Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen launched their new luxury handbag line for their brand The Row with a preview event at Barneys and an exclusive dinner at soon-to-open Upper East Side restaurant Crown.

The Olsens’ line is made from exotic materials including crocodile and python and range from $2,800 to $40,000, but guests received more moderately priced leather mirror cases. Mary-Kate left a little early because she was double-booked hosting another event. Crown, founded by the team behind The Lion, will open in September.

The actress and fashion designer – who, alongside her identical twin sister Mary-Kate, was recently ranked as the 11th richest woman in entertainment with a combined wealth of $100 million – was spotted trying to unsuccessfully get a deal when purchasing some flowers in Hollywood.

An onlooker explained to National Enquirer magazine: “She was checking out flowers at Moe’s Flowers in West Hollywood which were on sale for $12 for 10 plants. But that wasn’t enough for Ashley, who had the nerve to ask, ‘Can I have these for a dollar each?’

“After being told, ‘Sorry, there’s no haggling here’. She replied, ‘But they’re not the finest quality’, while plucking off dead leaves. The guy then insisted Ashley either pay full price or forget it so she coughed up the 12 bucks.”

It could be that the 24-year-old star is saving up for a designer handbag, as she recently admitted she can’t wait to get her hands on a Crocodile Birkin bag made by French luxury group Hermes.

She said: “The next one I want to get is the crocodile Birkin, but that won’t be for a while. Crocodile is my favorite!”

The 23-year-old actress-and-designer was travelling from New York to Los Angeles with her boyfriend, ‘The Hangover’ actor Justin Bartha, when an electrical fire sparked in the cockpit, forcing the pilot to land the aircraft in Virginia.

Publicist Phil Lobel – who was a passenger on the plane – told ET Online the incident was a “harrowing experience” as the fire had caused the windscreen to crack, which “obscured the pilot’s ability to conduct a visual landing”.

Emergency crews met the plane on the runway, where they stabilised the situation before leading the passengers and crew to safety.

According to reports, the passengers – which also included ‘Californication’ actress Pamela Adlon and ‘Jersey Boys’ star Jarrod Spector – bonded and celebrated their safe landing once safely inside the airport.

The group were rebooked onto flights to complete their journey this morning.

Ashley Olsen wants to be a lot of things, but Britney Spears isn’t one of them.

The actress, who graces the cover of Marie Claire’s September issue, admits of the pressures of her childhood stardom: “I look at Britney, and I’m surprised I didn’t end up like her.”

Although she is, in fact, far more put together than the troubled pop star, Olsen did get pretty racy for the photo shoot – in one shot, she rocks nothing but a bra and panties. Between poses at her Greenwich Village townhouse, Ashley spoke about how far she’s come since her days as baby Michelle Tanner on “Full House” – days she doesn’t always remember fondly.

“[Growing up,] it was almost like I was in the Army,” she laments. “School, work, homework, fly to New York, get in at 2 in the morning, do a morning show at 5 a.m., then another one at 7, then a radio interview at 10.”

Ashley now has a more appealing schedule, focused around her clothing line, The Row, and her boyfriend, actor Justin Bartha.
She’s finally got it, dude.

The duo made their first public appearance together Monday night at the Cinema Society screening of “Trumbo,” about blacklisted Hollywood writer Dalton Trumbo, who penned “Spartacus” and “Roman Holiday.” “They huddled close together most of the night,” said our spy. The pint-size twin and Bartha partied after at Tribeca Cinemas with Josh Lucas, Amy Sacco, Kelly Bensimon and her date Maximiliano Palacio, and new lovebirds Joan Allen and Shawn Diamond, who locked lips on the red carpet.
