The billionaire property developer Donald Trump has bought up hundreds of acres on the northeast coast of Scotland, best known to movie-lovers as the setting for the 1983 classic film “Local Hero.” And like the American oil tycoon played by Burt Lancaster, he needs to buy out a few more locals to make the deal come true. In a land swimming with golf courses, Trump is going to build two more – alongside a 450-room hotel and 1,500 luxury homes. The trouble is, the land he purchased occupies one of Europe’s most environmentally sensitive stretches of coast, described by one leading scientist as Scotland’s Amazon rain forest. And the local residents don’t want it destroyed.

After the Scottish Government overturns its own environmental laws to give Trump the green light, the stage is set for an extraordinary summer of discontent, as the bulldozers spring into action. Water and power is cut off, land disputes erupt, and some residents have thousands of tons of earth piled up next to their homes. Complaints go ignored by the police, who instead arrest the film’s director, Anthony Baxter. Local exasperation comes to a surreal head as the now “Dr” Trump scoops up an honorary doctorate from a local university, even as his tractors turn wild, untouched dunes into fairways.

Told entirely without narration, You’ve Been Trumped captures the cultural chasm between the glamorous, jet setting and media savvy Donald Trump and a deeply rooted Scottish community, whose local dialect demands a liberal use of subtitles. What begins as an often amusing clash of world-views grows increasingly bitter and disturbing.

In the latest round in the war between Donald Trump and a growing list of the heaviest hitters in show business, the real-estate mogul and “Celebrity Apprentice” host fired back at David Letterman over the late-night host’s on-air suggestion that Trump is a racist.

In a letter he sent to the gap-toothed comic on Friday, Trump canceled an appearance on “Late Show With David Letterman” and lambasted Dave for saying Trump’s prolonged attacks on President Obama had begun to “smack of racism.”

“I was disappointed to hear the statements you made about me last night on your show that I was a ‘racist,’ ” Trump wrote to Letterman. “In actuality, nothing could be further from the truth and there is nobody who is less of a racist than Donald Trump.”

He continued: “Based upon your statements, and despite the fact that we have always done so well together, especially in your ratings, I am canceling my May 18th appearance on your show.

“Additionally,” Trump wrote, “please inform your staff that I will likewise not do the ‘top ten’ list that they had been trying to set up.”

On his show Thursday night, Letterman discussed with guest “Dr. Phil” McGraw Trump’s persistent questioning of whether Obama is an American citizen and demeaning his qualifications for getting into Harvard Law School.
“It’s all fun, it’s all a circus, it’s all a rodeo until it starts to smack of racism. And then it’s no longer fun,” said Letterman.

Letterman also said that if Trump comes on his show again, “he ought to be prepared to apologize.” Trump’s smackdown of Letterman follows tongue-lashings he gave Jerry Seinfeld and Robert De Niro after they similarly objected to his questioning of Obama’s birth certificate.

A rep for Letterman declined to comment.

Donald Trump returned fire at Robert De Niro yesterday on “Fox & Friends,” calling him “not the brightest bulb on the planet.” Trump said by phone, “I like [De Niro's] acting, but . . . we’re not dealing with Albert Einstein.”

De Niro appeared to knock Trump during a Saturday Tribeca Film Festival panel, hosted by NBC’s Brian Williams, when he said, “I won’t mention names, but certain people in the news . . . they’re making statements about people that they don’t even back up.” Although De Niro never used Trump’s name, Williams filled in the blanks that he meant The Donald’s stance on where President Obama was born. Trump responded, “[De Niro] can say what he wants, but the fact is this guy has not revealed his birth certificate.”

As he revs up for a possible presidential bid, Donald Trump has been invited to lead the pack at the Indianapolis 500 on May 29.

The real-estate mogul and “Celebrity Apprentice” star has been asked to drive the Chevrolet Camaro SS pace car by Indianapolis Motor Speedway president and CEO Jeff Belskus. A source told us, “It is an incredible honor.”

Trump plans to decide by June whether to join the field of GOP contenders competing in 2012. We can’t imagine The Donald being in a race that he won’t try to win.

Real estate tycoon Donald Trump may shift his eye from the boardroom to the Oval Office.

The “Apprentice” mogul confirmed to “Extra” that he’s thinking about tossing his hat into the ring in the 2012 election. “I am seriously considering running,” said the Donald.

“I hate what’s happening to our country,” Trump told “Extra.” “Our country is being ridiculed all over the world.”

If Sarah Palin decides to run, the mogul thinks she’d be a worthy opponent, saying, “I like Sarah Palin. I respect Sarah Palin.”

Property mogul-turned-reality TV star Donald Trump is seriously considering running for U.S. president in 2012, because he wants to show the world America is not a country “led by fools”.

The businessman admits there is some truth to rumors of his political aspirations and he’s mulling over the idea of entering the race for the White House when current leader Barack Obama’s first term in office is up in two years’ time.

In an interview on Good Morning America, he says, “I am thinking about things. I’m looking at this country and what’s happened in terms of respect. And the respect for this country is just not there.

“I have many people from China that I do business with; they laugh at us. They feel we’re fools, and almost being led by fools. And they can’t believe what they’re getting away with.

“I’d love to see some positive things for this country. When people say they don’t respect our country… We cannot let the rest of the world beat us up, we’re like a whipping post right now.”

If Trump does decide to launch a bid for the presidency, he will stay true to his current political allegiance and run as a Republican – and he insists he’d be willing to stand against former 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, should she announce her own intentions to run for office once again.

He adds, “I’ve seen what she’s done. Do not underestimate her. I would take her on. Don’t get me wrong, I like her, but I’d take her on.”
But Trump will be keeping the media guessing about whether he will run for president until next summer: “I’d make a decision probably by June.”

Donald Trump is considering swapping property for politics – he is “absolutely thinking about” running for President of the United States in 2012.

The billionaire business mogul revealed on Tuesday he’s eyeing a career change and dreams of taking over the White House from current leader Barack Obama, because he’s so worried about the state of the country’s manufacturing industry.

He tells Fox News, “I’ve had so many people over the years ask me to do that. And for the first time in my life, I am absolutely thinking about it.”

But Trump fears his political ambitions may never come to fruition.

He adds, “I don’t know that I’ll do it. It’s probable that I won’t do it, but I can tell you, I’m thinking about it. Somebody has to do something. We are losing this country.”

Real estate tycoon-turned-reality TV star Donald Trump has told troubled Lindsay Lohan she’ll have to be 100 per cent healthy before he’ll consider her as a contestant on his Celebrity Apprentice show.

The businessman, who fronts the programme, reveals Lohan’s people have been in touch about landing the actress a spot on the next season of the show now she’s out of jail and almost clear of court-ordered rehab following a probation violation.

And Trump admits he’ll consider the idea if he deems Lohan well enough to compete.

He tells Extra, “We haven’t made a decision. We just want her to be 100 percent, get better and be strong.”
