DKMS, the world’s largest bone marrow donor center, is excited to announce the release of a new PSA featuring recording artist, actress, model and DJ, Solange Knowles. A longtime supporter of DKMS, she hit the turntables as DJ for the DKMS Gala after-party and hosted her own donor drive earlier this year. As a registered donor herself, Solange is using her voice to educate and empower people across the world. The PSA communicates DKMS’s mission to save lives by recruiting bone marrow donors for blood cancer patients.

Kara, who is 19, is just one example of a young patient in need of a bone marrow transplant. Diagnosed on May 16, 2011 while her father was serving in Afghanistan, a biopsy of a nasal cavity tumor revealed that Kara had a rare form of lymphoma NKT – a white blood cell killer. Her parents Nathan & Rosie – who both fought as soldiers– are now in the hardest battle of their lives to save their daughter.

As a mother, Solange understands how heartbreaking it must be to watch your child suffer and not be able to help. Her dedication to registering new donors is personal, and this past summer she took charge and hosted a donor drive at her son Juelz’s school. This PSA raises a call to action and educates the public on how simple being a patient’s potential cure is.

“Since attending the DKMS gala couple of years ago, I have wanted to lend my support in any way I could. People are dying and we can save them. Patients like Kara could be cured with a bone marrow transplant,” said Solange Knowles. “A lot of people don’t understand that it’s literally a cotton swab that determines if you’re a match. This can actually save someone’s life!”

Every day thousands of patients search the national registry in the hope of finding a bone marrow donor match. Less than 30% of patients find a match in their own family; the other 70% must search for an unrelated donor. Sadly, 6 out of 10 patients who can benefit from a transplant never receive one.

“Solange has a heart of gold and we are thrilled to have her as a DKMS ambassador who can help register bone marrow donors and save countless lives,” said Katharina Harf, COO of DKMS Americas. “Her PSA, which is powerful and honest, shares a message that is critical yet simple – get swabbed and you could save a life.”

Registering to become a bone marrow donor is more than a cheek swab; it is a commitment to help save a life. You must be between 18 and 55 and in good general health. When you register with DKMS, you will also be listed on the national registry and can be found as a donor match for any patient in need of a bone marrow transplant. Last week, Mathew Knowles broke the news that Beyoncé will embark on a 110-date world tour that will begin in April 2009 and trek through Canada, Europe, the U.S. (with a one-week stint in Las Vegas), Mexico, South America, Japan, Africa, and Australia. But what you didn’t hear was that Beyoncé won’t be the only Knowles on the road.

Discussions are under way for Solange to join her big sis’ on tour. After seeing the elder Knowles rock arenas, fans would be able to go to a more intimate location and watch Solange perform at an official “after-party.” Specific details have yet to be announced.

Beyoncé is scheduled to release her third album I Am… Sasha Fierce on November 18th, while Solange’s sophomore release SoL-AngeL and The Hadley St. Dreams is available now.

It must be hard being the baby sister of one of the biggest-selling music artists of all time, and Solange Knowles is clearly feeling the heat.

A sour-faced Knowles appeared on the Las Vegas daytime FOX entertainment show “More” on Wednesday to promote her new album, “Sol-Angel & The Hadley St. Dreams,” and was clearly peeved when the anchor introduced her as B’s sister.

We’re told that the publicity team behind the album has banned media outlets from even mentioning Solange’s sister’s name and under no circumstances were any Beyonce-related questions allowed. Oops.

But if that wasn’t bad enough, the 22-year-old started the live satellite interview by flipping out and telling off the surprised anchor by referring to her as “unprofessional.”

Just minutes before her interview, the station ran a tease piece on the breaking news that the Vegas branch of Jay-Z’s club 40/40 was officially closing down. So Solange started complaining about being linked to her “brother-in-law’s establishment” until a producer interrupted and told her that the tease wasn’t live and hadn’t even run yet. Another oops!

Apparently, Knowles’ peeps were apologetic about the diva-like outburst, although no official statement was made and a request for comment was not immediately returned.

