TWILIGHT heart-throb ROBERT PATTINSON is attracted to women who are slightly crazy – insisting he likes his ladies to be “mental, strong women.”

The British star has been catapulted to international stardom with his leading role in the new vampire romance, and as a result is never short of female attention.

But Pattinson insists there are specific qualities he looks for in a girl.

He tells British magazine Closer, “The stuff I find attractive in women, I always regret finding attractive. I always like a kind of madness in a woman, and when they are really, really strong. And they’re the worst – mental, strong women!

“But I like it when they hate me right from the beginning.”

Now that ‘Twilight’ is a smash, its young stars will get huge raises for the sequel — and the sequel after that.

here’s one rule in Hollywood that’s rarely broken: Pull in big bucks at the box office and a sequel — or three — is virtually guaranteed. Of course the ”Twilight” film’s $70 million-plus bonanza this weekend was largely due to a built-in fan base — thanks to the enormous success of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight novels.

So, not only have deals been cut for a not-unexpected second ”Twilight” film (based on Meyer’s New Moon book), but I’ve learned a third film is also virtually a done deal, based on Meyer’s Eclipse novel — though that won’t be confirmed for some time.

Also, sources say stars Robert Pattinson, 22, and Kristin Stewart, 18, will get huge salary boosts from the $2 million each earned for “Twilight” — reportedly $10 million more, per film, plus a nice percentage of the future movies’ box-office take.

While Pattinson and Stewart are coming back as the romantic vampire Edward Cullen and his young human love Bella Swan, it’s not confirmed that director Catherine Hardwicke will be back behind the camera. The director told the AP Sunday, ”I want to be sure that [the second film is] going to be done right. I don’t want to rush into it. It’s not like ‘Friday, the 13th’ or ‘Halloween,’ you can’t just do it super fast and knock another one out.” Hardwicke indicated she wanted to be sure she and the film’s producers were on the same page going forward.

• The big success of ”Twilight” also helps ensure Summit Entertainment’s position in Hollywood. ”Twilight” is the new studio’s sixth release and only cost $37 million. Previously, its best known film was ”In the Valley of Elah,” which won Tommy Lee Jones another Oscar nomination last year.

Twilight star Robert Pattinson can make gaggles of girls scream, but says he’s unlucky when it comes to keeping just one girl.

“No one else seems to get into a relationship with me,” the 22-year-old Brit, who agrees to being a “relationship type guy,” said Tuesday at a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show set to air Friday. “It’s really strange.”

“People like screaming at me,” Pattinson noted. “Actually they like screaming at me in relationships as well. No one wants to commit.”

After disagreeing with the newly-minted heartthrob, DeGeneres gave Pattinson, who plays hunky vampire Edward Cullen in the upcoming flick, something that may help him attract a girlfriend: a custom pair of Ellen underwear embroidered with “Bite Me” across the bum.

The film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s first novel from her bestselling teen saga, which costars Kristen Stewart as mortal heroine Bella, opens Friday as well.

You’d think Brad Pitt had shown up.

Instead, it was Twilight’s brooding vampire Robert Pattinson, accompanied by director Catherine Hardwicke, who drew a packed and very loud crowd at the Soho Apple store Monday night for a fan Q&A about his vampire film based on the best-selling book by Stephenie Meyer.

The audience, made up mostly of screaming girls, went nuts when Pattinson showed up, shrieking “I love you” to the British thespian. Pattinson responded with a bemused “thank you” to very boisterous declarations of adoration, but told the ladies he’s no polished hunk.

“I haven’t washed my hair in about six weeks,” said Pattinson, 22. “It’s disgusting.”

Is he anything like Edward Cullen, the bloodsucker who feeds on animals rather than humans? “I have an incredible six-pack. I’m joking,” cracked Pattinson. “I can run really fast. I’m good at climbing trees. I always get carried away when I’m kissing people. I just go nuts.”

He signed on to do the film because “I liked Catherine. I like the story,” said Pattinson. “Done.”

Depending on how Twilight, which opens Nov. 21, performs at the box office, sequels are a possibility for the director and her stars. Hardwicke, best known for smaller films such as Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown, seems mostly unfazed by the massive and very passionate followers of the film, even though fans clustered outside the Apple store and mobbed her car when she arrived.

“They’re very vocal,” said Hardwicke of the book series’ followers.

How did Hardwicke find Pattinson, whose largest film role to date has been Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films?

“We auditioned every gorgeous guy that acts on the planet,” she said. “(Pattinson) came over to meet with Kristen (Stewart, who plays Edward’s human love Bella) and I. They auditioned and they did some scenes on my bed. These two had the chemistry.”
