Katie Holmes and hubby Tom Cruise can count on seeing some familiar mustachioed faces when “All My Sons,” in which Holmes stars, opens on Broadway Thursday.

The anti-Scientology critics of the group Anonymous are gearing up for another protest against the couple’s controversial faith outside the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Last month the group, whose members often don “V for Vendetta” masks with mustaches, heralded the play’s first preview by carrying signs that read “Scientology Kills” and “Free Katie, keep Tom.”

Count on Scientologists being there, too. One Anonymous member claims that last time, church members taunted the picketers by ranting, “I need Prozac” (Scientology opposes psychotropic medication) and “Let’s break all the windows at the Org,” (the Scientology headquarters on W. 46th). The Anonymous source says Scientologists later showed up at his house with a legal letter ordering him to “cease and desist.”

Anonymous is also hatching a global Halloween-themed protest on Oct. 18. Billed in L.A. as “The Nightmare on L. Ron Hubbard Way” (the street named for Scientology’s founder), the demo will “show the stark contrast between reality and the fiction sold to Hubbard’s followers,” according to an announcement. Protesters in New York are due to meet at Bryant Park at 11 a.m. They’re dressing as zombies to expose Scientology’s alleged “brainwashing” practices.

Church spokeswoman Karin Pouw brands Anonymous as a “terrorist group” that “has fueled religious hatred and intolerance … issued death threats … threatened to destroy Churches of Scientology by detonating bombs … and mailed envelopes containing fake anthrax to 25 churches.”
Anonymous lawyer Graham Berry, however, argues that “to my knowledge, the FBI has found no connection between Anonymous and these so-called threats. Scientology has a history of inventing threats as part of its campaign of intimidation.”

One Scientology critic who doesn’t feel persecuted is Bill Maher. In his new movie, “Religulous,” the comic dons ragged clothes and stands at Speakers’ Corner in London – blathering about the victims of an evil intergalactic emperor, without mentioning he’s merely regurgitating Scientology’s “secret” teachings.

“Scientology is newer and it is crazy,” Maher tells us. “But the teachings of Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, wouldn’t be that much crazier than Scientology if you ranted them on the street corner.” Maher figures he has probably blown his chance to work with Cruise and fellow Scientologist John Travolta, but concedes, “I don’t think it was in the cards anyway.”

As Dawson’s Creek couple Joey and Pacey they were inseparable, with an onscreen love that spilled over into real life.

But while Katie Holmes now lives an A list lifestyle with superstar husband Tom Cruise in Los Angeles her first love Joshua Jackson has a quieter time with his actress girlfriend Diane Kruger in New York.

The two had lost touch, until Jackson popped in to see the actress with a big bunch of flowers, as she rehearsed for her Broadway debut All My Sons this week.

According to reports in Grazia magazine he had become concerned after seeing recent photographs of the working mother looking gaunt and tired, with black circles under her eyes.

‘Katie has been looking skinny and depressed and, like any concerned friend, rather than do nothing Joshua wanted to check everything was OK,’ the source told the magazine. ‘They haven’t spoken in a while and, naturally, he was worried.

‘So he just decided to drop by. It was really sweet, he just turned up unexpectedly with a bunch of flowers and said: ‘Hello stranger.’ Katie was shocked, but so happy to see him. It was a wonderful surprise. She gave him such a big hug.’

The source added that Jackson wanted to reassure the 29-year-old that she still had friends of her own age and outside of Scientology, the religion that she joined after falling in love with Cruise.

The source continued: ‘Joshua made it clear she wasn’t alone. He’s not out to cause trouble. Her life is truly bizarre now, but having some friends supporting her who have nothing to do with her LA set-up could make all the difference.

‘Josh would love to see Katie as the carefree and relaxed woman he once knew.’

Because of her acting commitments Katie and daughter Suri have been living in New York while Tom has continued to live in Los Angeles. The family have made a huge effort to keep in close contact, frequently flying across country to spend time together.

Katie dated Jackson for just over a year before splitting in 1998.

She later told Rolling Stone magazine: ‘I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always.’

But the two had barely been in touch since they worked on the show five years ago.

In an interview with USweekly.com Jackson recently confessed it was hard keeping in touch with his old friends.

He said: ‘I mean I talk to Michelle Williams every once in a while. I talk to Busy Philipps every once in a while.’

Then, when quizzed over whether he was going to see Katie on stage ,Jackson, who is currently appearing in Lost creator JJ Abram’s new project Fringe, said: ‘Of course, of course.’

Now it appears the two could start seeing more of each other. Jackson has apparently extended a dinner invitation to Katie and her 46-year-old husband.

Tim Gunn is never shy about his opinions on Project Runway — calling a dress a “pterodactyl out of a gay Jurassic Park” isn’t exactly holding back. And when PEOPLE talked to the debonair fashion expert at the Tide and Downy Total Care Launch Party, he expressed his disapproval of Katie Holmes’s recent penchant for fall’s new baggy jeans. “I have to say, Katie Holmes has become so much more sophisticated in so many ways, but I think she’s in a dip right now. I can’t explain it.” Gunn actually sees the adaptation of the new look as a move back towards her younger look, saying “She ascended from this tomboyish waif look to an incredible sexy sophisticate. We realize how much style she’s capable of. I don’t get it.” But for those of us who are digging Katie’s baggy look (also spotted on Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston), Gunn does give us hope. “With the right shape, it can work very well.”

If Katie Holmes had things her way, she’d walk to work like many a regular New Yorker. While plenty of photos of Holmes strolling with coffee in hand suggest that the actress hoofs it to work, a source told us she was actually being snapped on the way to her chauffeured car, parked a block from her home. But Holmes’ rep insists that before aggressive lensmen caught on to her route, she liked walking to rehearsal for “All My Sons” at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, occasionally on the arm of husband Tom Cruise.

One needs to look no further than the successes of “A Chorus Line” and “Spamalot” for proof that celebrities sell Broadway tickets, but in the case of “All My Sons,” that rule might not necessarily apply.

Ticket sales for the show, which stars Katie Holmes and Patrick Wilson, are thus far “definitely off from what the production hoped,” according to a source close to “Sons.” It’s hard to know what exactly is to blame.

“You can’t say it’s the economy,” says the source, “because there are shows, like ‘Mamma Mia’ that are selling out.” One possibility bandied about is that audiences are too nostalgic for Holmes’ “Dawson’s Creek” persona to clamor for tickets. “It’s not that Katie’s bad in the part. She’s good enough. The producers are just getting the feeling people still want to view Katie as sweet little Joey Potter.”

That said, Jackie Green, a publicist for “All My Sons,” says that chatter about tepid ticket sales and rumors of a shorter-than-expected run are entirely untrue. “That information is totally false. There is a healthy advance for the show, and there is no chance of the run being shortened,” says Green. “Sons” opens Oct. 16 and runs through Jan. 11.
