For quirky Katy Perry, jumping out of a cake is just too predicable.

Instead, the singer decided to dive into a giant dessert while performing at MTV’s Latin America Awards in Guadalajara, Mexico.

However, her spectacular stunt didn’t exactly go according to plan – just moments later the star took a rather dramatic tumble after slipping over on the icing.

The I Kissed A Girl singer attempted to grab hold of one of her band mates on her way down, however her efforts were in vain and she crashed to earth in a breath-taking fashion.

Katy took the fall in her stride, and did her best to laugh off the public embarrassment.

No doubt she’ll scratch the stunt from her repertoire as she steps in as host at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards next month.

he 23-year-old old Californian musician is nominated in two categories at this year’s event in Liverpool on November 6.

They are best new act and most addictive track.

It is the first time that the singer has acted as host at an awards ceremony.

Perry said: ‘To follow in the footsteps of previous hosts Christina Aguilera, Tom Jones, P Diddy and Snoop Dogg at this prestigious event is an incredible honour – do they know what they are getting into?

‘I just hope that I don’t spill my cocktail!’

Or fall over.

POP star Katy Perry will not be opening the VMAs this year, and she’s not happy she’ll have to wait to perform. Our source overheard Perry at Marix Mexican restaurant in LA the other night “complaining that she wasn’t asked to open at the VMAs because her song ['I Kissed a Girl'] is too provocative.” Perry is nominated for multiple awards at the MTV event on Sun day, and Blender Editor-in-Chief Joe Levy is throwing her a bash at Bardot in LA the night be fore. Perry’s rep confirmed she’s performing at the show and said she’s fine with not opening . . . Our source “overheard incorrectly,” he said.

Miley Cyrus says there’s no way she’s going to be locking lips with Katy Perry at this Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards.

The 23-year-old “I Kissed a Girl” hitmaker recently said in an interview that she was hoping to snag a same-sex smooch onstage with the 15-year-old Cyrus in the spirit of the infamous Madonna-Britney Spears kiss.

“No thanks,” the Hannah Montana star told me yesterday with a laugh. “She sang on my record. So I think she’s kind of getting back at me, because she was doing harmonies and backgrounds.”

Meow!

Cyrus has been on a nonstop promotional campaign to support her new hit album, Breakout, and her upcoming gig as the host of Teen Choice.
Will she ever slow down?

Probably not, but she says she’d love to eventually take a break from Hollywood to go to college.

“I was online the other day looking at colleges,” Cyrus said. “I want to go in London. I’d like to do fashion and then photography.”

But she’s still got time to think about higher education. She doesn’t even turn 16 until November.

“I’m into just kind of chillin’,” Cyrus said about her upcoming birthday. “I’m into having just a good ol’ pool party or, like, [going to] the beach with a couple of friends. I don’t want to feel like I have to entertain the whole time.”

That’s not the only big event in November. Her animated movie with John Travolta, Bolt, hits theaters on Thanksgiving. Will she and Mr. Travolta sing together on the soundtrack? “I would like that,” Cyrus cooed. “I mean I think that would be so cool. Oh my gosh!”

Another legend I had to ask about was one of my idols, Dolly Parton. The country music icon has appeared on Hannah Montana as Hannah’s Aunt Dolly.
“I will tell you,” Cyrus said, “Dolly is like the nicest person ever. On our set, from people that clean our dressing rooms at night to the top producers, she gave them hats and signed every one of them. It was like 500 hats!”

As much success as Cyrus has had and as much as she loves what she does, she’s actually discouraging her 13-year-old brother from getting into show business…well, at least for now.

“He’s really talented, really good at the drums,” Cyrus said. “But he’s, like, 13. So, you know, he’s not ready for it yet. He’s like, ‘I don’t want to start as young as you did in the business.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I agree.’ I think he should, like, finish high school and stuff.”

Sounds like good advice from a showbiz veteran.

Katy Perry sings the summer’s sexiest song “I Kissed a Girl.”

So who’s her dream same sex smooch?

“Miley Cyrus!” she says in the latest issue of Steppin’ Out magazine. “She’s the lucky girl. It’s cool to hear through the grapevine that Miley Cyrus has my song as her ring tone.”

See what a body language expert had to say about these summer kisses.

Perry, 23, will attend August’s Teen Choice Awards, which Cyrus, 15, is hosting.

“Maybe we’ll have another Britney-Madonna moment on stage,” Perry joked. “How hilarious would that be? Although I don’t think it would help her career. However, it would definitely help mine!”

Perry — who recently defended beau, Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy, after he was arrested for assault — also cleared up rumors about her promise ring.

“I’m definitely not a virgin!” she said. “[People] think the promise ring means no sex! No, the promise ring is just a promise that he’ll get me another ring. A better ring!

“Seriously, it’s not one of those ‘no sex’ promise rings,” she added. “That kind of went out the window when I was 17 years old.”

“I Kissed a Girl” singer Katy Perry is defending her beau, Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy, who was arrested last week for third-degree assault after allegedly striking an audience member in the head with his mike.

“There are definitely two sides to every story and you always have to take [that] into account,” Perry, 23, told Usmagazine.com at the taping of F’N MTV in Hollywood Thursday.

“He always learns from everything and we all learn from everything so I’m a ‘stand by your man’ type-of-girl,” she added.

Rolling Stone reported that McCoy acted in response to the audience member calling him a “f—ing ignorant n—er.”

Perry raved about McCoy, who recently gave her a ring as “a token of
his commitment and affection,” she said.

“[The ring is] a nice way for him to say I love you,” she explained.

The couple are on the Warp Tour together all summer.

“We have fun,” Perry told Us. “We have the same personality – very humorous. We love stupid clothes, and we’re so much alike. It’s not important for us to go to a club and be a celebrity couple. We just chill. We listen to music.”
