French fashion house Christian Dior said Thursday it has dropped Sharon Stone from its Chinese ads and released a statement from the actress apologizing for saying China’s earthquake may have been bad karma for its treatment of Tibet.

The 50-year-old actress said she was “deeply sorry” for causing anguish and anger among Chinese people wwhen you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?”ith her remarks in an interview last week. Stone models for Christian Dior SA, and the company’s Shanghai office issued the statement.

Stone’s comments caused considerable anger in the Chinese media. The official Xinhua News Agency said in a commentary Thursday she was the “public enemy of all mankind.”

The public relations manager for Dior in Shanghai who gave only her surname, Guo, said Stone would no longer appear in the company’s advertisements in China.

“Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people,” Stone said in the statement. “I am willing to take part in the relief work of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.”

Chinese media have erupted in indignation over foreign criticism of the country ahead of the Beijing Olympics in August. During the international leg of the Olympic torch relay, many Chinese reacted strongly to protests over China’s rule of Tibet.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Thursday he had taken note of Stone’s apology.

“We hope that as an actress she should contribute to our two peoples’ mutual trust, understanding and friendship,” he said.

Stone’s original comments were made last week during a Cannes Film Festival red-carpet interview.

“I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else,” Stone said. “And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?”

Actress Sharon Stone, known for her off-the-wall comments, is at it again — this time saying the devastating earthquake in China might have been “karma” for the Communist nation’s treatment of Tibet and the Dalai Lama.

During a red-carpet interview at the Cannes Film Festival Thursday, Stone said she’d been torn about what to do for the victims of the earthquake in China, whose staggering death toll has been steadily climbing and could surpass 80,000, because she doesn’t agree with the country’s policies.

“I’m not happy about the way that the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else,” she told reporters at Cannes. “And so I have been very concerned about how to think and what to do because I don’t like that.”

She said she’s also been wondering how the United States should handle the Olympics because China is “not being nice to the Dalai Lama, who’s a good friend of mine.”

When the earthquake hit, Stone wondered if it was a case of what goes around, comes around.

Then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice, that the bad things happen to you?” said the 50-year-old star.

But the “Basic Instinct” actress had a change of heart when she got a letter from the Tibetan Foundation saying the organization wanted to be helpful to the quake victims. Stone was humbled.

“That made me cry,” she said. “Sometimes you have to learn to put your head down and be of service, even to people who aren’t nice to you. That’s a big lesson for me.”

Fur loving Sharon Stone could give a rat’s ass about what she wears these days on the red carpet. Literally.

Stone showed up to the Elton John party last night wearing an actual rats paw as a broach. And of course, PETA has a few kind words for the animal killer. “Maybe Sharon, passed over by the Academy yet again, was jealous of Ratatouille’s Oscar win and thought a rodent paw might go with her haggard look. Her accessories these days are as dead as her career.” Meow!

Yes, that is actually Sharon Stone, looking a sliver worse for the wear — and, disconcertingly, a bit like a raccoon — Thursday at the Sundance Film Festival. Apparently indifferent to the idea of sporting quality hair and makeup, the actress was in Park City, Utah, to attend the premiere of her new film, The Year of Getting to Know Us, which co-stars Jimmy Fallon and Lucy Liu.

In Hollywood Sharon, 49, has been in talks with Olivier Dahan, director of the Edith Piaf biopic La Vie en Rose, perhaps hoping he’s going to be able to give her the career boost he did for Marion Cotillard (who was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar on Tuesday).

Our fingers are crossed for you, Sharon, but maybe you should stop following your basic instincts.

Perhaps all the criticism over her dodgy style has gone to her head, or maybe Sharon Stone is simply giving everyone the sartorial middle finger with these dressed-in-the-dark duds. It’s hard to know what to mock first: the track pants worn under a bedazzled trench coat or the bumblebee-inspired bandana — what is she, the lead singer in an ’80s hair band?

But our favorite has to be the out-of-nowhere red lipstick that is not only the wrong shade for her sun-starved complexion but also looks like it was smeared on with the palm of her hand.

Fashion mockery overload, cannot compute!

ANYONE who wants “Basic Instinct” star Sharon Stone to host an event will have to pay up. Insiders say she pulls $175,000 for a mere 30 minutes of face time at noncharitable events. “Sharon is starting to attend store openings and corporate events. In return, she receives major cash,” said a source. Stone’s agent did not return calls.
