The South African-born actress is being lined up for the role, which tells the tale of the princess’ relationship with former bodyguard Ken Wharfe, who is to be played by Ewan McGregor.

The movie will be produced by BAFTA award-winning Stephen Evans, who wants to make a film based on Wharfe’s controversial book ‘Diana: Closely Guarded Secret’, detailing the eight years he spent with the princess – who died in 1997 – as her personal protection officer.

Yesterday it emerged that film company Pathe are hoping to make their own biopic of the princess with Keira Knightley in the lead role.

Pathe are hoping for a 2011 release to mark what would have been the princess’ 50th birthday.

An insider told the Daily Mail: “There’s a buzz about this. Pathe also made ‘The Duchess’, which starred Keira as Georgiana, the fifth Duchess of Devonshire – the great-great-great-great aunt of Diana – and controversially used an image of Diana to trail the movie.

“They believe the footage made the film a big hit in America where Diana still has a loyal following.”

Meanwhile, Dame Helen Mirren – who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in 2006 film ‘The Queen’ – has been named as a potential actress to play Diana’s mother Francis Shand Kydd.

She previously said she relies on six meals a day to stay slim but now Charlize Theron’s true diet secrets have been revealed, after the 34-year-old actress was spotted clutching a box of meal replacement shakes.

Dressed in a loose-fitting white shirt and skinny jeans, Theron made no attempt to hide the diet aid as she stepped out in Los Angeles yesterday.

Lean Body meal replacement shakes, from Labrada nutrition, contains high protein levels but low amounts of carbohydrates, to ‘make it easy to stay in great shape, and perform at your peak’, according to the company’s website.

The shakes, which can be mixed with water to make a ‘delicious drink’, were even awarded an American Tasting Institute Gold Medal.

While Theron does not appear to need to lose any weight, she is one of a number of celebrities who rely on meal replacement shakes when they feel like they need to shed a few pounds.

Britney Spears has also been reported to use the diet aid to lose weight.

Oscar-winning actress Theron revealed recently that despite having a seemingly perfect life, she often had ‘fat days’ like every other woman.

She said: ‘Life is just as complicated for me as it is for any other woman out there and I wake up just like ever other woman sometimes and can’t fit into my jeans and feel fat and ugly and have bad days.’

Theron had previously revealed she used a diet method of eating six small meals a day – also known as ‘grazing’ – to ensure she never felt hungry.
She explained: ‘I’m careful to eat a healthy balance of foods, but I eat six small meals a day. ‘If I want a burger, rather than deprive myself I’ll have a quarter of one.

But Theron can be safe in the knowledge that whatever her size, her fans will still love her.

It was announced yesterday that the actress will be presented with the Decade of Hotness award at Spike TV’s Guys Choice next month.

Theron, who has played the traditional love interest in films including Hancock and Sweet November, as well as disguising her looks to play serial killer Aileen Wournos in Monster, will be honored at the ceremony alongside stars including Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Brooklyn Decker.

Theron, 34, reportedly decided to break up with the Irish actor after they spent the Christmas holidays in Mexico.

“They had become more like brother and sister than lovers,” a friend of the actress’ told the Mail. “It was she who ended it.’

The South African star is set to remain in the couple’s Hollywood Hills home while Townsend has moved into their Malibu beach abode.

The duo met in 2001 on the set of a thriller called “Trapped.”

Theron, who grew up on a farm near Johannesburg, was hawking a trip to South Africa for the World Cup, and included the Mandela session at the OneXOne gala in San Francisco last week.
