Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes stealthily slipped out after the New York premiere of Cruise’s action extravaganza “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” at the Ziegfeld on Monday night. Their mission was meatballs, and the pair headed to the Meatball Shop, where stunned fans lined up outside the joint’s Greenwich Avenue location for a look.

They then swung by MoMA’s “Mission: Impossible” after-party with their own security detail, and Cruise alternately posed for photos with swarms of fans and huddled with director Brad Bird and CAA agent Kevin Huvane. Producer J.J. Abrams said he had a good reason to sit through the screening, even though his movie had already premiered in Tokyo, Seoul, Mumbai, Dubai, Moscow, Madrid, Munich, Paris and London.

“It’s the first time my wife has seen the finished cut,” Abrams explained. The screening started more than an hour late because Cruise was held up taping an interview a few blocks away for “The Late Show With David Letterman,” prompting one impatient film insider to huff, “Movie: impossible!” But the wait only seemed to pump expectations. “The good news is it was well worth the wait to see Tom hanging 140 stories from the side of a glass building,” the satisfied guest said afterward.

Also at the premiere were Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway, Viacom honcho Philippe Dauman, Darren Aronofsky and Letterman’s exec-producer Rob Burnett. Looking stunning in a sparkly dress, co-star Paula Patton played it cool by sitting on a couch while the party at MoMA became a swirling vortex around Cruise, standing the entire time. But Patton was apparently saving her energy: She was later spotted dancing till 2 a.m. at Avenue with her crooner husband Robin Thicke, father-in-law Alan and Queen Latifah.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (is that a bump I see? hummm)

She’s one of the most trendsetting toddlers the world has ever seen.

Now little Suri Cruise seems to be inspiring those closer to home.

Suri and mum Katie Holmes were spotted with matching messy hairstyles in Los Angeles yesterday.

In the past, Katie has been accused of having a hairstyle exactly like her Hollywood husband Tom Cruise; short, cropped and boyish.

But the Dawson’s Creek star now looks more like her three-year-old daughter, with a longer, less severe, look.

Katie, 30, was seen collecting the cute Ms Cruise from a ballet class in LA.

Clutching her daughter, dressed in a bold floral print dress, Katie was also seen holding a tiny pair of ballet shoes.

Perhaps Suri was keen to take up ballet after seeing The Nutcracker in December last year?

The toddler went backstage after the performance in New York and seemed to be transfixed by the prima ballerinas in their tutus and professional dance shoes.

But dance lessons aren’t the only classes Suri is having.

The National Enquirer said last month that Tom is spending $1million on French, Spanish, ballet, tap, modern dance, gymnastics and football lessons for the tot.

And she hasn’t even started school yet!

She may not look like she eats very much, but Katie Holmes has revealed she likes nothing more than tucking into her husband’s signature dish – creamy carbonara pasta.

Katie opens up about life as Mrs Tom Cruise in a special 70th anniversary edition of U.S. Glamour magazine, which features her on three different covers.

‘I don’t really cook that much – eventually I will,’ said Katie. ‘I do make cupcakes. And [Tom] makes his pasta carbonara for me.

‘He knows exactly how to do it: a pinch of this, a pinch of that. He has a recipe, but he also kind of [improvises] by himself. You have to do the egg at a certain time. He did it once when we were camping.’

With her prominent collar bones and slim figure Katie certainly doesn’t look like she enjoys the creamy dish too often.

As well as a hectic workload, she is reportedly also undergoing a punishing detox diet, apparently as a prelude to having a second child.

The regime reportedly left her lethargic and unable to attend this month’s Oscars ceremony.

The slim actress features on three front covers for the magazine. In one she smiles over her shoulder in a cheeky pose, while in the other two she adopts a girl-next-door persona, facing the camera.

The 30-year-old says she grew up knowing she wanted to marry 16-years-older Tom.

‘When Top Gun came out, my sisters were like, “Oh, my God, Top Gun! Tom Cruise!” And I very confidently said, “I’m going to marry him one day.” It wasn’t like, How do I get to Tom Cruise? It was just: I think I’m going to marry him. Why not? He’ll like me. I’m fun.’

Katie claims she never doubted her prediction would come true.

‘I did everything I could to get here, and when I met Tom, I knew in an instant that we were going to be together, that we were going to get married.’

And Katie says her three-year-old daughter Suri is already aware of her parents’ fame.

‘If Tom or I are on TV, we’ll watch it. And when we were in New York, we would see a lot of Valkyrie posters. She goes, “Look! There’s Valkyrie movie!”‘

Spies spotted the 30-year-old actress and her husband Tom Cruise dining with actor John Lithgow and his wife at West Hollywood’s popular Italian restaurant Il Sole on Saturday evening, and although Cruise was overtly cheerful we’re told Holmes was super skinny and seemed miserable.

“Katie and Tom ordered a meal to share but Katie hardly ate a thing and just picked at her food,” said an insider. “She barely said a single word and looked very uncomfortable. People couldn’t stop whispering about how gaunt she looked.”

