Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen in the movies, thinks ‘High School Musical’ actress would be ‘great’ as Leah Clearwater.

With all the “New Moon” casting rumors that have been floating around since “Twilight” hit theaters, we were especially wondering who would play werewolf Leah Clearwater, Jacob Black’s feisty and heartbroken frienemy.

Well, one of the rumored actresses in the running — “High School Musical” starlet Vanessa Hudgens — has apparently taken the next step and auditioned for the role, according to “Twilight” actress Ashley Greene.

We ran into Alice herself at a Golden Globes afterparty, and she told us she’d be happy to co-star with Hudgens. “I think she’d be great,” Greene enthused.

Just last week, we asked Twilighters on our Movies Blog what actress should play Leah, including Hudgens and “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” actress Brenda Song as two poll options. The actresses tied at 31 percent of your vote, with “neither” being the most popular choice at 38 percent.

Commenters had a lot to say about Hudgens’ possible casting — both positive and negative.

“I cannot picture her being mean or aggressive as Leah,” Mary_ym commented about the Disney star.

“Vanessa Hudgens would be a good choice,” chill_kid_07 countered. ” … Of course she can’t look like Leah — no one can. You know why? ‘Cause it’s just a book, and these are actors trying to portray the roles! I think she would be great.”

Besides casting, Greene also had some news on the status of “New Moon.”

“I hear they’re doing another rewrite,” the actress revealed of the in-flux script. “I’m with you guys — I’m so excited to read it.”

Vanessa Hudgens has a unique recession strategy: Get as much as you can for free.

The “High School Musical” star hit the Golden Globes swag suites hard over the weekend, leaving her assistant to carry four “overflowing” bags of freebies, totaling a whopping $12,000.

Hudgens overtook “Access Hollywood’s” Stuff You Must … lounge suite, making sure to “take something from every booth,” our witness said.

Among the gratis goods were a one-year pass for her and a pal to a AMC Theatres, a BlackBerry Pearl, a coffee machine, a $4,000 diamond pendant, designer clutches, a year-long gym membership and more.

It was more than a little ironic when, during her spree, Hudgens commented on how overjoyed she was with the “huge house I just bought.”

We’re guessing it’s a little easier to fill a new home when you’re spending three hours in a gift lounge.

Many of the other greediest grabbers were further down the fame scale: January Jones of “Mad Men” acclaim snagged $10,000 of baubles from Kari Feinstein’s Golden Globe Lounge, while “O.C.” actress Samaire Armstrong snagged a $4,500 necklace from a neighboring booth. “Access Hollywood” host Nancy O’Dell picked up $8,000 diamond earrings at her own show’s lounge.

But what do actual Globe nominees think of the goodie gluttony in Tinseltown?

Whispers and rumors that 19 year old High School Musical actress/wannabe pop star Vanessa Hudgens was looking to buy herself a house in the Hills of Hollywood. The paps frequently photographed the dark haired gossip glossy favorite touring multi-million dollar properties and several reports came out that she bought this house. But, according to our sources, she did not buy that house.

In early August of 2008 while strutting her starlet stuff in borrowed clothes at the Teen Choice Awards, young Miss Hudgens rather brazenly announced to E! Entertainment’s super slim red carpet reporter Juliana Rancic that she was in the process of purchasing her first house. Not long after that, word was received a secret communique from a gal we’ll call Charity Chitchatter who whispered ithat she’d recently heard from someone who would know that Miss Hudgens had closed on her new house.

Property records show that in early September, young Miss Hudgens completed the transaction for an approximately 5,200 square foot house in the hills above Studio City that listing information reveals includes 6 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. Children, what in the world does an 19 year old gurl need with a 5,000+ square foot house with half a dozen bedrooms and 6.5 damn bathrooms?

Listing information also shows that in addition to all the bedrooms, Miss Hudgen’s new abode includes a large entrance hall with a curving staircase where she can practice for her Norma Desmond years, living and dining rooms, a home office, a large gore-may kitchen that looks to us like it could be in just about any upscale tract house anywhere and a family room that opens to the rear terrace and pool deck.

