The day after Carrie Prejean was told she could keep her Miss California crown, Shanna Moakler has resigned, she confirmed exclusively.
“Since the press conference yesterday, I had a chance to think about what has taken place, and I feel that at this time it is in my best interest to resign from the Miss California USA organization,” Moakler tells Us.
“I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth,” she continues. “I want to be a role model for young women with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams.”
Miss California USA pageant director Keith Lewis told Us in a statement: “Shanna has, and will continue to be, a large part of my life. Although I am sad she has come to this decision, I will always respect the convictions that brought her to this place.”
Prejean, 21, first ignited controversy at the April 19 pageant when she told judge Perez Hilton that she believed marriage should be between only a man and a woman, igniting a cultural debate. The runner-up said her answer cost her the crown.
Prejean later announced that she’ll be launching a campaign opposing gay marriage with the National Organization for Marriage.
Shortly after, Moakler announced she was appearing in new ad supporting gay rights. She shot a print ad April 28 slamming Proposition 8, the initiative that bans gay marriage in California.
On Tuesday, pageant owner Donald Trump announced Prejean would keep her crown despite failing to reveal she had posed in her underwear as a teenager.
(Prejean said the pictures were leaked to humiliate her because of her anti-gay marriage views, calling it a “vicious and mean-spirited” attacks. Even more photos hit the web before Trump’s press conference Tuesday morning.)
On Monday, California pageant officials announced that Prejean violated her contract by lobbying on behalf of an anti-gay-marriage group and by failing to reveal that she had posed in her underwear as a teenager.
They appointed Tami Farrell, her runner-up, as “Beauty of California Ambassador” to fulfill any duties that Prejean might not be able to carry out.

Shanna Moakler Confirms Pageant Organization Paid For Carrie Prejean’s Breast Implants

Shanna Moakler, Co-Executive Director of the Miss California Organization, has confirmed the group behind the pageant paid for Miss California Carrie Prejean’s breast implants, weeks before she competed in Miss USA.
In a new interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, Shanna confirmed the news.
“Did you guys pay for it?” Billy asked Shanna directly.
“Yes,” Shanna said. “We did.”
The organization paid for Carrie’s breast enhancement prior to her competing in the Miss USA pageant, which was held in Las Vegas, almost two weeks ago.
“It was something that we all spoke about together,” Shanna said referring to herself, Carrie and Keith Lewis, Shanna’s co-executive director. “It was an option and she wanted it. And we supported that decision.”
Shanna, a former Miss USA herself, defended the Miss California Organization’s decision to pay for the elective surgery.
“Breast implants in pageants is not a rarity. It’s definitely not taboo. It’s very common. Breast implants today among young women today is very common. I don’t personally have them, but you know — they are,” she added.
Shanna supported Carrie’s plastic surgery, however, she had a hard time standing behind Carrie’s opinion against gay marriage in her answer to a question from Perez Hilton during the Q&A portion of the Miss USA competition.
“The night of the show, I wrote Carrie and I congratulated Carrie and I also told her her answer, for me, did hurt feelings,” Shanna told Billy.
Carrie is still involved in a media frenzy, sparked by her controversial response at the Miss USA pageant, and Shanna claims the young woman has been avoiding responding to her Miss California bosses.
“We’ve tried really hard [to get in contact] and she keeps referring us to her mother and her PR person,” Shanna claimed. “That’s also sad for me… because, you know, there’s no hate here. I don’t hate Carrie Prejean. I supported her and I still stand behind her.”
When asked if stripping Carrie of her crown was a possibility, Shanna said they need to see how things work out.
“I don’t want to fire her! I think she’s a great, young girl, and I got into pageants, because I want to help young girls. I want to guide young girls. I know what pageants [did] for me and I know what it can do for young women and also working within the community,” Shanna said.
“I don’t want to fire Carrie. I want her to use her platform, because this is her platform, I didn’t know she was this passionate about it… I’m glad I know now and I support and will help her, but…” she trailed off.
“Since you can’t communicate, when do you say, ‘Alright, come back and follow the Miss California itinerary and get on board or we’re going to fire you?’” Billy asked.
“I guess we’re all going to have to wait and see how that plays out because I don’t have the answers for that,” Shanna said.

Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler have split again, their reps confirm to Usmagazine.com.
The couple — who divorced in 2004 but reconciled last September after Barker’s near-fatal plane crash — called it quits “after a nasty fight broke out at his house last night and cops were called…[when] Shanna started freaking out and acting irrational,” a source tells Us.
No charges were filed.
“Travis confronted Shanna about her having an affair with Gerard Butler while he was in the hospital recovering,” the source says. Butler and Moakler were spotted getting cozy at the Hollywood opening of Shin Korean BBQ last October.
A source close to Butler insists to Us, “They were always just friends. Nothing more.”
Barker “just wants to focus on his music and his children right now. He is done with her drama,” the source says.
In February, Barker told Us he “couldn’t be happier” after reuniting with Moakler, who was spotted wearing her wedding band at a Grammys party.
Barker’s rep tells Us: “After surviving the plane crash his driving force in life is the love he has for his kids. He is tired of all other drama and is ready to move on.”
A rep for Moakler tells Us: “They did break up but Shanna never cheated on Travis while he was in the hospital. Furthermore, Shanna is tired of playing out their personal relationship in the press.”
Barker, 33, and Moakler, 34, are parents to Landon Asher and Alabama Luella. She also has a daughter, Atiana Cecilia, with ex Oscar de la Hoya. They starred in the MTV reality show “Meet the Barkers” in 2006.
“The babies are the most important thing right now,” adds the insider. “Shanna cheated on him and then told everyone they were in love again while she was having an affair and he was recovering from the accident.”
Barker spent a month in the hospital in the hospital with second and third degree burns on his hands and lower body following the crash, which killed four people and badly injured Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein.
“It’s over now and he just wants to move on,” the pal says.

