The ABC talk show host was leaving a party in Greenwich, Conn. on Nov. 12 when he backed his SUV into a parked police cruiser. Reeg walked away with a written warning. Now, Philbin’s insurance company has agreed to fork over $2,700 for repairs to the police car.

After flying in from Florida the other day on Donald Trump’s plane, the “Live with Regis and Kelly” host and his wife, Joy, visited billionaire drugstore wholesaler Stewart Rahr at his Kinray warehouse in Queens. During a tour of the huge facility, Philbin loaded up on shaving cream, cosmetics and cologne. Rahr refused payment, but when he returned to his office, he found Philbin had left $400 under his computer keyboard.

REGIS Philbin was performing for free at Fresco the other day when he couldn’t find his coat check. Regis went into the coat room and asked the attendant if her hat was on too tight. Then, seeing the line forming outside the coat room, Philbin started teasing: “What are you looking at? Do you think this is some side show? Go inside and look at Rudy Giuliani instead!” The former mayor was unaware of the commotion. It soon turned out that Regis’ lunch date, Rebecca Taylor, new general manager of WABC-TV, had the coat check.

Kelly Ripa says Regis Philbin, her co-host on “Live With Regis and Kelly,” is in good shape after having heart bypass surgery this week. Ripa said Philbin, 75, came through his surgery Wednesday with flying colors.

“He is already up joking around with the nurses and the doctors and harassing people and picking on people,” Ripa said. The doctor “told us what we already knew: that Regis Philbin has the heart of a 19-year-old.”

Ripa, 36, said she plans to keep her promise to give Philbin some special attention: a sponge bath.

“I’m so thrilled that you’re feeling better,” she said, “and nursie-poo is coming with her sponge!”

MTV’s Damien Fahey, who was filling in for Philbin on Thursday’s show, had a better idea: “It would be nice to bathe him on-air, you know what I mean? We replace the desk with a tub, we run some warm water.”

Ripa replied: “That’s the pay-per-view special.”

Philbin said on Monday’s show that he was having the surgery because “there’s some plaque in some arteries and I’ve got to get it cleaned out.”

Springer to Replace Philbin on NBC’s America’s Got Talent

Regis Philbin is out and Jerry Springer is in as the host for NBC’s summer talent show America’s Got Talent.

NBC SVP of Alternative Programming Craig Plestis made the announcement in a statement Monday that Regis Philbin is stepping down as the host of the talent show America’s Got Talent. Philbin is to be replaced by talk-show host Jerry Springer who last appeared on reality television on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.

In a prepared statement Philbin cited the difficulties in traveling between New York, where his syndicated show with Kelly Ripa is taped, and Los Angeles, where Talent is taped. “Unfortunately, since the show is taped in Los Angeles, I underestimated the impact the heavy travel schedule would have on my daily syndicated talk show.”

Talent, produced by FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell’s SYCO TV, was the #4 summer series in adults 18-49 in 2006. Like Cowell’s American Idol NBC’s talent show has a host and a panel of celebrity judges. In the 2006 edition of the show those judges were David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Brandy.

Singer-actress Brandy has been the subject of much tabloid speculation after being involved in a fatal car accident in Los Angeles on December 30, 2006.

NBC has yet to officially determine the identities of the judges for the 2007 edition, but a spokesperson says that “as of this time we have all the same judges.”