Other amenities of the teenager’s three story abode include hardwood and stone floors, glittery views over the San Fernando Valley, three fireplaces, a three car garage where she can park her pricey Audi convertible, multiple terraces overlooking the back yard and all sorts of wrought iron detailing we assume is an attempt to give the house a neo-Tuscan/faux Mediterranean/Moroccan mish-mash sort of vibe. Ack! Listen people, you can’t just slap a tile roof on a house an fill it with wrought iron railings and call it Tuscan because we have been to Tuscany and we are certain there are not many (if any) houses in Tuscany that look quite like this. But then again, Miss Hudgens is just a bizzy teen aged ack-tress giddy and flush with fame and while she may well know a Louboutin from a Blahnik and True Religion from Rock and Republic, what does the gurl know about architecture? Seriously. We imagine her real estate agent could have told her this was High Gothic Georgian-style Center Hall Colonial Revival and what would she know, right?

Anyhoo, Miss Hudgen’s terraced back yard features a beautifully blue saline swimming pool and spa where she can skinny dip in private after spending the afternoon slapping down the credit card at Fred Segal, a barbecue island, whatever that is, and a cabana where she and boy beau Zac Efron can quietly comb each other’s hair and paint each other’s toe nails in the shade.

If anyone were to ask me, which of course no one did, we think it might have been more financially prudent for young Miss Hudgens to purchase something a bit more modest in price and size. Certainly she could have found a cute three bedroom cottage in a solid Studio City neighborhood for 1.5 million, right? Afterall, the Disney people will eventually stop making High School Musical movies and then what is young Miss Hudgens going to do to make her mortgage? Sing? Pleeze.

Previous to scooping up her own celebrity style spread, young Miss Hudgens shacked up with her parents in the 2,385 square foot North Hollywood house prop records indicate they purchased in September of 2005 for $865,000. It must be kinda surreal to have your teen aged daughter buy a house worth more than three times the value of your own house. Not bad, just strange. Right?

A music producer has sued Vanessa Hudgens for $5 million, claiming the actress and her father have repeatedly violated a contract and failed to pay him his share of her earnings.

Hudgens, one of the stars of Disney’s successful “High School Musical” series, entered into an agreement with producer Johnny Vieira when she was still a minor, the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, states. Vieira claims Hudgens and her father, Greg, sued to get out of the agreement, but have also failed to abide by settlement terms.

An e-mail message seeking comment from Hudgens’ publicist wasn’t immediately returned Tuesday morning.

Vieira is described in the lawsuit as a songwriter and music producer who was “engaged in the business of discovering and developing artists in the music industry” when he entered into an agreement with Hudgens in 2005.

That agreement, Vieira states, called for him to equally share in advances, royalties and merchandising from Hudgens’ career.

That was before she landed a starring role in “High School Musical,” which is scheduled to release its third installment later this year. She has also released a pair of solo albums.

Vieira claims an audit turned up at least two instances where he is owed money, and that Hudgens, 19, has refused to pay him.

He is also suing Greg Hudgens for defamation, claiming he sent an e-mail to others that accused Vieira of being a “predator.”

Hudgens was sued last year by a lawyer who claimed she owed him $150,000. Court records show the lawsuit was settled in January, about a month after a judge ruled that case could go to trial.

They’ve been dating for more than a year, but Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens proved their romance is hotter than ever during an ultra-romantic vacation on the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos. The High School Musical sweethearts escaped to the island paradise on July 6, and stayed at the exclusive, secluded Amanyara Resort on Malcolm’s Road Beach, where villas go for up to $8,000 a night. “They looked like a happy young couple,” says a witness who saw the pair “laughing all the time” and frolicking on the hotel’s beach during their week-long stay. Although Zac, 20, and Vanessa, 19, went away together to be alone, they were friendly to the other tourists who recognized them, including a bunch of young HSM fans. “They were nice to all of the kids who approached them,” a fellow vacationer reveals. “They were a very gracious couple.”
