IT’S getting messy between “Desperate Housewives” star Nicollette Sheridan and her former fiance, pop crooner Michael Bolton.

In May, the lovebirds bought a mansion in LA’s exclusive Hidden Hills area from Melissa Etheridge and her wife Tammy Lynn Michaels for $4.4 million – down from the asking price of $4.9 million.

Bolton, madly in love, left his East Coast home and moved in with his British-born sweetheart. On Aug. 24, he finally put his huge, 9,000 square foot Westport, Conn., home, known as Della Acqua, up for sale for a whopping $11 million.

Sadly for Bolton, just two days later, Sheridan “kicked him out,” our source said.

And now, “he’s basically homeless – and stuck with two houses. He and Nicollette split the Hidden Hills house, but she wants to stay there and not have him anywhere near it. She also doesn’t particularly want to pay him [for] his half and thinks he should just give [the house] to her.

“Michael’s kind of screwed,” our source continued. “He pulled up his longtime roots in Connecticut to live with her, and now she booted him. He’s got nowhere to go.”

To make matters worse, Sheridan “has a new boyfriend,” we’re told. But her pals said, “It is not David Spade – they are just friends. He’s not her type.” Of course, we’ve heard that before.

Sheridan and Bolton got engaged in March 2006 after dating just a few months. However, they knew each other for over a decade before that, and even dated for several years in the early ’90s.

Blond bombshell Sheridan broke up with an earlier fiance, fitness trainer Nicklas Soderblom, in 2005. Reps for Sheridan and Bolton didn’t return our calls.

Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton have called off their engagement, her rep tells Usmagazine.com.

The two have been engaged since March 2006.

“We haven’t decided where, and as soon as we make that decision it will happen very quickly,” Sheridan told the U.K.’s Mail on Sunday’s YOU magazine in December 2007.

She added, “I would like a baby,” though she was hesitant to say if they were trying.

“Michael is a wonderful human being. He has brought me a profound love and support. He is an amazing sounding board for me,” she went on. “I am the happiest now I’ve ever been in my life, feeling more grounded than I ever have.”

“For me there’s only been one person, and that’s Michael,” she added.

The two even collaborated musically, with Sheridan singing vocals on Bolton’s tune “The Second Time Around.”

The couple, who dated for five years beginning in 1992, rekindled their romance after Sheridan’s split from fiancé Nicklas Soderblom in 2005.

“Nicollette and I are very serious about each other,” Bolton told New York’s Daily News around the time of their engagement. “I am very committed. It is a very special time in my life. I have a good feeling about the future.”

She was previously married to L.A. Law actor Harry Hamlin; they separated the following year.

Bolton has three daughters from a previous 15-year marriage to Maureen McGuire. They divorced in 1990.

Michael Bolton may not be the Velvet Fog, but he sure looks smooth in his London Fog! In a new charity campaign, the soft rocker, 55, wraps naked fiancée Nicollette Sheridan, 44, in one of the fashion label’s classic trench coats.

Proceeds from the campaign benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a camp in Ashford, Conn., founded in 1988 by Paul Newman to give seriously ill children an outdoors experience. The sexy shots break in fashion mags next month.

NICOLLETTE Sheridan may have looked smokin’ in her bikini shots taken on St. Barts, where she vacationed with fiancé Michael Bolton last week, but her attitude was not so hot. A fellow beach-goer overheard a staffer at Hotel Taiwana, where the duo stayed, moaning about their behavior. “He said they were a ‘bloody nightmare.’ They kept trying to get deals on the room and boat rentals,” our source said. “They wanted a bigger boat. And he’s a vegetarian – they looked all over the island for food to accommodate him.” The two flew back to LA Saturday. Sheridan’s rep did not return a call.
