PLENTY of folks think Jeremy Piven is lying about his supposed mercury poisoning, but Fisher Stevens isn’t one of them. “I believe him. His numbers are off the charts,” Stevens, who suffered from mercury poisoning this year, told Page Six. Stevens says that while he was producing his upcoming Sundance entry, “The Cove,” a documentary about the slaughter of mercury-loaded dolphins in the Far East, he ate fish four or five times a week. “I started feeling really sluggish and had no energy. It turns out the larger the fish, the higher the levels. I only eat small fish now.” The movie’s director, Louie Psihoyos, was also poisoned.

ET has exclusive new details about the illness that caused Jeremy Piven to withdraw from his hit Broadway show, ‘Speed-the-Plow.’

Dr. Carlon Colker, a doctor who has been treating the SAG award nominee and Emmy award-winner, tells ET that Jeremy is suffering from extreme mercury toxicity. He informs us that a test revealed that Jeremy had the highest level of mercury that he has ever seen, which amounts to six times a healthy amount of mercury, in his system.

The doctor says that Jeremy is disappointed that members of the production staff of ‘Speed-the-Plow’ and other members of the entertainment community have not rallied behind him during this health crisis.

Colker tells ET that a major symptom of mercury poisoning is extreme fatigue. In addition, Jeremy began experiencing neuro-muscular dysfunction late last week, which led to extreme difficulty in lifting his arms and legs. Then, this past Sunday, he began feeling dizzy. Now, the doctors have ordered enforced rest. Jeremy has spent three days in the hospital recently, and the doctor tells us exclusively that the actor is no longer in New York.

Colker tells ET that Jeremy has been an avid sushi eater for many years, regularly eating sushi twice in one day. He notes that Jeremy has also taken certain Chinese herbs, and that, in combination with the frequent sushi consumption, could have led to these elevated mercury levels.

ET reported earlier today that Jeremy had left “Speed-the-Plow” and last night, his “Entourage” co-star Kevin Connolly talked to ET about his health.

So what was Jeremy Piven doing at Britney Spears’ circus-themed 27th birthday party Tuesday night?

Even he doesn’t know.

“I’m really embarrassed — I didn’t know it was Britney’s birthday party! I think I was the one guy who didn’t know!” he told Usmagazine.com Wednesday at a party for Common’s Capsule Line with Software by Microsoft.

Piven told Us he went to the club “to say hello to someone” when he noticed the club had been transformed into a circus tent, complete jugglers and even a man on stilts.

“I was confused!” said the Entourage star, who finally figured out the reason for all the commotion.

So did he get to wish Spears a happy birthday?

“I did not speak to the birthday girl,” Piven told Us. “I fortunately have nothing to report.”

Awards ceremonies can be boring, but Jeremy Piven and his “Entourage” wife, Perry Reeves, know how to keep things interesting. During the Emmy Awards ceremony in LA, our source spotted Mr. and Mrs. Ari Gold sipping from a concealed bottle of what was seemingly booze. “Jeremy Piven had a bottle wrapped in a napkin, hiding whatever it was,” said our spy – who saw him and Reeves “taking swigs from it throughout the entire show.”

DON’T ever expect to see “Entourage” star Jeremy Piven back at “Fashion Rocks,” the Condé Nast-sponsored concert that celebrates Fashion Week. Last year, production insiders say Piven, who hosted the show, was a “nightmare,” insisting on a separate green room and rewriting the script up until the last minute. “And it wasn’t even funny,” the source said. This year, Fashion Rocks decided to go with “a more trustworthy and mature host, Denis Leary, who also has a background in stand-up and could make the necessary transitions onstage,” we’re told. The show – featuring Beyoncé, the Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake – will tape Friday and air on CBS Sept. 9. A rep for Piven said, “Not true. He had his own room, just like everyone else, and came in a week early to work on the script as expected.”

The “Entourage” actor and the pint-size “Blade” star were both at the “Public Enemies” wrap party at Bon V lounge in Chicago the other night. “They had a bit of a tiff,” said our spy. “Dorff was p – - – ed because it was ‘his’ wrap party and he thought Piven crashed it.” Dorff has a role in “Public Enemies” and Piven was in Chicago, his hometown, for a fund-raiser. In 2006, we reported the two had a screaming match at Bungalow 8 after Dorff cut in front of Piven in the bathroom line and Piven called him a “has-been.” Piven’s rep confirmed they were both at the party, but said they “did not interact.”

Piven hit the club after leaving a party for Victoria’s Secret fragrance Heavenly Kiss at Beso. Pink split from her husband, Motocross racer Carey Hart, in February. “Pink and Jer emy were all over each other and dancing really close,” said a witness. A rep for Pink con firmed she was at the Green Door, but said, “She was not with Jeremy Piven, dancing or otherwise.” Piven’s rep said, “He was there but didn’t hang out with Pink. Jeremy says she is a friend, a good woman.”

JEREMY Piven doesn’t seem to know he has a serious girlfriend. The “Entourage” star, who’s suppos edly in love with model Lillian Grant, continues to hit on women at every party he goes to in New York. The Microsoft bash at the Twelve21 club Monday was no exception. “He collected a lot of numbers,” said a source. “Later that night, he was texting two different models he picked up separately, telling each, ‘Come meet me.’ He had no clue they knew each other and were laughing about the identical messages.” Piven, who is staying at the Mercer Hotel for two months, told us, “It was my hope that in texting both ladies, I would make it onto Page Six, so everybody wins.”