The on-again, off- again saga of Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler is in the “off” position

The couple, who married in 2004, divorced in 2006 and have gotten back together and broken up umpteen times, are taking a break. “They still love each other madly, but this is just the nature of their relation ship,” says a friend of Moakler, adding, “I bet they’ll be back together soon enough.” Moakler’s rep, Lizzie Grubman, tells Page Six, “We never comment on the personal lives of our clients.”

New couple alert?
Shanna Moakler and Gerard Butler were photographed getting cozy at the Hollywood opening of Shin Korean BBQ on Monday.
Throughout the night, Butler also served guests drinks behind the bar.
At one point, a patron told him, “Thanks,” and he said, “I have no idea what the f–k I’m doing.”
When asked if he’s taken any ladies to lunch lately, Butler recently joked with Usmagazine.com, “Oh, you know, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Cindy Crawford – and I may even get together with a single one.”
His flirty behavior with Moakler comes days after her ex, Travis Barker, blogged that she hasn’t visited him in the hospital in L.A.

Former Playboy Playmate, Miss USA, and mother of three Shanna Moakler says that the secret to looking more radiant than ever is her vegetarian diet. Shanna is the latest celebrity to record a Veggie Testimonial ad for PETA extolling the virtues of a meatless diet.
“There are so many good reasons not to eat meat, but for me, the well-being of my children is the most important,” says Moakler, who has also appeared in several films and on many TV shows, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigations and Dancing With the Stars. “I want them to be healthy and also to understand that when they say ‘No!’ to meat, they’re saying ‘No!’ to animal cruelty. We talk about our pets, and I say, ‘You wouldn’t eat Biscuit, would you? Well, then let’s not eat any animal, O.K.?’”

Shanna Moakler on Crash: “Our Lives Will Be Changed Forever”

Shanna Moakler has released the following statement regarding Travis Barker’s weekend jet crash:
“There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this very difficult time. We can only ask for prayers as we heal and mourn the loss of our dear friends who we considered part of our family. Our lives will be changed forever.”
Moakler, who is now back together with Barker after a 2004 divorce (they have two kids together), is with the rocker as he recovers from second and third degree burns at the Joseph Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia. He is expected to make a full recovery.
He has been receiving an outpouring of support from his celebrity friends.
DJ Steve Aoki and Jermaine Dupri paid him a visit over the weekend.
“It’s a seriously sad situation,” Dupri told Usmagazine.com. “He’s doing good… but I really hate to see my friends go through this.”
On Monday, a coroner determined that smoke and fire killed the pilot and co-pilot while impact-related injuries killed two other passengers.
While a cause for the crash has yet to officially be determined, a blown tire during takeoff may be to blame.
In a statement, Goodyear, the tire’s manufacturer, said: “We have been contacted by the [National Transportation Safety Board] and will cooperate fully with its investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this accident.”

Travis Barker’s former mother-in-law, Gail Moakler, tells PEOPLE, “We’re totally crushed,” but that Shanna Moakler has rushed to be with her ex, while DJ AM’s sister, Lara, and her husband, Benjamin Long, learned the news of the plane crash – in which Barker and DJ AM were badly burned and four others were killed – from a phone call from AM’s mother on Saturday morning.
“We’re in shock,” Benjamin Long told PEOPLE. “Nobody expects something like this. We’re waiting to hear more.”
Moakler, whose daughter Shanna was married to Barker, tells PEOPLE, “Our heart pours out. We’re hoping he recovers. The family is rallying around him and saying our prayers.”
Both Barker, 32, and DJ AM (real name: Adam Michael Goldstein), 35, were taken to a burn center in Augusta, Georgia, about 75 miles southwest of the Columbia, S.C., crash site. Both are listed in critical condition.
Four others on the plane were killed: pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif.; security guard Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles; and Barker’s assistant Chris Baker, 29, also of Los Angeles.

Children Not Told
Upon hearing the news of the crash, “Shanna flew out this morning, and I am going to L.A. to be with the children so that she can devote time to Travis,” Gail Moakler tells PEOPLE.
Former Playboy Playmate Shanna Moakler, 33, was married to Barker from 2004 until earlier this year. They have two children: son Landon, 4, and daughter Alabama, 2.
“There’s still love between them,” says Gail Moakler. “They may be divorced, but they’re still very close. She spends a lot of time with him. Their priorities are their kids.”
The youngsters have yet to be told about the incident. “We’re waiting a bit to see what God brings,” says their grandmother, who adds, “Shanna spoke to Travis last night. He was defiant after the accident and didn’t want to be lifted in a helicopter, but rather an ambulance, so they had to knock him out.”

DJ AM is a Survivor
“The whole thing is crazy,” said Benjamin Long. “We’re thankful that he made it. And we feel horrible about those who didn’t. It’s just awful.”
He added that his bother-in-law is a survivor. “He flies all the time,” says Long. “A lot of people know his story. He’s pulled through a lot of things in the past.”
The Learjet carrying six people that crashed after midnight Friday was just over one year old and chartered from Global Executive Aviation in Long Beach, Calif., according to Columbia Metropolitan Airport spokesperson Lynne Douglas,
“The crash was the result of an overrun on its flight to Van Nuys [Calif.],” says Douglas, who attended a National Transportation Safety Board press conference Saturday afternoon in Columbia. “The NTSB is gathering information and fact finding to learn what happened in this tragedy.”
A statement was also issued by the Pure Management Group’s vice-president of entertainment, Michael Greco. It said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to both Adam and Travis. The PMG family is deeply saddened by the news of this unfortunate event and we wish Adam and Travis a speedy recovery and send our sincere condolences to the families who lost loved ones.”
