Officials from the Beverly Hills Police Department have confirmed David Arquette was not under the influence when he was involved in a car crash last Friday.

The Scream actor was left bruised and bleeding after he swerved his Cadillac into oncoming traffic in West Hollywood and collided with another vehicle.

Arquette, who spent much of January in rehab in a bid to kick his alcohol addiction, suffered minor injuries and claimed he refused to allow doctors to prescribe him any pain pills as he continued his quest for sobriety.

And police spokesman Lieutenant Tony Lee has now ruled out any suggestion that the star was intoxicated during the accident.

Lee tells People.com, “No alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash whatsoever. It appears that the accident will be Mr. Arquette’s fault for driving on the wrong side of the roadway.”

Arquette was on his way to the airport at the time of the crash to fly to Las Vegas to attend a restaurant opening. He cancelled the trip as a result of the incident.

David Arquette was in a car accident in Beverly Hills on Friday afternoon but was not seriously hurt, his publicist said.

The 39-year-old actor was “OK” after the collision and was on his way to being treated, publicist Cindy Guagenti told The Associated Press in an e-mail.

A Beverly Hills Fire Department dispatcher said a head-on collision happened on Doheny Drive, just north of Santa Monica Boulevard along the city’s border with West Hollywood. She could not provide details on the victims or their status. She declined to give her name.

Celebrity website TMZ reported that Arquette was in a head-on collision at about 2 p.m., and posted pictures that showed the actor lying on a patch of roadside grass next to a pair of vehicles with damage on their front bumpers and airbags deployed.

Video posted on the site showed paramedics and firefighters putting a man who appears to be Arquette on a stretcher and lifting him into an ambulance.

Arquette and wife Courteney Cox announced that they were separating in October.

The pair met when they appeared in the film “Scream” in 1996, and are co-starring in the fourth installment of the horror series due out later this year. They have a 6-year-old daughter together.

Arquette has also starred in the films “Never Been Kissed” and “3000 Miles to Graceland.”

Actor David Arquette has opened up about a family intervention which sparked his post-Christmas rehab stint, revealing he arrived home from a Christmas party trip to Miami, Florida to find his actress sister Patricia and estranged wife Courteney Cox at his bedside as he awoke from a nap.

Arquette checked into rehab at the beginning of January and has now spoken about the moment he knew it was time to get sober during a taped chat with Oprah Winfrey, which will air on TV in America on Thursday.

He explains, “I came back from Miami and I’d taken a nap and I woke up and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed.

“Courteney had a cup of coffee and I was like, ‘What are you two doing here together?’ Like I already knew… And Courteney’s like, ‘Do you mind coming out into the living room for a second?’

“I peep my head around the corner and my best friend… is there and my business partner and some guy I don’t know, and I go, ‘What up turkeys? I guess this is my intervention.’”

That took place on December 30, 2010 but Arquette reveals he still attended a New Year’s Eve party the following night – because he had promised he would be there. But he didn’t drink.

He adds, “I was sober at the New Year’s event. It was at this club I was putting on… I had already been sober and so I went there because it was something I was planning on doing and I wanted to see if I could do it sober, if I could still entertain and dance around. And I could and I had a great time.”

In the hard-hitting chat with Winfrey, Arquette admits he drank his first beer when he was four and already had a “serious” drinking problem by the time he started high school. He also told the talk show host he stole marijuana from his father when he was eight.

Arquette’s sisters Patricia and Rosanna will be part of the show when it airs.

The actor – who split from his wife Courteney Cox late in October last year – left the Betty Ford Center in California after four weeks of treatment for “alcohol and other issues”.

A representative for the ‘Scream’ star said yesterday: “He has completed treatment and has left the facility. He’s feeling good and he’s ready to move forward.”

A source said: “He is very committed to his sobriety and a changed person because of his experience. He realises now how out of control things got and doesn’t want that to happen again.”

David, 39, had been spotted out partying on a number of occasions after his separation from ‘Friends’ actress Courteney – with whom he has six-year-old daughter Coco – and admitted in a frank interview he felt depressed and had been “drinking a lot”.

He said: “I’ve been drinking a lot. But I don’t want to go into all that, because it’s really a personal, traumatic thing.

