Sacha Baron Cohen and fiancee Isla Fisher have been forced to postpone their wedding over religious issues, MailOnline has learned.

The Hollywood-based couple, who welcomed a daughter last year, originally planned to tie the knot later this summer.

But they have decided to delay the nuptials because Isla, 32, has yet to convert to the Ali G star’s faith of Judaism.

A source said: ‘Isla was supposed to spend her time after giving birth hard at work on her Torah studies, and that’s gone far slower than expected.

‘It’s very much frustrated her future in-laws, especially Sacha’s parents, who were really hoping for a wedding this summer.’

The source added: ‘Right now there’s no wedding date set because Isla hasn’t fully converted yet, and even though she’s working at it part-time, she’s far from being close to completing her studies.’

Isla, who has spent most of this summer filming her upcoming project Confessions Of A Shopaholic, is said to have a tense relationship with Sacha’s mother, Daniella.

The source said: ‘What made relations difficult between Isla and Sacha’s mother is that she really wanted Isla to spend more time with the baby and their family in England instead of being hasty and returning to work so quickly.

‘Now that Isla’s done shooting, she’s in the awkward position of making up for lost time.’

To this end, the Australian-born actress, who found fame in Home And Away in the Nineties, is spending increasing amounts of time with her in-laws in Britain, in an apparent effort to endear herself to them.

Meanwhile the notoriously reclusive Baron Cohen, 36, is patiently playing peacemaker between his wife and mother.

Instead of wedding preparations, he has channelled his energies into work, chalking up long hours on his new reality-based film Bruno, which has nearly completed filming and will be released worldwide next summer.

The source said: ‘Sacha is not as worried about the relationship between his parents and Isla as everyone else is because he’s extremely devoted to her and their child.

‘He also believes that putting too much pressure on Isla is only going to make the wedding happen later rather than sooner.

‘He is happy taking his time to get married the same way he was happy having a long engagement.

‘But in the meantime Isla’s had to endure a lot of awkward moments with Sacha’s mother, who just doesn’t seem to understand her future daughter-in-law’s drive to become a big star.’

or Isla’s part, the actress is said to be looking forward to becoming a Cohen.

The source said: ‘No matter what Sacha’s mother throws at her, Isla isn’t going to be scared away from the relationship or the family.

‘You really get the sense that her devotion to Sacha is total, even if she’s stalled a little bit on her Jewish studies. She loves sharing her life with this guy.’

A baby Borat is born: Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen have welcomed their first child, according to reports in Australia and Britain.

No further details were available. Reps for both stars had no comment.

Fisher’s pregnancy was first reported in June. The following month she said, “I haven’t got any plans to jump back into [work after the birth].”

Both Cohen, 36, and Fisher, 31, began their careers overseas. Cohen, who is best known for his controversial comedy, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, originally rose to fame on British TV as the wannabe rapper Ali G, and became familiar to American audiences in 2003, when HBO began airing his Da Ali G Show.

Fisher, who was raised in Australia, kicked off her acting career in the mid-’90s on the Aussie soap opera Home & Away, but is better known internationally as Vince Vaughn’s hyperactive love interest in Wedding Crashers.

Fisher’s former Home & Away costar, Melissa George, told PEOPLE this week that Fisher will make a wonderful mother. “She’s the kindest, most beautiful woman. Like extraordinary, this girl. And she’s got great humor, an amazing sort of temperament.”

As for the sense of humor the baby might have, George said, “It’ll be a riot. How could it not?”

Fisher told a British newspaper in 2005: “Sacha makes me laugh more than anyone,” but this year admitted there are perils to maintaining the relationship.

“Instead of ‘Hey, Honey, did you pick up the dry cleaning?,’ it was ‘Did you get beaten up? Are you getting sued? Is there a warrant out for your arrest?’ ” she said, referring to Cohen’s work on Borat.

Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen and his longtime girlfriend, Australian actress Isla Fisher, are expecting a baby this winter, a source close to the couple confirms.

The couple, who have been together for about five years, attended Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, with Fischer showing off her figure in a cream-colored dress – and often rubbing her belly.

Backstage, the couple smooched and greeted a steady stream of friends, one of whom one loudly exclaimed, “congratulations on the baby!” Cohen excitedly answered: “Thank you!”

Both Cohen, 35, and Fisher, 31, began their careers overseas. Cohen, who was born in England and educated at Cambridge, rose to fame in the late 1990s as the wannabe rapper Ali G on British television, and became familiar to U.S. audiences in 2003 when Da Ali G Show began airing on HBO. Sacha Baron Cohen’s fiancee Isla Fisher will go to bed with Borat, but refuses to sleep with gay Austrian fashion reporter Bruno.

The Wedding Crashers actress was prepared to put up with Cohen staying in character as the controversial Kazakhstani TV reporter while he shot his hit film, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

However, she is not prepared to afford him the same luxury when he starts work on his Bruno movie.

A source told the National Enquirer magazine: “Isla grudgingly endured months of living, and sleeping, with Borat when Sacha was making the movie as he had to stay in character while he was filming.

“But now he plans to make a Bruno movie she says she absolutely won’t let him stay in character 24 hours a day.

“She has issued him with an ultimatum no Bruno in the bedroom or no sex until the film is finished.”

After winning his Best Actor prize at the recent Golden Globe Awards, Cohen dedicated his triumph to Fisher because “she agreed to sleep with Borat for ten months”.
