A former child actor charged and sentenced last year for assaulting his girlfriend is accused of violating the conditions of his probation by failing to pay for domestic-violence classes, missing daily breathalyzer tests and submitting a positive breath test.

Brian Bonsall, 26, of Boulder — who played Michael J. Fox’s kid brother, Andy Keaton, on the television show “Family Ties” in the 1980s — also “has not been able to secure full-time employment,” according to a probation-violation complaint filed in Boulder District Court.

Bonsall is due to appear in court Wednesday morning on the alleged violations.

As punishment, a probation officer has recommended Bonsall be sentenced to a 60-day term of work release — which allows inmates to leave the Boulder County Jail for work every day and requires them to return at night.

The officer also suggests Bonsall be required to adhere to a “strict sobriety schedule,” attend four Alcoholics Anonymous meetings a week and pay for his violence classes.

Bonsall, who also starred in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” in the 1990s and told the court in September that he’s now in a rock band, was arrested in March 2007 after police said he poured alcohol in his girlfriend’s face as she slept.

He’s also accused of putting his arm around her neck and throwing her into a bed when she tried to leave their apartment on Balsam Avenue in central Boulder.

In September, when Bonsall pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and was sentenced two years probation, he told the court he had been clean for five months and was in rehab. A judge ruled that he and his girlfriend could continue living together.

Bonsall, who graduated from Boulder High School in 2000, has had several alcohol-related run-ins with the law. He’s been ticketed for underage drinking in Broomfield and Boulder counties, and he was stopped by police in 2001 and 2004 on suspicion of drunk driving.
