Hayden Panettiere’s parents are downplaying dad Alan’s arrest for spousal abuse.
“It was all a big misunderstanding,” he and his wife Lesley tell Extra’s Mario Lopez.
Although a police report claims Alan struck Lesley three times (leaving a bruise), the couple insist “nothing actually happened.
“[We] love each other very much and want everyone to know that the matter was completely blown out of proportion,” they tell Extra.
Extra reports that Hayden found out about her dad’s arrest when he called her from jail.
Booked on a charge of felony domestic violence, Alan, 49, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. at the family’s West Hollywood home. They were spotted arguing at a Hollywood charity benefit earlier in the night.
Alan was released from custody on $50,000 bail Monday afternoon.
“I was with him when he was released, and he was cooperative,” Steve Whitmore, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, tells Usmagazine.com. “He was also cooperative while he was in custody. And, when he was arrested, it was without incident.”
