Though Lindsay Lohan told cameras on Monday she’s still with boyfriend Harry Morton, he’s got a different story.

“Lindsay is an amazing girl and we’re just sort of taking a little breather right now,” Morton told “EXTRA” correspondent Carlos Diaz, adding the two are “slowing things down.”

The pair garnered a lot of attention from the paparazzi, something Morton took issue with. He tells Diaz, “There’s just a lot of pressure sometimes, it can screw things up, the media getting involved, it always makes it more difficult.”

Harry’s also slamming reports he bought La Lohan an engagement ring in August while cameras caught him shopping at Cartier. His actual purchase that day — a lighter.

Though his personal life may be having a rough patch, his Pink Taco restaurant chain is taking off. With one in Las Vegas and another in Scottsdale, AZ, Morton plans to expand the chain to at least six other locations, with one in Los Angeles opening in January 2007.

Hard Rock Cafe heir Harry Morton has left ex-girlfriend Lindsay Lohan’s publicists red faced after admitting he and the party girl have split just days after they denied break-up reports were true.

Morton and Lohan were said to have split after a fight at a club in Los Angeles last week and, despite publicists’ desperate efforts to kill the story over the weekend, Morton has now confirmed he’s no longer dating the actress/singer.

Speaking exclusively to US news show Extra, Morton has revealed, “We’re just sort of taking a little breather right now and slowing things down.”

The restaurateur admits the pressure he felt following speculation he’d bought the Mean Girls star an engagement ring helped him make his decision.

He adds, “A lot of people started saying we’re engaged and it put a lot of pressure on things. We need a little space… I’m a very private person. I’m sure she (Lohan) has dealt with it (publicity) for years but it puts a lot of pressure on me.”

LINDSAY Lohan hatched a devious plan to make her ex-boyfriend Harry Morton so jealous that he’d fly back into her arms and drive her nemesis Paris Hilton crazy at the same time – but so far, the strategy hasn’t worked.

On Friday, the day after Morton dumped Lohan and she mysteriously turned up at arch-rival Hilton’s house for a party, Lohan’s rep Leslie Sloane Zelnik chirped that Lohan and Morton were back together.

But it wasn’t so. The devious redhead was overheard calling Hilton’s ex-love Stavros Niarchos on Saturday to ask for help in getting her revenge. According to our earwitness, Lohan told Niarchos, “No one can know I got dumped . . . You will look like a total stud, and it will drive Paris crazy [if we hang out together].”

Niarchos, who fooled around with Hilton just last week, was amenable to the plan. And so the pair appeared Sunday at Dragonfly in L.A. “where they held hands and made out all night and then drove in separate cars back to [Lohan's] suite at the Chateau.”

Zelnik didn’t return calls.

But Morton hasn’t swallowed the bait. Spies say Morton, who is sober and does not like to party, broke it off with Lohan because, “She was just too much for him. He tried to calm her down and succeeded a little bit – but it was exhausting. That, and she was extremely jealous and would harass him with texts, e-mails and phone calls constantly.”

Meanwhile, the Chateau Marmont is finally getting rid of Lindsay for good. She’s taken her apartment in the ritzy Sierra Towers in L.A. off the market and plans to move into the condo she bought last year as an “investment opportunity,” but never inhabited, our source says.

The pad was up for grabs for a whopping $2.85 million but found no takers because “it was on the wrong side of the hill with no views,” according to our insider. “Lindsay will stay part-time at the Chateau for another month before moving out completely.”

As Page Six first reported, Lohan was living for over a year at the Marmont, which wanted to evict her for the disruption she caused by her late nights.

Lindsay Lohan and Harry Morton split up Thursday, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE – but now they seem to be speaking again.

“They are together now,” Lohan’s rep tells PEOPLE.

A source close to the actress adds: “They argue, they don’t argue.” At the moment, “They’re communicating. They’re hanging out. Whatever’s going to transpire there is going to transpire.”

The outlook for the couple was more dire on Thursday. “Harry broke up with Lindsay yesterday at Chateau Marmont after they had dinner on the courtyard patio,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Nothing happened at dinner, but shortly afterward, he broke up with her.”

Why the split? “She was too much drama,” says a source close to Harry. “Lindsay did cut down on the partying, but with her it’s all relative. Harry is sober. It wasn’t the partying that broke them up. Harry’s more low-key and not into the same stuff she’s into.”

However, the Lohan pal says, “No one ‘dumped’ anyone. You don’t dump people when you’re 20 and 25. You have a mature relationship, and you take a break and you see what happens. Everyone does that.”

