really do look happy (shows photo) You’re just beaming.

Reese: I was so excited to meet her. Y’all, she’s a princess.

Ellen: Was she nice? Do you think y’all will hang out?

Reese: I mean, I would like to hang out. I’m not sure she wants to hang out with me. I could see that happening.

Ellen: Was she down to earth?

Reese: She was really nice. She was lovely. She’s so composed. She seems like such a lady and I think it’s so nice now days to see someone with such nice composure and carries herself so beautifully.

Ellen: Well, that’s great that you got to meet her and have fun… Maybe you’ll hang out.

Reese: Maybe (looks to camera) Call me. Call me anytime.

Ellen: You can play with your Chia Pets together.

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres talks about Prop 8 being overturned and responds to the “One Million Moms” protest against her partnership with JC Penny. This episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” airs on Wednesday, February 8th.

Ellen on Prop 8 and “One Million Moms”

“There was some good news for marriage equality in California yesterday. If you haven’t been following it, I’ll you catch you up – for a long time, same-sex marriage was not legal. Then, here in California, it was legal for like 25 minutes. Then it was not legal again because of something called Prop 8, which banned same-sex marriage. And I’m happy to say that yesterday an appeals court ruled that Prop 8 was unconstitutional.

I’m sure the people who oppose it will try to appeal it – but it’s a step in the right direction. So I’m happy.

However, it leads me to something else I’d like to talk about. You all may know that I’ve recently teamed up with JC Penney. I’m very excited about that. Not only because I think they’re a great store, but also because I get a great employee discount. And I could use some new t-shirts.

I’m happy about it. JC Penney is happy about it. But there’s a group called One Million Moms that isn’t happy about it. And normally I try not to pay attention to my haters – but this time I’d like to talk about it because my haters are my motivators.

This organization doesn’t think I should be the spokesperson because I’m gay. For those of you who are just tuning in for the first time, it’s true. I’m gay. I hope you were sitting down. I hate to break it to you this way but anyway…

They wanted to get me fired and I’m proud and happy to say that JC Penney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson. Which is great news for me because I also need some new crew socks. I’m really going to clean up with this discount.

I mean, if they have a problem with spokespeople, what about the Pillsbury doughboy? He runs around without any pants on, basically begging for people to poke his belly. What kind of message is that?

After JC Penney didn’t back down I thought the story would be over. It’s going to go away. Heard about it last week and it did not go away. The group has posted a message on their Facebook page. We’ll read it together

One Million Mom Statement
“By jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon, JC Penney is attempting to gain a new target market and in the process will lose customers with traditional values that have been faithful to them over all these years. The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there.”

First of all, being gay or pro-gay isn’t a bandwagon. You don’t get a free ride anywhere. There’s no music. And occasionally we’ll sing “We Are Family” but that’s about it.

Secondly, they said a majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and not shop there anymore. I’d like to read just a few comments from the Million Moms Facebook page. This is on their page. And not that there’s anyone counting, but for a group that calls themselves a Million Moms, they only have 40,000 members on their page. So they’re rounding up to the nearest million and I get that.

Anyway, here are some comments that people wrote on their Facebook page:

- “Love Ellen and everything she stands for. I’m going to shop there more now!”

- “Guess I have to start shopping at JC Penney now.”

- “Way to go JC Penney for not giving in to bullies. Stand your ground.”

- “I am a Christian and part of a traditional family and I support Ellen and now JC Penney!!!!”

I usually don’t talk about stuff like this on my show but I really want to thank everyone who is supporting me. If you don’t know me very well. If you’re just watching maybe for the first time or you’re just getting to know me. I want to be clear. Here are the values I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you’d want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values. That’s what I stand for…I also believe in dance,” said talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

The Cast of “The Voice,” CHRISTINA AGUILERA, ADAM LEVINE and BLAKE SHELTON make an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Friday, February 3rd. Ellen talks with the cast about Randy Jackson’s comments on “The Voice.”