Prior to their dinner meeting, security for the high-profile pair insisted on doing a sweep of the restaurant, and even though they requested a high-chair, Cruise and Holmes showed up sans Suri but instead with Cruise’s adopted son, Conner. After the quick meal, the “Top Gun” star did his usual polite ritual of stopping by the kitchen to shake hands with the chef and kitchen crew before the three scurried into their chauffeured SUV with curtained windows.

According to an inside source, Katie’s return to being itty bitty is a sign of stress both in her personal and professional life.

“She is constantly flying back and forth between New York and Los Angeles — sometimes all in one day — and gets really run-down trying to keep everyone happy,” said our insider, adding that hubby Tom is always concerned about the health of his beloved and they are still very happily married despite numerous reports to the contrary. The rumor mill is even churning that the two are prepping to conceive baby number two in the very near future. Stay tuned.

If Tom Cruise has his way, Suri could have a lot of little brothers and sisters.

“I want 10 children. I love kids,” the Valkyrie star says in an interview with UK’s The Sun.

Cruise, 46, is also dad to Connor, 13, and Isabella, 16, his adopted children with ex Nicole Kidman.

“I feel really fortunate to have the teenagers and a two and a half-year-old. It’s a great dynamic,” he says.

So how does Holmes — who just celebrated her 30th birthday — feel about giving birth to a brood that could rival Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s?

“If I’m worried about anything, it’s if she [Katie] can keep up with me,” Cruise jokes. “I’m very active…jumping on couches and whatnot.”

Cruise adds that he’s “a great parent.

“I want to be with my kids, and they get to do all the stuff that I wanted to do when I was growing up,” he says. “My own father wasn’t there much for me and I want to be a different dad to my kids. My family is the most important thing in my life.”

(And despite his split from Kidman, he says: “Nic and I are very committed and successful in sharing the parenting.”)

In addition to raising Suri, whom he calls “so charming, so beautiful…just great,” Cruise says he’s teaching Connor how to motorbike.

“I go to the children’s groups like other daddies,” Cruise says. “At first people look at me like, ‘My God, it’s him!’ and they treat me a little differently.

“But then they realize I’m just a father with my kids,” Cruise adds. “It’s up to me to make everybody else feel okay about the fact that I’m there, and then everything just goes on.”

But when not spending time with his children, Cruise turns his focus to his wife of two years, whom he calls “a very strong, gracious woman and a great comedian.”

“I like doing romantic things, such as bringing flowers and surprising her with things,” Cruise says. “I love candlelit evenings with nice music.

“Married life is very good, very lovely,” he adds. “I feel lucky to have Kate as my wife. She’s an extraordinary woman. She is funny and smart and she likes the same things that I do.”

Katie Holmes spent her 30th birthday performing in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons – but her big day did not go unnoticed. As the curtain fell Thursday, the cast and crew presented her with a specially-made birthday cake, a surprise orchestrated by none other than Tom Cruise.

Addressing the audience, Holmes’s costar John Lithgow announced, “Tom Cruise, our good friend, devoted fan to the show, doting husband of Katie, could not be here tonight. He’s heartsick that he couldn’t be here … but he wanted to make his presence felt. So, he’s joining us, inviting all of you, to celebrate Katie’s birthday.”

And with that, crewmembers wheeled out a five-tiered, white-frosted, circular birthday cake as the crowd cheered and applauded.

“I planned it so that when she comes out for the standing ovation, John [would] get the whole audience to wish her a happy birthday,” Cruise – who was in Los Angeles to premiere his new film, Valkyrie – told PEOPLE, just as the surprise was sprung.

“It’s going to be great,” he said, adding that they’d already had a private celebration the night before. (“That was the big one,” he noted.)

Suri Helped, Too
A genuinely surprised Holmes, who had been celebrating her birthday all week long, brought her 2-year-old daughter Suri on to the stage as the cast – including Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson – encouraged the entire audience to sing “Happy Birthday.” Together, the mother-daughter duo blew out the candles.

Speaking softly, Holmes graciously thanked the audience, saying, “Thank you for coming out to the show tonight. It was a real pleasure.”

The cast and crew then disappeared offstage, where they enjoyed dessert and champagne, courtesy of Cruise.

Meanwhile, across the country, the Top Gun was waiting anxiously to hear how his elaborate plan played out.

“I’m waiting to talk to her now,” he said, “to see her reaction.”

According to a neighbor, Cruise and Holmes are buying up lofts in a 12-story building slightly south of 14th Street. “Tom and Katie now keep five units in the building. They turned one into [2-year-old daughter] Suri’s playroom. One they use for a gym, and two apartments are for staff,” said our source. Cruise bought a 10th-floor unit in 1985 and has held onto the space since. “In the past couple of months they’ve bought up all these other apartments,” our source said. “They’re all separate and on different floors. Tom is seen coming in and out all the time, and he’s really friendly to everyone he meets. But Katie just kind of keeps her head down. Everyone in the neighborhood is buzzing about it.” A rep for Cruise denies the couple is buying up units in that building.
