Scarlett Johansson has become engaged to her actor boyfriend Ryan Reynolds after a one year courtship.

The Lost In Translation actress looked delighted as she showed off her new diamond ring for the first time as she attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York City last night.

The 23-year-old and Canadian beau Reynolds, 31, started dating in March 2007 – a month after the Just Friends actor ended his three-year engagement to singer Alanis Morissette.

Johansson’s representative Marcel Pariseau confirmed the couple’s engagement to People magazine on Monday.

She said: “They’re both thrilled.”

Pariseau declined to say exactly when the couple got engaged, but admitted it was recently. They are yet to set a wedding date.

Johansson initially denied reports in February that the couple were getting married after she was spotted looking at wedding gowns at the Monique Lhuillier boutique in LA.

Before she starting dating Reynolds last year, Johansson was in a two-year relationship with her Black Dahlia co-star Josh Hartnett and previously dated actor/singer Jared Leto.

Friends of the couple believe they may delay the wedding until after this year because they are so busy.

Johansson’s debut album Anywhere I Lay My Head is released on May 20 and she has two movies Vicky Cristina Barcelona and He’s Just Not That Into You coming out this summer.

She is currently filming New York, I Love You in her hometown of NYC, while Reynolds is currently making romantic comedy The Proposal with Sandra Bullock four hours away in Boston.

On May 20, Scarlett Johansson’s Tom Waits covers album, titled ‘Anywhere I Lay My Head,’ sees its release, with guest spots from David Bowie and production by TV on the Radio’s David Sitek.

“When I had the idea to do an album of Tom Waits songs, before I had even met Dave [Sitek], someone suggested I sing ‘Falling Down,’” Johansson tells Spinner. “But I decided it was too corny for me to do just because it has the lyric about ‘Scarlett and me.’ But Dave hadn’t even noticed it. When I mentioned it, he thought the synchronicity was crazy and I never even thought twice about it after that. I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’”
“With ‘Falling Down,’ our pursuit of making one song with both Kermit the Frog and David Bowie on it became a success,” Sitek adds.

Word from spywitnesses is that “The Proposal” star Ryan Reynolds and his galpal, Scarlett Johansson, had a bit of a lovers’ spat in the Financial District the other day.

According to Someone Who Was There, the Tinseltown lovebirds were walking on Arch Street down by the church and having a raaather heated discussion.

“The Ryan guy was clearly being a baby,” said our spy. “She kept grabbing his arm and he’d yank it away and she’d keep saying ‘Ry, come on, Ry. Stop.’

“He kept switching directions on the sidewalk like he wanted her to leave, responding over and over, ‘Roger that!’ – whatever that was supposed to mean.”

The hostilities ceased when the couple noticed that there was a photographer trailing them.

“He grabbed her hand and stormed away,” said our snoop.

Reynolds, of “Definitely, Maybe” fame, is in town filming “The Proposal” with Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Jo was in town visiting him.

And if you believe the tabloids – and who doesn’t – there has been some trouble in lovelyland for the Tinseltown twosome. Word is, the couple is going through “a rough patch,” because Reynolds, 32, wants to tie the knot and his galpal is just 23 and very focused on her career at the mo.

“Scarlett is younger and has no desire for a husband or family just yet,” a source told London’s Daily Mail.

Guess you could say she rejected The Proposal.

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have been quietly dating for about a year, but reports of their relationship being on the outs are becoming more frequent.

According to the Australian press, “Scarlett and Ryan have hit a rough patch after he dared to broach the subject of marriage and kids. Scarlett is younger and has no desire for a husband or family just yet.”

Also, reports that Johansson moved into Reynolds’ Los Angeles home aren’t true either, according to sources. “Scarlett hasn’t moved in full time. She has just moved in so when she stays over she has some belongings there. She is very much focused on her career and is filming three movies back-to-back this year.”

Scarlett Johansson, full-time actress and sometime rocker, masks her celestial forearm tat for her latest flick, period piece The Other Boleyn Girl. The 23-year-old plays the film’s title character opposite Natalie Portman, as history’s most famous beheadee, Ann Boleyn.

She told the Today Show’s Matt Lauer this morning about her work in the corsets-and-controversy drama: “I had come to the project originally because Natalie was attached to it and I desperately wanted to work with her. I had been a fan for so long.”

The duo’s mutual admiration comes through in their recent sexy photo shoot for W magazine.

SCARLETT Johansson has been dating Canadian hottie Ryan Reynolds for a year now, and rumors have them secretly engaged. Adding fuel to the fire, Johansson took her mother and sister to the Monique Lhuillier boutique in LA recently to look at wedding dresses. “They stayed for a while,” our source said. A rep for the actress didn’t return e-mails. Reynolds, who used to be engaged to Alanis Morissette, is said to be keener on marriage than Johansson, who has said she’s in no rush.

SCARLETT Johansson has a steamy lesbian sex scene with Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen’s upcoming “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” A source tells us: “It is also extremely erotic. People will be blown away and even shocked. Penelope and Scarlett go at it in a red-tinted photography dark room, and it will leave the audience gasping.” The women later have a threesome with Javier Bardem, who plays Cruz’s husband. The film also stars Patricia Clarkson, Rebecca Hall, Kevin Dunn and Chris Messina.

Scarlett Johansson will travel to the Persian Gulf for five days to visit service members as part of a USO entertainment tour.

Scarlett believes that just writing a letter to a service member isn’t enough for her; she wants to really get involved. “This USO tour to the Gulf region truly means a lot,” she says. “I’ve wanted to go over and visit for some time, and now my moment has arrived. It’s one thing to reply to a letter or extend your thanks to service members in a speech, but it’s another thing to visit them and spend time with those that do so much for us back home.”

The USO’s mission, to support U.S. troops and their families wherever they serve, has included celebrity volunteers in the past like Cher, Jessica Simpson and Morgan Freeman.
