‘Spain’ Episode 7

So, we are reaching that time – the halfway point of the season. After this week, there are only six episodes left! So, make sure to tune in to this week’s episode. Here is the teaser for Episode 7, which will air this weekend:
I have included a recipe for Fried Fish with Curry Sauce courtesy of Mario Batali and the rest of the cast!
Episode 7 – Fried Fish with Curry Sauce
Serves 2
· 4 to 6 cups extra-virgin olive oil, for deep-frying
· Four 3-ounce white fish fillets, such as perch or cod, skin on
· Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
· Flour for dredging
· 6 spinach leaves
· Curry Sauce (recipe follows)
· 1 tablespoon toasted pine nuts
· 1 tablespoon toasted pistachios
· I tablespoon dried currants
Heat 3 inches of olive oil in a medium heavy pot until it reaches 380ºF. Sprinkle the fish with salt and pepper, dredge in the flour, shaking off the excess, and add to the hot oil. Fry for about 3 minutes, or until browned and crisp. Transfer to a plate. Add the spinach to the hot oil and fry for about 30 seconds, until bright green and crispy. Spoon the sauce over the fish and garnish with the spinach leaves, pine nuts, pistachios, and currants.

Gwyneth Paltrow: I’m Supporting Madonna “In All the Ways That I Can”

Gwyneth Paltrow is helping Madonna get through her divorce from Guy Ritchie.
“You know, she’s a dear friend, and I’m supporting her in all [the] ways that I can,” Paltrow, 36, said at the Two Lovers Premiere in London Monday.
“I’m just here for her,” Paltrow added. “I’m just here on the other end of the phone, really.”
Paltrow says she’s been in constant contact with her pal.
“I speak to her a lot,” she said.
Madonna, 50, and Ritchie, 40, announced their split after seven years of marriage on Oct. 15.
The Material Girl has been traveling the world on her Sticky & Sweet tour, while Ritchie has been working on his flick, Sherlock Holmes near London.
Over the weekend, British papers reported the couple had struck a deal over their finances (they’re worth a reported $525 million) and how to split their four properties. They do not have a prenuptial agreement.
The Mail also claims they’ve agreed to a custody agreement of their children, Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, who was adopted in Malawi in 2006. Madonna also has a daughter, Lourdes, 12, from a previous relationship with fitness instructor Carlos Leon.
But Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s rep, tells the Associated Press: “I will not be commenting on the various reports regarding the divorce or of the settlement which has not been finalized.”

Gwyneth Paltrow spent months begging Madonna to try and save her marriage

Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow spent the past few months desperately trying to convince her best friend Madonna not to separate from Guy Ritchie, MailOnline can reveal.
The 36-year-old believes Madonna and Guy, who announced the end of their nearly eight-year marriage today, should remain together for the sake of their three children.
Gwyneth is said to have advised her friend to think long and hard about the effects a divorce from the film director will have on Rocco, eight, adopted David Banda, two, and Lourdes, Madonna’s 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
A source told MailOnline: ‘Gwyneth begged Madonna all summer not to be an idiot and let this marriage fall apart.’
Like Madonna, the Shakespeare In Love star is an American married to an Englishman, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and alternates her time between her homes in London and New York.
Gwyneth is also said to have developed a soft spot for toddler David and would be devastated to lose regular contact with him as well as with her best friend.
The source said: ‘Gwyneth is in love with that little boy and sees him several times a week while she’s in London, and she has as much at stake as anyone in seeing his parents stay together.
‘She just doesn’t think it’s possible that Madonna and Guy would hurt their children by splitting up, and says she has actively advised both of them to put their problems and their egos aside for the sake of the children.

‘But Madonna can be very hard-headed and treats Gwyneth like a younger sister. If Madonna goes through with a divorce it’s going to break Gwyneth’s heart and affect their friendship permanently.’
Adding to Gwyneth’s determination to keep her friends together is her belief that Guy is an excellent parent to the couple’s children.
The source said: ‘Gwyneth considers Madonna to be a very progressive parent, especially when it comes to keeping Lourdes tuned into her roots and encouraging her relationship with Carlos Leon.
‘That Guy has gone along with that is very impressive to Gwyneth, and just one other reason she the thinks they’re not going to divorce over any issue with the children, no matter how rough things get.’
The domesticated actress is also concerned she’ll lose contact with the fiercely independent Madonna once she’s single again.

‘Gwyneth loves being a mom and loves having Madonna as a confidant about marriage, motherhood and keeping a home together in the public eye,’ the source continued.
‘For those reasons alone, Madonna becoming single again is Gwyneth’s worst nightmare. Overnight, they’d go from having everything in common to almost nothing.
‘I don’t think their friendship could survive, especially if Madonna is the one who forces the split.’
However, despite the major upheavals in Madonna’s personal life, it’s unlikely the pop superstar will abandon London for good.
The source said: ‘No matter what happens, with Gwyneth’s help, Madonna has made a home in England, and she’s staying. She loves it there, and has more friends than reports have lead on. England is in her blood, and she won’t walk away from it even if her marriage goes south.
‘For Gwyneth’s part, if they break up, she’ll have to stay friends with Madonna and Guy because she loves those kids so much and Chris and Guy have a very solid friendship as well.’

Spain…on the road Again

So, this week we actually have one of Mario Batali’s recipes that will be featured in the upcoming episode (see below for Cocochas al Pil-Pil).
Here is the link to the teaser for this week’s new episode, episode 5: “Basking in Basque Country”:
*Episode 105 Recipe – Cocochas al Pil-Pil*
· About 18 cocochas (hake cheeks; you can substitute 8-ounce hake or cod fillet, cut into 1-inch pieces)
· 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
· 2 tablespoons finely minced Italian parsley, plus extra for garnish
· 1 teaspoon finely minced garlic
· Good olive oil
Arrange the cocochas in a single layer in a cazuela that holds them snugly. Sprinkle with the salt, parsley, and garlic, and add enough olive oil to come halfway up the cocochas. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat and cook at a bare simmer for about 10 minutes, until the cheeks are just cooked through.
Pour off the oil and reserve. Attach a handle to the cazuela, and add a few drops of room-temperature water and a bit of the reserved olive oil, swirling the dish to mix. Continue adding the olive oil little by little and swirling the dish rapidly until the sauce is emulsified and thick and coats the cocochas, about 5 minutes; if necessary, add a bit of water to keep the mixture under 200°F. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
