Christina Aguilera has been given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a sporting event after mixing up the words to the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The bosses of Minor League baseball team the Brooklyn Cyclones have invited the singer to perform at any of their home games this summer.

Aguilera was heavily criticized after she messed up one of the lines of the National Anthem before the Super Bowl in Texas.

The Cyclones are the New York Mets’ farm team.

A statement from general manager Steve Cohen reads, “When a player makes a mistake, they usually don’t get a shot at redemption, but with a singer, that’s a different story.”

Christina Aguilera says she flubbed a line as she belted out the national anthem at the start of the Super Bowl on Sunday night after getting lost in the moment and losing her place.

“I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through,” she said in a statement after the performance.

When she was supposed to sing the line “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming,” she instead repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation.

She sang, “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming,” repeating and mangling an earlier lyric, with the word `watched’ instead of `hailed’ and `reaming’ instead of `gleaming.’

The mistake immediately set social networks abuzz with people commenting on the error.

She’s not the first person to mess up the lines of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” In 2001, Macy Gray was famously booed for her off-kilter rendition of the national anthem.

She garbled the words at the Pro Football Hall of Fame exhibition game in Canton, Ohio, her home state. She later told The Associated Press: “That was definitely life’s most embarrassing moment.”

And in December in Kansas City before a game between the Chiefs and the Denver Broncos, Mike Eli of the Eli Young Band flubbed up the lines of the song so badly that he had to start over.

Aguilera, who took the stage in a black dress, was returning to the Super Bowl after being one of the performers during the halftime show in Atlanta in 2000.

After it was announced that Aguilera would be singing the national anthem for the 2011 Super Bowl, she said in a news release that she had been performing the song since she was 7 and was “excited to be part of such an iconic event.”

The five-time Grammy award winning singer will be making an encore at the NFL championship. She was part of the halftime show during the 2000 Super Bowl.

The NFL and Fox made the announcement Monday.

Other stars to have sung the national anthem at the Super Bowl include Carrie Underwood, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Mariah Carey and Beyonce Knowles.

The previously announced halftime show will feature The Black Eyed Peas.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will play the Green Bay Packers at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for the NFL title.

Julianne Hough, the 22-year-old American singer and current girlfriend of the television personality Ryan Seacrest, found herself in a confrontation with Christina Aguilera at a pre-Golden Globes party on Friday, according to E! Entertainment. The argument reportedly took place at an event at Soho House in West Hollywood.

Other attendees of the bash included Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Colin Firth. An eyewitness speaking to E! said that Aguilera was not pleased to see Hough at the party, adding, “Christina really got in her face” and that she “unleashed a verbal barrage at Hough”.

E! also quoted onlookers as saying Aguilera even grabbed the 22-year-old and that before the two could be separated she “threatened to torpedo Hough’s burgeoning country singing career”. The pair worked together on the movie ‘Burlesque’ a matter of months ago and the reason behind the fracas is not yet understood.

Hough, a former professional on Dancing With The Stars, showed up at last night’s Golden Globes sporting her familiar blonde hair, after a brief stint as a brunette. Speaking to People Magazine she said, “The brown was for a movie so I’m back to being me. It’s just more Julianne”.

British TV watchdog officials have officially launched a formal investigation to determine whether racy performances by Christina Aguilera and Rihanna on reality show THE X FACTOR were too risque for its family audience.

The pop stars were invited to appear on the grand final of Simon Cowell’s U.K. talent show on December 11, 2010 to collaborate with two of the remaining contestants.

After their duets, both singers took the stage to belt out their own songs, but their saucy routines left viewers at home furious – and media regulators at the U.K.’s Office of Communications were bombarded with more than 2,750 complaints by those angry the performances were allowed to be shown before the 9PM watershed.

The public outcry has now prompted Ofcom executives to look into claims Aguilera and Rihanna’s appearances violated the Broadcasting Code, which states that “children must be protected by appropriate scheduling from material that is unsuitable for them”.

The confirmation of the Ofcom investigation on Sunday comes days after British politicians criticised watchdog bosses for failing to take swift action over the complaints.

Aguilera has already defended her sexy moves, which saw her cavort around the stage with a group of female dancers, as she performed a track from her new movie musical Burlesque.

She said, “I don’t think there is such a thing as too raunchy when it comes to the art form of burlesque. It’s very empowering to women to feel confident in their own skin and in their bodies and this represents that.

“Everyone in the spotlight is judged and there are many opinions out there but I stick true to what I believe in.”

Christina Aguilera may strip down to her skivvies in “Burlesque,” but the singer is furious about a set of risqué photos circulating the web that expose her in some rather compromising positions.

A rep for the 29-year-old singer spoke out Wednesday after a series of semi-nude pictures of Aguilera made the rounds online.

“The photos of Christina Aguilera being leaked to the press were illegally obtained by a hacker who tapped into Christina’s personal stylist’s account,” the singer’s rep tells the Daily News. “The photos were taken in the privacy of Ms. Aguilera’s home and were used only in a personal exchange between the star and her stylist.”

It remains unknown when the photographs were taken, but two images show the singer wearing only jewel-encrusted strands across her body while holding a pair of silver pasties over her breasts.

Other photos show the braless singer wearing sheer oversized shirts atop patterned leggings in what appears to be a walk-in closet.

Aguilera’s platinum blond hair falls just above her shoulders (perhaps from a lack of extensions?), while her face is turned away in most of the images.

“We are attempting to determine the identity of the hackers and will pursue them aggressively,” her rep adds. “Their conduct is reprehensible.”

In October, Aguilera filed for divorce from husband Jordan Bratman, with whom she has a 2 ½-year-old son. She is currently dating Matthew Rutler, a set assistant she met while working on her upcoming film.

During Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera’s rapid rise to fame in the late ’90s, both stars were subjected to endless scrutiny and speculation that they upgraded their physical assets.

Now, new photos may provide confirmation – at least for one of them.

Aguilera, in Tokyo Tuesday to promote her film “Burlesque,” raised her arm to greet spectators, revealing a scar in her right armpit.

The incision is a common sign of transaxillary endoscopic breast augmentation, according to the Daily Mail, where implants are inserted through the armpit.

The 29-year-old mother of one has never directly commented on the rumors that she may have had a boob job, but Aguilera seemed hardly concerned at the event about potentially revealing her secret.

The singer, who turns 30 later this month, happily posed with a birthday cake while her co-stars, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet, clapped.

A rep for Aguilera has not yet commented on the Daily Mail’s claim.
