Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell has been diagnosed with swine flu, the band said in a statement Monday.

As a preventative measure, the singer, his bandmates – Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and A.J. McLean – and their touring crew, who had just returned to the U.S. from Tokyo, were prescribed Tamiflu.

Due to Littrell’s illness, the band cancelled their Monday appearance at New York’s Hard Rock Café for the Pinktober event. The group also canceled their performance on CBS’ Early Show Tuesday morning.

“We were really looking forward to spending time with our closest fans and friends in NYC,” Littrell said in the statement. “I hope we can come back soon and do everything we can to help.”

News of Littrell’s sudden case of H1N1 comes one day before The Backstreet Boys’ new album, “This Is Us.” is released Tuesday.
