Hugh Jackman was left speechless when he watched surgeons performing brain surgery on a woman who was almost sure to die because she looked like his wife Deborra-Lee Furness. Jackman and The Fountain director Darren Aronofsky were given special access to the surgery as part of their research for the time-traveling epic. And both were stunned by what they witnessed.
Jackman recalls, “I went to see this surgery of a woman who had two children… She was awake for the entire surgery and the lid of her head was off, and the surgeon was taking a tumor out that was the size of a golf ball. He briefed me before, and he said, ‘Look, I’ve got to be honest. Almost definitely this woman’s going to die – it’s a last-ditch effort.’
“In comes the woman and she looks about the same age as my wife, with blonde hair. I don’t remember feeling a fear like that. I thought of my wife dying – I was absolutely petrified.”
