American Idol alums David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell won’t be dueting on any love songs.
A source tells the newest issue of Us Weekly, on stands Wednesday, that the couple split just before Christmas.
“They didn’t want to make a big deal about it,” another insider says of the pair, who started dating in June after Cook, 26, asked out the Season 2 contestant while she was interviewing him on TV.
The reason for the split?
“He has a lot of options and wants to explore them,” the pal tells Us. “He doesn’t want to be tied down.”
As for one tabloid report that the Season 7 winner planned to propose to Caldwell, 26, with a 2- carat Tiffany diamond, the source says, “That rumor was not true. The relationship just sort of dissolved.”
The couple were going strong as recently as last fall.
“We just play the doting boyfriend and girlfriend,” Cook told Us in October of their relationship.
