Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher’s Baby Due in Winter

Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen and his longtime girlfriend, Australian actress Isla Fisher, are expecting a baby this winter, a source close to the couple confirms.

The couple, who have been together for about five years, attended Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, with Fischer showing off her figure in a cream-colored dress – and often rubbing her belly.

Backstage, the couple smooched and greeted a steady stream of friends, one of whom one loudly exclaimed, “congratulations on the baby!” Cohen excitedly answered: “Thank you!”

Both Cohen, 35, and Fisher, 31, began their careers overseas. Cohen, who was born in England and educated at Cambridge, rose to fame in the late 1990s as the wannabe rapper Ali G on British television, and became familiar to U.S. audiences in 2003 when Da Ali G Show began airing on HBO. He became even more popular with the success of last year’s comedy, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

Fisher, who was raised in Australia, got her acting career rolling in the mid-’90s on the Aussie soap opera Home and Away, but is best known in the United States as Vince Vaughn’s hyperactive love interest in Wedding Crashers.

She told a British newspaper in 2005: “Sacha makes me laugh more than anyone.”

British funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen is facing another legal battle over his character Borat Sagdiyev – this time from an Israeli comedian who alleges he stole his signature line.

Dovale Glickman intends to sue the Golden Globe Award winner for copyright infringement, accusing him of stealing the phrase “Wa wa wee wa”, which he says belongs to him.

Baron Cohen has already been sued by southern conservatives in the US, college fraternity members and Romanian villagers who claim they were duped into appearing in hit film Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan.

The Israeli comedian claims he coined Borat’s phrase 16 years ago for a character on the hit Israeli comedy show Zehu Zeh and even used the expression in a series of TV commercials for the Israeli yellow pages.

He states the phrase became popular all over the country and is still commonly heard on the street in Israel.

Sacha Baron Cohen has been hit by a new lawsuit from a man who claims he was “accosted” by the British funnyman in character as Borat in a South Carolina restaurant last year.

Footage of the incident, in which Cohen posed as a toilet attendant, did not feature in his hit movie Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan, but has appeared on the Comedy Central network and the internet.

The plaintiff, who is not named in the lawsuit, accuses Cohen of invading his privacy by staring as he used a urinal. Staff at the Ristorante Divino told the man a tourist documentary was being shot on the premises but he did not see the hidden cameras in the toilet.

The lawsuit makes no mention of a consent waiver and attorney Jonathan Milling insists his client was not paid.

The plaintiff is seeking damages and an injunction to prevent footage appearing on future DVDs.

British funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen has been nominated for a national award in Kazakhstan, despite lampooning the country in his latest movie.

Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan was slammed by the central Asian state on it release earlier this year for portraying the country as ridden with superstition, incest, political suppression and religious intolerance.

But Kazakh novelist Sapabek Asip-Uly has called on his nation’s Club of Art Patrons to give Cohen its annual award, according to a letter published by the Vremya newspaper.

He says, “(Borat) has managed to spark an immense interest of the whole world in Kazakhstan – something our authorities could not do during the years of independence.

“If state officials completely lack a sense of humour, their country becomes a laughing stock”.

Earlier this week Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev added his support to the movie, insisting bumbling reporter Borat has raised Kazakhstan’s profile around the world.
