Janet Jackson has been released from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, according to a hospital rep.

“Yesterday evening she was checked into the Royal Victoria Hospital and left a couple of hours later,” Rebecca Burns, the spokeswoman for the McGill University Health Centre, which operates the hospital, told PEOPLE

Jackson, 42, cancelled her show in Montreal on Monday and was taken to the hospital after she “got suddenly ill” during her sound check, according to a statement from W&W Public Relations.

Further details of the singer’s condition were not immediately available, and reps for Jackson did not return requests for additional comment.

Jackson kicked off her Rock Witchu tour promoting her latest album, Discipline, in Vancouver on Sept. 10.

Jackson has complained of exhaustion, a source close to boyfriend Jermaine Dupri tells PEOPLE. “A 42-year-old body can’t handle what a 22-year-old body can,” says the source. “I can tell you that she’s definitely tired. It was probably exhaustion. She is doing back-to-back, three-hour shows, and her body isn’t the same as it used to be.”

The same night that Jackson was rushed to the hospital, Dupri was spotted in New York City partying at Patron’s Music in Motion Tour featuring TI at Marquee. “If [Janet's condition] was more serious he would’ve rushed to her side,” added the source.

Jackson is due to perform in Boston Wednesday night.

A representative for Janet Jackson says the singer has been hospitalized after falling ill shortly before a concert.

According to statement released by W&W Public Relations, the singer canceled her concert in Montreal on Monday after she “got suddenly ill” during her sound check and had to be rushed to the hospital just before show time.

The statement says Jackson is being monitored at the hospital and hopes to reschedule the show. No further information was given about Jackson’s condition.

A phone call placed to W&W after hours went unanswered, and a representative did not immediately return an e-mail seeking more information.

Jackson, 42, is on a North American tour.

Jermaine Dupri had a little too much of a good time celebrating his 36th birthday. The other night, Dupri and his squeeze, Janet Jackson, went to Tenjune, where, spies say, they shared bottles of Jay-Z’s Ace of Spades Champagne and Patrón tequila with Ne-Yo, Busta Rhymes and Ice-T – until Dupri “vomited in Janet’s lap. Ms. Jackson bolted out of the scene and sped off in her chauffeured Maybach.” A rep for Jackson and Dupri didn’t return calls. A rep for Tenjune declined to comment. Meanwhile, we hear Dupri is under some stress at work. The head of urban music for Island/Def Jam put out his lady’s last album, “Discipline,” which flopped. Our insider said, “[IDJ head] L.A. Reid had wanted to make changes to the album, make it fresher with some newer artists added in, but Janet said no – and Jermaine backed her up. He looks silly right now.”

Janet Jackson might feel “allergic to marriage,” but the pop star is ready to have a baby, says longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri.

“Yeah, soon,” Dupri told PEOPLE Sunday at a dinner party hosted by New Era and Belvedere Vodka at West Hollywood’s STK restaurant. “Right after the tour.” (Jackson, 42, recently announced she’ll be on the road this fall.)

The producer – who has a daughter, Shaniah, from a previous relationship – is so excited to start a family with Jackson, he doesn’t even care if it’s a boy or a girl.

“It really doesn’t matter,” he explained at the even honoring rapper Nelly. “Janet would be a great mom. She was around so many brothers and sisters all her life, so she’s got to know what that is [like]. And her mom is a great mother.”

According to Dupri, Jackson is also a great companion. “The greatest thing in life is just to have a friend,” he said. “When I have problems in life, I share them with her. When she has a problem, she comes to me.”

Janet Jackson is getting into the reality TV business, developing a music competition with 25/7 Prods. for MTV.

Untitled project, which has already started casting, will feature Jackson as she mentors a group of aspiring singers and dancers. Project will be shot in the coming months as Jackson prepares for her world tour, which launches on Sept. 10.

“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher,” said exec producer Dave Broome. “And we’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find it from. We’ll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.”

Show will also take place in various street locales, rather than on a studio soundstage. Producers are still ironing out the prize – but it could potentially relate to Jackson’s tour.

Deal also reps the latest chapter in the recent turbulent relationship between the channel and Jackson. MTV produced the infamous Super Bowl halftime show that featured Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction.” After that, fans accused MTV of blackballing the singer from the channel.

But Jackson has been seen more often on MTV lately, having appeared on TRL to promote her latest CD in February. She also starred in a series of shorts spoofing MTV series like “The Real World” as part of MTV’s “52 Artists/52 Weeks Total MTV Takeover.”

Broome’s credits include “The Biggest Loser,” “The Radio Music Awards” and NBC’s Tsunami benefit.

Gil Duldulao and Jackson are behind the show’s concept; Jackson, Duldulao, Broome, Kenneth Crear and Johnny Wright are all exec producers.

Janet Jackson is taking it easy following her bout with the flu. The pop star, 41, who paid a visit to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. Monday night after falling ill, has decided to cancel an upcoming Saturday Night Live appearance originally scheduled for Saturday, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

“The main prescription to get over this flu is rest – and that’s what she has to do,” her rep says. No replacement has been announced yet.

JANET JACKSON is under immense pressure from her mother to get married and start a family with boyfriend JERMAINE DUPRI, because she wants to be a grandma again. The 41-year-old recently confessed her doctor is encouraging her to freeze her eggs to protect her chances of getting pregnant – and she reveals her mother is urging her to listen to her biological clock too. Jackson says. “My mother and I have had a couple of conversations. “She says, ‘You’re getting older now. Do you think you might want to have a couple of children instead of just your dogs.’ “I’ll have kids someday. It’ll happen. I’m still young.”
