High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale looks raring to go in her new project – revealing her toned and tanned body on the set of cheerleading drama Hellcats.

In the show, the 24-year-old star plays Sierra Sloan, the captain of competitive cheerleading squad.

Described as ‘peppy and petite’ with ‘fierce intensity’, Sierra clashes with the star of the show Marty Perkins, played by Aly Michalka.

Filming early this morning in Vancouver, Canada, Tisdale was preparing for one of the more physical scenes of the highschool drama.

She has clearly been getting herself into shape, and her enthusiasm for the role can be seen by the number of exclamation marks in her regular Twitter updates, the last of which – before this morning’s shoot – being: ‘Hellcats!! Shooting my big cheer number today!!!!’

Despite commenting on early starts and long hours (‘Haven’t been up this early in a looonnng time’), she also admits that it’s ‘so much fun’.

The new show, being filmed for the CW Television Network, revolves around Marty – a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who loses her education scholarship and joins the Hellcats in a bid to stay at school.

Ashley’s Sierra clashes with the ‘wicked smart’ Marty but then realises that the squad needs her to win.

The show is due to be aired next year.

The actress will return to the Disney channel for the film ‘Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure’, a spin-off from the original ‘High School Musical’ franchise. The movie is set to be filmed this summer and will be released next year.

Ashley, 24, is set also be executive producer of the movie, and will be the only returning original member of the ‘High School Musical’ cast.

The plot will see Sharpay and her dog, Boi, make their way from fictional school East High to Broadway after being spotted by talent scouts, and while she is trying to make her way as a theatre star, she will meet her match in a rival starlet.

Gary Marsh, chief creative officer, of Disney Channels Worldwide, said in a statement: “In Sharpay, Ashley Tisdale brought to life one of the most memorable comedic characters we’ve seen in years. This movie captures the absolutely perfect next chapter in Sharpay’s life, as she tries to cultivate the humanity buried, deep, deep within her – a challenging and hilarious endeavour.”

Ashley’s last Disney film, 2008′s ‘High School Musical 3: Senior Year’, took more than $250 million at the box office worldwide.

The young actress has since starred in ‘Aliens In The Attic’ as well as releasing two pop albums, ‘Headstrong’ in 2007 and ‘Guilty Pleasure’ in 2009.
