He took over nightlife impresario Scott Sartiano’s and Richie Akiva’s about-to-open Chelsea restaurant, The Darby, and invited friends including Alicia Keys, Serena Williams, Kanye West and Sean “Diddy” Combs to toast Beyonce . . . while DJ Cassidy took over the decks.
A spy reports, “Jay brought a six-layer cake out for B, they were really affectionate.
Cassidy played Stevie Wonder’s ‘Happy Birthday.’ The party went on until 6 a.m. Both Jay and B’s moms were there, but there was no sign of her father or her sister. Diddy was the last to leave. Jay filled the room with orchids.”
The eccentric singer reportedly splashed out thousands of dollars on the raunchy gift and a matching underwear set, which she presented to her while singing ‘Happy Birthday’.
A source said: “Gaga wanted to give her something special. The whip was made out of hundreds of diamonds and leather.
“When Beyonce received it she squealed with excitement.”
The ‘Poker Face’ star handed over the saucy gifts backstage at Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z’s concert in Detroit last week, with the ’99 Problems’ hitmaker also making an effort to mark his spouse’s birthday.
The source added to The Sun newspaper: “The dressing room was decorated with balloons and banners and a lot of champagne had been put on too.”
Lady Gaga’s eccentric present was likely to be inspired from her prison-themed music video for single ‘Telephone’ – which starred Beyonce.
The duo dressed in sexy leather and studded outfits for the shoot, with Gaga wearing metal chains and Beyonce sporting a tight black jumpsuit and chauffeur’s hat.
Always at the top of her fashion game, Beyonce Knowles has clearly embraced the latest trends for prints on her Mediterranean cruise.
But while anyone brave enough to wear such a loud design would probably tone it down with a pair of plain shorts or trousers, Beyonce decided to team three different prints together as she stopped off in St Tropez.
However, given her superstardom, maybe the singer is just one of the few people who can pull off the clashing ensemble.
Joining her husband at the exclusive Club 55 on the French Riviera, Beyonce stopped traffic in her eye-catching ensemble of eye-wateringly, tight gold and burgundy shorts, an embellished ikat-print shirt, leopard-print bikini top and bag.
While the combination may not be to everyone’s taste, individually, each piece is quite on-trend.
The ikat print is a summer favourite, and leopard print is set to be huge this autumn.
As for the shorts, this pair is unlike any we’ve ever seen. The clashing patterns are bold and brash, and as they are both tight and high-waisted, highly unforgiving. It is testament to the 28-year-old’s toned body that her curves still, somehow, look good.
The couple have been cruising around the Med over the past few weeks in the $350,000-a-week, rented 180-foot yacht named The Altitude.
The Benetti, Italian-made yacht includes six cabins, a gym and a Jacuzzi.
The 40-year-old rapper would love to have children with wife Beyonce Knowles after being inspired by close friends Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, who have kids Apple, five, and four-year-old Moses together.
He said: “They are a really cool family with beautiful kids, who happen to be good at the jobs they do.”
Asked if he wanted something similar himself, the ’99 Problems’ star – who says Apple and Moses call him ‘Uncle Jay’ – told Q magazine: “Kids? Of course.”
Though the music mogul – who dealt drugs in his native Marcy, New York, when he was 13 – is now close friends with the privately-educated Coldplay frontman, he admits it wouldn’t have been the case if they had met earlier in life.
He said: “What would I have thought of Chris at 16? That’s a different scenario. He couldn’t have walked through Marcy. I was a different person then – I wasn’t open to the world and different cultures.
“I would have been, ‘Yo! Who are you? Give me your money.’ You couldn’t have a guy like Chris walking through Marcy. He’d have got robbed. At best.”
Beyonce has also admitted she wanted to try for a baby this year.
Last July, the ‘Crazy in Love’ singer hinted she may get pregnant once her year-long tour was over.
She said: “I think I’ll have a child when it’s supposed to happen. Right now, I’ll be on tour for a year and, you know…”
In January Beyoncé announced that she was taking a well deserved break from showbusiness. ‘It’s definitely time to take a break, to recharge my batteries,’ she said at the time. ‘I’d like to take about six months and not go into the studio. I need to just live life, to be inspired by things again.’
But this week she has re-emerged on the scene with a bang, announcing the release of her new single Why Don’t You Love Me on August 29th, and starring in the new advertising campaign for her Dereon fall fashion line.
The singer is almost unrecognizable in a platinum wig and covered in painted-on tattoos. She has described the new campaign as ’1960s pin-up girl meets futuristic biker chick.’
Beyoncé appears to have embraced one of the top trends of 2010: body art. First seen in the Spring Summer 2010 Chanel ready-to-wear show, temporary tattoos have been a hit with celebrities over summer.