A source close to Solange told Pop Tarts that the songstress hasn’t really had any media training, is “coddled” by her label and is spoiled to the point that she gets whatever she wants.

We’ve also been warned that quite a few FOX outlets have gotten an attitude from Knowles as she apparently isn’t a fan of the network, but is still willing to use us to promote her album. …

But back to Jay-Z, it seems the closure of his 40/40 club comes as no surprise due to the numerous problems involving staffing and liquor licenses that the venue has encountered since it opened on Dec. 30 last year.

“A lot of things didn’t add up. They got that liquor license oddly fast,” a source said. “And in Vegas, if the staff aren’t treated right, they just move to the next bar.”

These ladies know how to celebrate! Beyoncé Knowles threw a dance party for Solange’s 22nd birthday Monday night that brought out pals Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Mario and Destiny Child’s Michelle Williams.

Guests danced to tracks like Prince’s “Kiss” and Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved” spun by Lindsay Lohan pal DJ Samantha Ronson, as the birthday girl grabbed a microphone and called people to the floor. Lohan sat close to the deejay booth early on, but left before most guests arrived at the Hollywood Hills mansion at 11 p.m.

On Solange’s request, Ronson kept the tunes in the family, playing nearly every hit in Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z’s catalogs including “Big Pimpin’” (as Solange played a tambourine and Beyoncé showed off her best moves) and “Dirt Off Your Shoulder.” When Beyoncé’s “Get Me Bodied” played, revelers circled around the Knowles sisters as they reenacted dance moves from the song’s video.

Champagne flowed as guests noshed on barbecue chicken, cornbread, greens and mac and cheese (served buffet-style). Rock band Chester French took the stage playing an instrumental version of “What About Dre,” and finished their set with a rocked out version of “Happy Birthday.” Cupcakes with large white candles were passed through the crowd as everyone sang to Solange, who blew out the candles and banged on her tambourine.

Solange Knowles knows the challenge of being a famous teen mother.

Knowles, now 21, welcomed son Daniel in 2004 at the age of 18 (she split with husband, former college football player Daniel Smith, after the baby was born).

“I’m sure a lot of people perceived that I was gonna be a young, irresponsible mom,” Knowles told Usmagazine.com during a recent visit.

But Knowles pointed out, “I think that there are some moms who are 35 who are just as irresponsible.”

What advice does she have for the 17-year-old mom-to-be Jamie Lynn Spears?

“You just have to make the best decisions for you,” Knowles said. “You have to decide what’s best for you.

“Who are we to say what’s right and wrong for a person?”

To focus on raising her son, Knowles said she “moved to the country for a year” without any nannies or babysitters.

“My parents lived on a whole opposite part of the world,” she said. “My son has been my focus ever since the day he was born.”

“He’s been the light of my life,” she added, “the inspiration behind everything.”

Solange Knowles visited the New York offices of Us Weekly Wednesday but played coy when asked about the recent big event in her life: sister Beyoncé’s wedding.

Does Beyoncé like being married? “I have no idea!” she responded.

Solange attended Beyonce and Jay-Z’s hush-hush nuptials in NYC Friday night, Us Weekly reports in its latest issue, on newsstands now.

When complimented about the skirt she wore to the wedding, she only replied, “It was a cute dress.”

Was it a fun night? “What night are you talking about?” she replied. “Friday? Hmm. Friday. I really don’t [know].”

The wedding aside, Solange did comment about Beyonce and her family.

“She’s always pretty, she’s always beautiful,” she said when asked about Us’ cover story on Beyonce’s nuptials.

“Family is family, and we’re all [a] very tight knit, protective family,” she added.

Tuesday night Beyoncé turned up in the front row at Jay-Z’s sold out show in Atlanta, though there was no mention of their wedding.

“It made the apartment like a heaven, like a palace,” florist Amy Vongpitaka, owner of NYC’s Amy’s Orchids, told Us of the decorations. “You walked in, and it was all flowers — everything white and creamy.”

In the new issue, Us Weekly reports on the singer’s two dresses, what their first dance song was, the celebrity guests and just how tall the wedding cake was (hint: 5-foot-8!).
