Jaden Smith wasn’t even born when the original Karate Kid movie was filmed.

But the 11-year-old seems to have had no trouble taking over the role played by Ralph Macchio in a remake of the classic 80s movie.

After four months of training, Jaden showed off his high-kicking karate skills in a photoshoot on The Great Wall Of China.

And it seems that despite his tender age, he has stepped out of the shadow of his famous father – actor Will Smith.

Jaden got his big break when he was picked to star as Smith’s son in The Pursuit Of Happyness four years ago.

And Smith even credited his son with helping him develop as an actor.

‘I started watching him,’ he said. ‘If he decides he wants to get up and walk, he’ll get up and walk. The cameraman will just follow him.

‘But I had my blocking; I knew my left leg was forward. I knew that I was saying it with my left hand every time so in order for them to make the edit, I would do it with my left hand every time.

‘He broke me out of a mechanical space.’

In the photos released by Columbia Pictures, Jaden, who plays Dre, can be seen high-kicking and laughing with his co-stars.
The film, released in June next year, will borrow elements of the original plot.

In it, a bullied youth, played by Jaden, learns to stand up for himself with the help of his eccentric mentor, played by Jackie Chan.
Chan will play Mr Han, based on the character Mr Kesuke Miyagi, which won Pat Morita an Oscar nomination in the original film franchise.
