THE hype over Lauren Conrad’s line at Bloomingdale’s seems to have died down. After her appearance at the store last month, Bloomie’s vice chairman Frank Doroff told Women’s Wear Daily, “The sell-throughs have been fantastic,” calling the cheesy, self-titled line, “the best-selling celebrity line we have.” But a shopper recently browsing the racks at the 59th Street flagship told us, “The racks of Lauren’s line were over stuffed with clothes.” A fashion insider confirmed to Page Six, “Her line is not selling.” Conrad is up against Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. line, which has been around five years, and Mary-Kate Olsen’s Elizabeth & James, which has four windows at Bloomingdale’s. We also hear Kitson in LA “has 12 bins of Lauren Conrad clothing sitting in the warehouse” which the store couldn’t sell “even after a buy-one, get-one-free offer.” Conrad’s rep blames the overstock on a complete sell-out of the line and re-ordering of merchandise. Bloomingdale’s had no comment.

Hills star Heidi Montag was pleased to hear former BFF Lauren Conrad say she misses her on a recent episode of the MTV hit.

“I was glad to hear it… I thought it was really sweet,” Montag told Extra. “That really brought a big smile to my face.”

The former roommates haven’t been on speaking terms since Montag moved in with Spencer Pratt. Their feud escalated after Conrad accused Pratt and Montag of spreading rumors that she made a sex tape.

“Obviously I miss her, and she was my best friend for a really long time,” Montag said. “Hopefully one day we will be able to work through this and move on and patch some things up.”

Montag also weighed in on Audrina Patridge’s decision to move out of the house Conrad shares with Lo Bosworth.

“I talked to her briefly,” Montag told Extra. “I think this is great for her. I think this is very positive.

“She’s been independent her whole life, and I think Lauren was her first roommate experience, so I think it’s good that she can go back and enjoy her life and live by herself for a little bit,” Montag explained.

And as Hills supporting star Whitney Port shoots her spinoff show in New York City, are Montag and beau Spencer Pratt ready to headline their own show?

“Currently we love being on The Hills…We love reality TV,” Pratt told Extra. “It’s so much fun.

Added Montag, “I don’t think we’re going to stop reality TV anytime soon. [Our own series is] definitely one day in the works for sure.”

The couple also expect to get engaged.

“I need a ring first,” Montag said. “Down on one knee proposal with the waterfalls and the wedding carriage… and a horse carriage.”

The Emmy Awards just can’t get enough of Lauren Conrad. Conrad, made famous by the reality series “The Hills,” has been tapped to present an award, the TV academy said. She’d already been called on to design a gown for one of the “trophy girls” who bring awards on-stage.

Conrad joins such established stars as Tina Fey, Kristin Chenoweth and Conan O’Brien in the presenter ranks for the Sept. 21 awards airing on ABC.

Besides Conrad, other presenters announced this week include Christina Applegate, Candice Bergen, David Boreanaz, Wayne Brady, Jimmy Kimmel and Kiefer Sutherland.

Applegate is a nominee for “Samantha Who?” while Bergen received a nod for “Boston

Lauren Conrad — reality star, fashion designer … author?

The Hills star, 22, has signed a three-book deal with HarperCollins Publishers to pen a young adult fiction series.

Titled L.A. Candy, the series tells “the behind-the scenes story of a young girl who moves to L.A. and unexpectedly becomes the star of a reality television show,” according to a release.

Along with the fame comes fabulous clothes, romance and, of course, drama.

The character soon realizes that “everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it appears to be,” the release states.

“I’ve always loved books that I could lose myself in, ones that would transport me to another place, but had characters I could relate to,” Conrad said in a statement. “I’m so excited to have this opportunity to write books like that for other readers.”

Added Elise Howard, Senior VP/Associate Publisher of Fiction: “I’ve never seen a new project generate noise like the instant buzz that swept through our offices around this deal.

“The Hills and Lauren Conrad are household names among our staff, and their popularity is even higher among the teens who are our readers,” she said. “We’re bracing ourselves for a blockbuster publication.”

The first book will be published in next summer.

She’s lived through it, but even Audrina Patridge is talking about all the drama on The Hills!

“Last night’s episode of The Hills was intense,” the reality star wrote in her latest blog entry Tuesday, reacting to the show and her teary heart-to-heart with Lauren Conrad.

