Lindsay Lohan will struggle through the pain of pregnancy on her new comedy Labor Pains, it has been revealed.

The Mean Girls star will play a personal assistant working in a publishing house who concocts an elaborate plan to keep her malevolent boss from giving her the sack.

Due to begin shooting next week, Labor Pains will see the young actress pretending to be pregnant in order to stay in her job.

And while the scheme helps her remain in gainful employment, it also sees Lady Luck working in her favour in other areas, according to Variety.

TV actors such as Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) and Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live) will star alongside Lohan with Lara Shapiro set to direct.

The feature, previously a Capitol Pictures film, had looked set to remain in development hell after Capitol experienced financial problems, only for Nu Image/Millennium Films’ Avi Lerner to step in and help Overnight Productions’ Rick Schwartz set the project in motion.

“I didn’t know Lindsay before this, but we looked each other in the eye three months ago, and she has done everything I could have asked,” said Schwartz, in reference to the actress’ personal problems which have provoked withdrawals from a number of films.

Having recently shot a guest run on Ugly Betty, Lohan added: “It is a very different role for me and I look forward to the challenges it will present, and I love working on comedies.”

Due to Nu Image/Millennium Films having independent status, the film has been granted a waiver by the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG) to begin shooting even with the threat of an actors’ strike due to ongoing contract negotiations between the SAG and the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
