Tara Reid checked into rehab last month and is getting her life back together with the help of her family, a source confirms.

“She’s doing well. The whole family is very positive about this being the new beginning for her,” says the source, who is close to the family.

Reid decided to check herself in to Promises Treatment Center, and though she’s been in treatment less than a month, her family and friends are optimistic about her future.

“They are taking steps to do everything they can to help Tara keep on the right track,” adds the source, who says Reid is expected to check out of the center shortly.

When she entered rehab her rep would not reveal what Reid was being treated for.

In an interview in October, Reid said she was a “social drinker” who enjoyed an occasional glass of wine with friends, but said that her partying days were over.

It’s no secret that stars get a lot of freebies, but it seems a complimentary cruise into rehab isn’t one of them.

According to Star Magazine,Tara Reid’s recent romp into Malibu’s Promises Treatment Center (which also housed other troubled Tinseltowners Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears) was given to her for free and that unlike all other patients, the “American Pie” starlet’s bags were not searched.

But as it turns out, Miss Reid really does have to pay for her Malibu stay which is a rumored $1600 per night.

“Promises is committed to keeping the identity of clients private to the best of our ability and Promises does not comments on its fees,” a rep from the rehabilitation facility told Tarts. “All client belongings are searched, as are all incoming packages. Rooms are subject to search at random and all clients are treated the same and expected to follow the same set of rules with no exceptions.”

The treatment facility’s rep also said that the suggestion that Promises would search Hollywood for a celebrity who needs rehab in an effort to garner publicity is libelous, offensive and without any basis in reality and are demanding the magazine print a retraction before further action is taken.

Reid checked into Promises on December 9 but declined to announce publicly what she was being treated for.

A rep for Reid also confirmed that the actress is certainly not receiving free or special treatment on her road to recovery.

Tara Reid has entered rehab, the actress’s rep told Usmagazine.com on Friday.

“Tara Reid has checked herself into Promises Treatment Center,” her rep told Us. “We appreciate your respect to her and her family’s privacy at this time.”

In 2006, Reid, now 33, opened up to Us Weekly about her party girl image.

“I’m not always drunk. My picture is taken only when I have a cup in my hand,” she said. “Trust me, my body is tired. I partied hard. But I think it was that the people I partied with were not the best people.”

She called her short-lived E! series, Taradise, “probably the stupidest thing I ever did.

“It was a mess,” said Reid, who underwent a botched breast augmentation and stomach liposuction that left her disfigured in 2004. “I didn’t know it was going to ruin my career. People forget I’ve done, like, 20 movies. I’m not just a party girl.”

Reid — who just launched a clothing line, Mantra, and who has been dating Julien Jarmoune — said the next step in her life was “meeting a nice guy and getting married.

“Have kids and get my acting back,” the American Pie star told Us in 2006. “I feel like my rainbow is starting to come.”

Page Six reported last week that Reid dropped Squire – who booked her at sleazy events at nightclubs like the Hustler bar in Australia – because she wanted to clean up her image. But Reid may not be aware that he pulled a few tricks to get her free rooms in ritzy resorts around the world, according to one source. “Richard would call and tell us he was working with big celebrities like Paris Hilton or Marcia Cross and would ask for a free suite. Then at the last minute, he would send Tara.” Maybe if the “American Pie” actress has a successful turn-around, she’ll be able to get free accommodations using her own name. Squire did not return calls or e-mails.

Eyebrows were raised earlier this year when she was booked into events like hosting a Hustler bar party in Australia – or randomly appearing at nightclubs, which perpetuated her party-girl image. Pals of Reid, who’s now focused on her clothing line, Mantra, said she was then being advised by Richard Squire, who was her “booker.” One friend said, “She is no longer working with him.” Squire is also said to work with Nicollette Sheridan and Kim Kardashian. A rep for Reid declined to comment, and Squire couldn’t be reached. But friends say the actress, who has talked openly about her bad plastic surgery and the scars it left, is “in a different place.” Reid is now dating her Mantra partner, Julien Jarmoune, a French fashion designer.

Someone needs to tell Tara Reid that the writers’ strike has been over for quite a while now, because it seems the “American Pie” actress didn’t get the memo.

“I totally plan to go back into acting once the strike stops,” Reid told Pop Tarts last week at Eva Longoria-Parker’s Padres Contra El Cancer’s 8th Annual “El Sueno De Esperanza” benefit gala in Hollywood. “The economy is so bad right now that people are afraid to put money back into acting. Even the shows that seem new, they really shot six months ago. So when it’s all back up again, I will go back into it. That’s my heart,” she said.

So instead of performing, Tara has been busy in her new career as a fashion designer … inspired by “The Secret.”

“I have a clothing line coming out called Mantra by Tara Reid. It’s like the book ‘The Secret’ — the whole line is about colors,” she explained. “Red means love, blue means love, white is peace, black means protection. So when you wear these colors, you might attract love, or green, you’ll get lucky tonight. You put the energy out there, that’s what the line is all about.”

Inside the swanky soiree, party host (and spokeswoman for the foundation) Longoria-Parker awkwardly addressed Reid and her new boyfriend. The “Desperate Housewife” once again flatly denied that she was pregnant, although being a parent is definitely on the agenda for Eva and her NBA hubby Tony Parker.

“People always say ‘I want a boy! I want a girl!’ I just think, ‘Oh my gosh, I just want a healthy child,’” she told us. “That’s truly a gift. If you’re a healthy adult, to complain about anything in life that’s so minute, you really have to be grateful for everything that you have and do something with it.”

Tara Reid is not engaged to French fashion executive for J & Company, Julien Jarmoune.

“It’s just a rumor, not true,” a rep for Reid tells Usmagazine.com.

The couple met while Reid was researching her new swim suit line Manta, according to the National Enquirer.

“I feel like I’m in a really great place in my life, and I love what I’m doing,” Reid said recently of her work as a designer. “I love acting but I can’t hire myself. If this works, then we’re in business. If not, I tried.”

Reid, 32, and Jarmoune were photographed showing major PDA at Blush Nightclub in Las Vegas, following Reid’s clothing line debut on August 28.

Reid has been linked to Tom Brady, and JC Chasez.

She was previously engaged to former MTV VJ Carson Daly in 2001.

“If I would have married Carson, I’d probably have kids by now… I wouldn’t have had all that crazy partying. My life would have been completely different,” Reid once said.