“I’m so glad Lauren and I had that talk,” she writes.”I’ve definitely learned not to let things build up and not to avoid certain scenarios. That was one of our first little confrontations. I believe they only make your friendship stronger in the long run.”

Patridge also thanks pal Justin-Bobby for his council – for coaching her through everything.

“He stays away from the drama and is usually pretty blunt about things,” Patridge writes. “He has a good intuition about people.”

Here is Audrina’s full blog entry:

Last night’s episode of The Hills was intense! I think that’s the third time I’ve cried so far on the show!!! Haha! I’m so glad Lauren and I had that talk. I’ve definitely learned not to let things build up and not to avoid certain scenarios. That was one of our first little confrontations, I believe they only make your friendship stronger in the long run.

There were a lot of little things that just kept adding to the tension. The new living situation, the new friend/roomie, the rumors you read and hear about in magazines and on gossip sites, moving on in the industry on my own, the whole flirtyness with certain someones that was uncalled for, and only being a true friend when it was called for were all building up. It was these and many other things that kept adding to the fire, and eventually led to the breakdown which included tears and big decisions.

Justin again was there for me through the hard time. He was very supportive, gave me good advice and offered me a place to stay if needed. One thing I love about him is that he stays away from the drama and is usually pretty blunt about things. He has a good intuition about people.

I feel that in the fourth season things have changed so much and continue to keep changing. It’s going to be a good season, don’t you think? :)

Just how famous have Lauren Conrad and her Hills pals gotten?

Tour buses stop in front of their $2.3 million, three-bedroom Hollywood Hills home “between 15 and 20 times a day — with speakers!” she said on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show Tuesday.

“Now they’ve started letting them out of the bus in front of our house!” Conrad, 22, went on. “If we’re about to leave and someone yells ‘Star Tours,’ you hit the ground. If you go down, they can’t see you.”

The Los Angeles Times recently reported that residents on Conrad’s block between Sunset and Hollywood boulevards are outraged by the ongoing filming of the MTV show.

But Conrad says that is not their beef.

“They’re complaining about the tour buses … and the paparazzi,” she said. “They’re both things that we cannot help.”

She said the neighbors “can be awful” to her and roomies, who include Lauren “Lo” Bosworth and Audrina Patridge.

“I’ve never been screamed at!” Conrad gasped.

Still, she said, “I sympathize with my neighbors — I wouldn’t want to deal with that, either. We’re also victims of that — we don’t want to deal with that.

“They should be complaining to the city.”

The neighbors may not stay angry for too long: Conrad said the new season of The Hills, starting Aug. 18 on MTV, will likely be its last.

“I would love to finish out the show and continue doing fashion,” she said.

Would Conrad (who will play herself on an upcoming episode of ABC Family’s Greek) ever pursue acting?

“I’m not good at acting — I’m not going to pretend to be,” she said.

She added, “I’d love to get involved in production. I would love to be on the other side.”

It was as inevitable as another Speidi photo op: The acting bug has bitten Lauren Conrad.

Enduring no hazing whatsoever, the leading lady of MTV’s The Hills (and this week’s EW cover girl) has signed on to appear in an episode of ABC Family’s addictive college soap, Greek. However, the gig won’t require her to go all Meryl Streep on us: She’ll be doing what she does best, playing herself in the show’s second season finale on Oct. 28.

Explains series creator Sean Smith, Conrad — who will shoot her scene in early September — is going to play a spiritual adviser to Spencer Grammer’s character. “It’s a dream sequence in which Casey and LC are best friends. Casey has a big decision she has to make, and she’s like, ‘LC, what do I do? Advise me!’” he reveals, adding that the girls’ dynamic reminds him of “when Frankie Avalon is telling Frenchie what do to in Grease. Casey holds LC in that high esteem.”

Although there are no direct Hills references in the script, Smith says the scene has a vibe that definitely calls the unreality show to mind. “There are a lot of ‘likes’ to make it sound more conversational.” And there’s gotta be at least one of The Hills’ trademark dramatic pauses… right? “There isn’t,” Smith laughs, “but that might change now.” (It’s worth noting that MTV had to sign off on the script.)

Programming note: Greek kicks off its second season on Aug. 26 in its new Tuesday time slot following The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