“Everybody’s worried and concerned about me. When I drink, I become a maniac. This is the hardest thing anyone has to go through. You wake up and the reality hits you.”

After he entered the facility on January 1, Courteney publicly gave her full support to David’s decision to go to rehab.

She said in a statement: “I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life. I love and support him.”

Actor David Arquette, the estranged husband of former “Friends” star Courteney Cox, has checked into rehab to deal with alcohol and depression issues, according to news reports on Sunday.

Arquette, 39, and Cox, 46, announced in October that they were undergoing a trial separation after 11 years and one daughter together, but still loved each other “deeply.”

Since then, both have been linked to other people, while Arquette has been unusually open about his marital woes and his subsequent sexual and drinking activities.

People magazine said Cox was supportive of her husband’s decision to get help. “I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life,” it quoted Cox as saying. “I love and support him.”

The couple met on the set of the 1996 horror film “Scream,” and married three years later.

But while Cox enjoyed a red-hot decade-long run on “Friends” as the fussy domestic diva Monica, Arquette failed to capitalize on the commercial success of the “Scream” series and on the critical acclaim for his 2001 Holocaust drama “The Grey Zone.”

The couple will reunite on screen in April when “Scream 4″ is due to hit theaters.

The actor, who split with Courteney Cox in October, was spotted looking a little wobbly and wearing a circus outfit in Miami Beach on Wednesday night.

Accompanied by midgets and his pal and business partner Jeff Beacher, Arquette hit club Liv at the Fontainebleau, as well as a party thrown by millionaire Miami man about town Wayne Boich.

A source said, “Arquette came to the party dressed as a clown. People thought he was the hired entertainment until he started hitting on their girlfriends.”

A rep for Arquette said: “He was in a tux and tails not a clown and he said he didn’t hit on anyone.”

The Hollywood stars announced in October that they were taking a break after 11 years of marriage to work on their personal problems.

Arquette subsequently went public with his troubles on the radio airwaves, telling his pal Howard Stern the former Friends star had tired of his immaturity.

He also confirmed rumours he had slept with aspiring actress Jasmine Waltz after the separation, and confessed live on air he hadn’t been intimate with Cox in “like four months”.

The Scream actor opened up about his emotions on air again on Wednesday, admitting the love split has left him a wreck.

When asked by Stern if he’s “having a nervous breakdown”, he replied, “I believe so.”

Arquette also revealed he’s turned to a psychiatrist to discuss his issues in weekly sessions, adding, “Everybody is worried and concerned about me.”

And he’s been drowning his sorrows with alcohol, confessing he made a fool out of himself at Adam Sandler’s recent holiday party.

He said, “I was a little wasted. Someone says ‘Hi David!’, and I said, ‘Hi Sean! Then I realised it was Tom Cruise. And his beautiful wife (Katie Holmes) was there. Tom was cool about it… I was so embarrassed. I was like ‘I gotta get the f**k out of here.’”

But the cringe-worthy incident has made Arquette vow to turn his life around and stop drinking so he can win back the mother of his little girl, Coco: “I’ve been drinking a lot because I’m heartbroken. It’s really a personal, traumatic thing. When I drink, I become a maniac. When you wake up and reality hits you, it’s hard.

“(Cox) didn’t want to be my mother. But I kind of need a mother… I want love in my life. I need love in my life.”

Despite the drama over their split, Courteney Cox and David Arquette still “clearly have a lot of affection for each other,” say onlookers at the Old Navy Rock + EBowl Event on Saturday in Studio City, Calif.

Cox hosted the event for the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, which fights the debilitating skin disease, at bowling venue Pinz.

A source said: “David arrived first, and Courteney and their daughter Coco came about 15 minutes later. They all hugged hello and then Coco ran to go bowling. David and Courteney later came up to the gift shop and picked out clothes for Coco together. They actually seemed very affectionate, David was calling Courteney ‘Boo.’ ”

This is the first time that the pair have been seen together at a public event since they announced their separation last month.

David Arquette made an in-person appearance on the Howard Stern Show this morning to set the record straight about his separation from wife Courteney Cox, the media, women, and about the emotional turmoil of his life lately. Surprises filled the interview, including more shocking revelations and some wild dancing!

The entire hour-long interview can be seen starting October 28 only on Howard TV On Demand and will be available for about three weeks. More info at www.howard.tv.
