Jenny McCarthy worried about finding a good man after her son, Evan, was diagnosed with autism two years ago. Then Jim Carrey came along. “Beyond doubt it was written in the stars that Jim and Evan were a pair,” the 34-year-old actress tells People magazine in its Oct. 1 issue.

“He’s actually helped Evan get past some obstacles I couldn’t. I sometimes call him the autism whisperer. He speaks a language Evan understands, and Evan feels safe with him.”

McCarthy and Carrey, 45, went public with their romance last year. Though she’s in love, McCarthy has no plans to marry the twice-divorced actor.

“There will be no certificate,” she says. “It goes far deeper than that. Jim came into our life with an open heart and open arms. He’s learned a lot about autism. He listens. The power of listening. It can move mountains.”

McCarthy and film director John Asher filed for divorce in August 2005, after six years of marriage. Earlier that year, Evan, now 5, was diagnosed with autism.

McCarthy, who starred on MTV’s “Singled Out,” details Evan’s progress in her new book, “Louder Than Words: A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism.”

She says Carrey was curious about Evan – in a good way. But she was nervous about introducing them.

“He was intrigued,” she says. “He asked questions. Still, it took me about a few months to bring Evan over.”

Jim Carrey has made a straight-to-YouTube video. And it’s not funny at all.

The 45-year-old actor-comedian — in rare serious mode — appears in a new public service announcement on behalf of the Human Rights Action Center and the U.S. Campaign for Burma. The goal: To free Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been confined by the Burmese government for 11 of the last 17 years.

“Even though she’s compared to a modern-day Gandhi or Nelson Mandela, most people in America still don’t know about Aung San,” Carrey says in the filmed message, posted Tuesday on YouTube.

“And let’s face it: the name’s a little difficult to remember. Here’s how I did it: Aung San sounds a lot like `unsung,’ as in unsung hero. Aung San Suu Kyi is truly an unsung hero.”

Suu Kyi, who is under long-term house arrest in the city of Yangon, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for her nonviolent efforts to bring down the oppressive military regime that rules over the Southeast Asian country.

The regime, led by General Than Shwe, has destroyed more than 3,000 villages in eastern Burma — forcing more than a 1.5 million people to leave their homes — and recruited more child soldiers than any other country in the world, Carrey says in his spot.

“People around the world need to come to her aid, just as they supported Mandela when he was locked up,” said Jeremy Woodrum, co-founder of the U.S. Campaign for Burma, in a statement Tuesday.

“This announcement contributes to an upsurge in activism around Aung San Suu Kyi in the United States and throughout the world.”

Jim Carrey says he and his lady love, Jenny McCarthy, aren’t planning to get married. “No, we’re never getting married, but we’re never getting divorced, which is fantastic,” the 45-year-old actor says on Tuesday’s edition of “Access Hollywood.”

Will he get her a ring at least?

“I bought her a Chloe purse,” he jokes. “Isn’t that good enough?”

Carrey and McCarthy, 34, went public with their romance last year. “She’s just a wonderful lady and much deeper than she’s ever received credit for, and I’m very excited about her future,” he says of the former Playboy playmate, who got her big break in the mid-`90s as a co-host on MTV’s “Singled Out.”

Carrey, who was previously married to actress Lauren Holly, has a 19-year-old daughter, Jane, with his first wife, Melissa Womer. McCarthy and film director John Asher filed for divorce in August 2005, after six years of marriage. They have a 4-year-old son, Evan.

When asked whether their relationship would have worked years ago, Carrey says, “No, not at all. I went through a lot of relationships that I believe were meant to define what I don’t want in another person and in myself, and it refocused me on what I do want.”

Carrey stars in the New Line drama “The Number 23,” slated for release Feb. 23. He rose to fame in the TV show “In Living Color” and the film comedies “Ace Ventura” and “The Mask,” but has since dabbled in more serious stuff such as 2004′s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

McCarthy has appeared in the films “John Tucker Must Die” and “Scary Movie 3,” and starred in the short-lived 2005 UPN sitcom, “The Bad Girl’s Guide.” Her books about pregnancy and motherhood, “Belly Laughs” and “Baby Laughs,” were on the New York Times best-seller list.

Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy are pulling out all the stops for a star-studded Christmas party in Los Angeles.