But in true Beyoncé style, she has taken it to the next level with customized artwork covering her legs, arms and back. The tattoos include chains, spiders, wings, skulls and what appears to be a spine that runs the length of her back.
Dereon’s Fall line includes some dramatic studded leggings, lace biker shorts, fierce shoulders and high-waisted hot pants.
The campaign was photographed by Tony Duran and styled by Beyoncé and mother Tina Knowles.
After completing an incredible 110 city tour for I Am… Sasha Fierce in 2009, the hard-working Single Ladies singer decided to to take an extended break from work.
‘When I got home,’ she told USA Today in January, ‘I wrote out a contract with myself. I made a list of everything I want to do that has nothing to do with music.
‘Well, some of it does. But I promised myself that I would not go back on tour or in the studio until I finished these things.’
Her to-do list included: ‘random things. I want to go to restaurants, maybe take a class, see some movies and Broadway shows,’ and spending time with five-year-old nephew, Daniel.
But she didn’t exactly stick to her ‘contract’, returning briefly in March to record and film a video for Telephone with Lady Gaga. The epic clip, which was banned from several TV stations for its explicit content, has received over 74.4 million hits on YouTube.
But working in the middle of her self-imposed holiday has paid off for the savvy star, as the video has earned her five MTV Video Music Awards nominations. Beyoncé and Gaga have earned nods in the best pop video, female video, collaboration, choreography and art direction categories in the awards show to be held September 12th.
The Crazy In Love star launched her own fashion line through the brand, and now she’s capitalizing on its success.
Beyonce and her mum Tina, who co-founded the company, are planning to launch a line of homeware – with items for sale set to include sheets and pillowcases.
In a statement, Tina Knowles says, “Both Beyonce and I are huge fans of home furnishings and try to stay on top of this ever-changing market. As someone who has also realized many interior-design projects, I am so excited to expand our House of Dereon and Dereon brands in this category. The thought that we would have something to do in brightening up someone’s home, especially bedrooms, is truly wonderful.”
Dressing like Daisy Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard appears to be the latest fashion trend for celebrities these days and Beyonce has proved to be no exception as she donned a checkered shirt and tiny denim hotpants for her new video.
The singer released a teaser trailer for the video for her album track Why Don’t You Love Me yesterday which showed her enviable figure in the skimpy shorts and shirt tied sexily around her waist.
Starring as ‘B.B Homemaker’, Beyonce, who also wore a red bandana round her head, gets oiled up as she plays mechanic.
She lifts the roof of her 1960s car to a plume of smoke, grabs a spanner and a manual as she attempts to repair her broken vehicle.
Beyonce, who gave the Daisy Duke look an even sexier twist by wearing stockings and red high heeled shoes, is also seen changing a tire before tottering into a house.
The scene then cuts to her walking through a living room holding a sign across her body that reads, ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?’
The song, which was written by Beyonce and her sister Solange, is a bonus track on the re-release of her 2008 album ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’.
Although it wasn’t released as a single, it got to number one on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart more than a year after the album’s original release.
It was also her her thirteenth number-one hit on that chart.
But it was her outfit that drew the most attention, as she followed in the footsteps of LeAnn Rimes, Cameron Diaz and Jessica Simpson in adopting this latest fashion craze.
Of course, Jessica, 29, was the first to start the trend when she starred as Daisy Duke in a film remake of the popular 1980s TV series in 2005 but the denim hot pants weren’t then confined to the back of her wardrobe and she has since worn them on several occasions since.
More recently, singer LeAnn Rimes, 27, was spotted having lunch with her actor boyfriend Eddie Cibrian in Los Angeles sporting denim hotpants and a red checkered shirt.
Cameron Diaz, 37, joined in the Dukes of Hazzard fun as she sported a similar outfit on the set of her new film Bad Teacher.
The fashion for short denim cut offs – or Daisy Dukes as they have now been nicknamed, has become very popular recently and Beyonce didn’t keep hers confined to a video shoot either as she was spotted wearing hers at the Coachella festival in Los Angeles recently.
They have also been seen on other celebrities such as Sienna Miller, Peaches Geldof, Daisy Lowe and Jennifer Aniston.
Beyonce shocked the crowd at California’s Coachella festival on Friday by joining husband Jay-Z on stage – and wearing a t-shirt covered with obscenities.
The Crazy In Love hitmaker was a surprise guest at the annual music event, teaming up with her partner during his set.
But fans were stunned to see the clean-cut pop star showing off a shirt laced with swear words.
The scrawlings included ‘Punk a** Mother f**ker’ and ‘Girls On Top’.