Adam Levine on Randy Jackson’s comment about ‘The Voice.”

Ellen: So Randy Jackson said, basically because there are bunch of singing competitions on the air right now. Randy said that, ‘The Voice” is basically kind of a second chance place. People that don’t get in someplace else go to ‘The Voice.”

Adam Levine: I heard about this. Shame on Randy Jackson for saying that because he out of anybody should know that if you’re in this business you need second, third, fourth and fifth chances. So we love and embrace that being part of the show. You know, god bless Randy. He was a working musician for a long time and had a lot of success and then the show “Idol” kind of blew him out of the water. And he is a household name now. It was an irresponsible thing to say that.

Comedian RICKY GERVAIS makes an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, January 12, 2012. Ricky tells Ellen why he chose to host the Golden Globe Awards again and what the audience can expect at this year’s awards.

Ricky on why he chose to host the Golden Globes awards again…

Ellen: What made you change your mind? You said, you weren’t going to do it again. You said, for sure you wouldn’t do it. And now you’re doing it.

Ricky: The reason I said yes the first time was because I was very flattered. It was a huge global audience for a comedian. I like writing jokes. That’s what I do. The reason I did it the second time, was I thought I could improve on the first. Which, I think I did. I wasn’t going to do it again but there were loads of people in the press saying I’d never be invited back and that’s why I said yes.

Ellen: Because you were invited back.

Ricky: So I could go, see I was….

Ellen: Where you surprised at the criticism?

Ricky: I knew what I was doing. It’s the same as stand up. I know where the gasps are going to come. I know when the laughs are going to come…I knew all that. I didn’t think the press would…I mean you usually have to kill someone to get that many columnists. They were still talking about it so I was shocked at the reaction. Yeah, yeah, I was.

Ellen: Do you think that they’ll be kinder because now they realize, oh everyone is his side. So now they’re going to be on your side?

Ricky: I don’t think I was nasty. If they saw mystand-up their heads would explode… People say is there anything you shouldn’t joke about? I don’t think there is. I just think it depends what the joke is. Comedy comes from either a good or a bad place and I was just teasing them, ya know. It wasn’t a room full of wounded soldiers. These are the richest most privileged people in the world…

Ellen: Right…

BONO makes his first appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, December 1st. Ellen and Bono talk (via satellite) about “World Aids Day” and Ellen recently being named Special Envoy for Global AIDS Awareness. Plus, Bono reveals why he does not like to listen to his own music.

Bono on Ellen being named Special Envoy for Global AIDS Awareness…

Bono: I don’t think Secretary of State Clinton could’ve of picked a better ambassador then you. I guess people must be sick of me talking about this stuff. I’m certainly sick sometimes and you’re just much nicer on the eye. You can dance.

Ellen: You’re sweet. I like the way you dance. You’re not too bad on stage Bono. I don’t know if you know that…

Bono on listening to his own music…

Ellen: You don’t like hearing your own music? Is that true? I heard that you don’t listen to yourself?

Bono: Yeah know, it’s a funny thing. I do try to avoid it. If I hear our songs on the radio I tend to turn them down. Not because I don’t like them or believe in them. Actually, my voice annoys me. I always think I could of sang it better. I am sort of a macho, Irish guy and particularly in those 80’s songs I think I sound like a girl.

Ellen: Well, you sound like a real pretty girl. I’ll tell you that. You sound great. I love your voice. I love the band…

Bono on the fight against Aids…

Bono: In the United States there is all kinds of bad news at the moment. I just think it’s such great news to be able to say that the end of Aids as this phenomenon that’s caused so much hardship is in sight. And, that is just astonishing. This “Worlds Aids Day” we can announce the beginning of the end of Aids…if people want it so.

Ellen: We can’t thank you enough because you really have been such a powerful force in letting everybody know what is going on. Thank you for being you. For not just being a cool rock star but a humanitarian…