Indeed, Lohan, 20, was spotted at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont on Thursday, running onto the patio where four of her friends were sitting – and weeping, a wad of tissues on one hand, her cell phone in the other.

“She ran in, sat with her group, put down her cell phone and cried to her pals,” an observer tells PEOPLE. “The group looked very concerned and listened intently to what she was saying.”

After the Chateau, Lohan went to Hyde Lounge, where she arrived around 12:30 a.m. and stayed until the hot spot closed at 2 a.m. She mingled with friends and didn’t appear to be distraught: “She was having a blast,” says one patron, “even with a broken hand.”

Lohan and Morton, 25, owner of the restaurant chain Pink Taco and son of former Hard Rock Cafe chain owner Peter Morton, started dating on July 2.

Their relationship started out promisingly: They spent a cozy Fourth of July week in Malibu lounging at Morton’s pad (where they blasted Led Zeppelin over the speakers), dining at Nobu, shopping at the Malibu Country Mart and going out with pals.

By mid-month, the lovebirds were nearly inseparable. Among their many outings: holding hands at the Prada party in Beverly Hills on July 13, hitting hot spot Les Deux with pal Nicole Richie on July 14 and celebrating David Spade’s birthday together on July 15.

“They get along great and have a lot in common,” a source told PEOPLE in July.

Morton has been credited with Lohan’s recently toned-down lifestyle – and helped her through more than one sticky situation: He was on the scene when she was briefly hospitalized on July 26 (her camp blamed dehydration and exhaustion) and subsequently missed work on her upcoming drama Georgia Rule.

He was also there for her when her Hermes handbag went missing at London’s Heathrow airport earlier this month after they attended the premiere of Lohan’s upcoming film Bobby at the Venice Film Festival.

Lindsay Lohan’s been sporting a new diamond ring, and although her mother insists it was just a “very sweet gift” from the star’s honey, Harry Morton, the buzz is that the two might be secretly married.

Lohan called her mother, Dina, on Sept. 2 and announced, “Mom, I’m getting married,” a “source close to Lindsay” told the upcoming issue of Star. “Lindsay explained that Harry gave her a gorgeous ring and that he asked her to marry him.”

The tab also says that “friends believe [the couple] could be married already!”

Another source, however, says there’s trouble in paradise. Lohan and Morton had a nasty spat on Sunday when he got furious at her for flirting with a DJ, according to the London Mirror.

The two went to a party at Clivedon House in London, but while Morton mingled, Lohan was “all over [DJ Sam Young] like a rash,” according to the paper.

Morton was upset with the “Mean Girls” star for “not paying him enough attention” but Lohan countered that Morton should stop “being so insecure.”

LINDSAY Lohan has a few trust issues when it comes to her man, Harry Morton. One source says, “She flips out if any other girl is around him.” Another Lohan- watcher adds, “I was at a small party, and she was there with him and like four other girls, and she was really nasty to me. I didn’t care – I was with my own boyfriend.” A third insider cackles, “When she is not with Harry she constantly texts, e- mails and calls him. She has to know what he’s doing every sec ond of every day. The other day, she was coming to meet him at the Ivy [in L.A.] and . . . his phone was blowing up with her say ing, ‘I’ll be there in four minutes,’ ‘I’ll be there in two minutes, get everyone ready!’ ” Meanwhile, Har ry’s dad, billionaire Peter Morton, who’s dating Linda Evangelista, is not a fan of his son’s newfound notoriety. During an inter view with W, Peter gets a copy of Page Six and reads “about Lohan’s latest escapade, a 3 a.m. visit to a West Holly wood tattoo parlor, ‘accompa nied by main squeeze Harry Mor ton, who got a cross tattoo on an unspecified part of his anatomy.’ ” W reports Peter “read Harry the riot act: ‘You’ve got to low-key it!’ ” A rep for Lohan said, “Peter and his daughter visited her on set for ‘Georgia Rule’ two weeks ago.”

Lindsay Lohan is set to become part of the Morton family empire if reports of her boyfriend Harry Morton buying an engagement ring are to be believed. The restaurateur was spotted buying an engagement ring at Cartier in Beverly Hills, California, and his aides have confirmed he did in fact buy something special there.

A spokeswoman for the Pink Taco boss says, “I can confirm that Harry was shopping in Cartier, but what he purchased I cannot confirm. If it was in fact a gift then that’s between him and whomever the gift is for.”

Lohan and Morton have been an item for four months and have been inseparable this summer. Morton is the son of Hard Rock Hotel chairman Peter Morton.
