Victoria Beckham’s look was more ick than slick on an evening out in Manchester last night.

Posh, usually primped and preened to within an inch of her life, was in dire need of a cotton bud as she headed off for dinner with friends.

Not even her giant princess cut diamond stud earrings were enough to distract onlookers from the unsightly grime caught in her ears.

Victoria Beckham and her husband David escaped unscathed following a terrifying car crash in France on Friday. The couple was visiting their home in the village of Bargemon, close to the French Riviera, last week before the soccer star was due to fly to Beijing, China to take part in the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday.

But on the way to Nice airport to catch his plane to China, the pair was involved in a horrific crash, which left their black BMW with a smashed windscreen and extensive damage along the passenger side. David Beckham reportedly smashed the car laterally into a wall – leaving his wife severely shaken.

Beckham was photographed embracing a tearful Victoria in the car and comforting her, before he raced to the departure lounge with her father Tony Adams. Beckham was forced to run to catch his flight, leaving his distraught partner with the wrecked car.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident.

L.A. boutique Kitson just dropped Lauren Conrad’s line. How surprising, right? “Sales were lackluster,” Kitson owner Fraser Ross told us. “Initially it was great.” Ross tried to get Conrad to do a personal appearance in the store but said her people couldn’t figure out a date. “They need to realize it’s no different than selling your album, your TV shows, your movies. You have to keep promoting it.”

Ross also confirmed the store will not carry Victoria Beckham’s dVb menswear line because of dwindling demand. So although yesterday a dVb rep sent us a statement that read, “The dVb men’s collection is on target to launch in stores for holiday 2008 as scheduled,” they won’t launch in Kitson. And when we called the rep back today to find out what stores the line would land in, she was unsure. She nervously said the line is being shopped around to retailers right now. That means it’s unclear which stores will wind up buying it and selling it. That also means it’s possible no stores will buy it at all.

TMZ just reported, “dVb is stripping any mention of Victoria off the [men's] jeans actually to help sales.” But the dVb rep asserts the line will still be called “dVb by Victoria Beckham,” remaining unchanged. Huh. It all smells a bit fishy, no?

It seems the house of dVb is spending a lot of time these days trying to bury negative press. It’s a shame because it sounds like they could use that extra time and man power to get these pants on a sales shelf somewhere.

What birthday gift do you get for the woman who has everything? If you’re David Beckham shopping for wife Victoria, you don’t spring for some fine wine, you pick up the entire winery. To celebrate Posh’s 34th birthday, Becks picked up the tab on a multimillion dollar vineyard in Napa Valley.

Seems like a grand gesture, even by Beckham standards, so what gives? Full Disclosure reports that the vineyard was meant to keep Victoria busy. “David feels like Victoria needs something to do other than shopping and going to parties,” a source told Full Disclosure. “He is hoping she will get into the wine business and settle into some kind of regular routine.”

Another source close to the Beckhams told us having a vineyard is also meant to keep Victoria happy stateside. “Her experience in the States hasn’t been what she hoped for. Her clothing line never took off, she doesn’t have loads of girlfriends,” said the source. “David doesn’t miss the level of fame he had in England, Victoria does.”

VICTORIA BECKHAM is going to attempt to woo U.S. TV audiences into supporting her fashion label by appearing on the OPRAH WINFREY SHOW later this year.

The former Spice Girl has taken up the offer to appear on the talk show in a bid to prove she is not just a soccer star’s wife, reports Britains Sunday Mirror newspaper.

A source tells the publication, “She’s spoken to Oprah’s TV firm Harpo and wants to prove she isn’t just David Beckham’s wife but has a career in fashion.”

The rail-thin former Posh Spice was at STK the other night for a dinner with designer Marc Jacobs, who features her in his ads. “She wouldn’t order anything herself. She wouldn’t address the waiter. She had her assistant order for her,” said our spy. Posh might have suffered from low-blood sugar. “She had to be escorted to the ladies’ room by security, she was so wobbly,” said our witness. But her rep said, “She walked out with her girlfriends arm in arm – not for support but for fun. The rest of it’s not true.”

Team Cruise and Team Beckham reunited on the red carpet last night at the social event of the season, the annual Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala, which drew a who’s who roll call of international stars.

The quartet put aside rumours of a rift as they posed up together at the glamorous event, but in typical fashion, Posh did her best to steal the spotlight in a see-through white Armani dressing coat.

But with her usual bob swept up into a carefully set chignon and heavily painted face, Victoria’s attempt at Old Hollywood glamour was rather too literal, leaving her looking well beyond her 34 years.

And pout-prone Posh appeared more glum than ever – perhaps it was the pressure of competing with a host of Hollywood actress and supermodels that prompted her look of disdain.

Katie Holmes, who also wore Armani, didn’t fare much better in the style stakes, leaving onlookers shocked and awed at her bright orange dress and cobalt blue stiletto combination.

The extravaganza, billed as Manhattan’s rival to the Oscars, marked the opening the museum’s Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy exhibition, a theme that delighted the ever-excitable Mr. Cruise.

“I’ve always just loved comic books,” he said as he arrived. “I dig those characters.”
