“Gossip Girl” on-again lovers Jessica Szohr and Ed Westwick spent hours holed up in a Chicago hotel racking up a $800 room-service bill — ignoring frantic publicists phoning and banging on their door.

The together-again couple had such a love-in at the Hard Rock Hotel during last weekend’s Lollapalooza festival that they didn’t attend a Belvedere Nights event, even though the sponsors paid for their first-class flights to Chicago and VIP festival tickets.

Finally the pair — who insist they didn’t know they were expected to appear — paid for their hotel room and incidentals after the furious event organizer phoned Szohr and told her he’d cancel their return flights.

A source told us, “Jessica was invited and took Ed as her plus-one. They were flown first-class and given two rooms, and her talent wrangler, Aaron, agreed they would appear at night or at one of the day lounges.

“But they never showed up,” our insider continued, “and instead they hit the minibar and ordered room service. The bill for food and booze for three nights was over $830. Publicists were calling their room and banging on their door.

“Eventually this blew up into a big argument on Sunday, when the event boss phoned Jessica and said he was canceling their flights. She said ‘We don’t need to do this. We can pay our own way.’ They left that night, and Jessica paid for everything.”

The pair, who did emerge to see bands including The Strokes and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, split up earlier this year over Szohr’s flirting with Marco Minuto, but recently started reconciling.

A rep for Szohr insisted she had no idea they were supposed to appear at the Belvedere event: “If Jessica had known, she would have gone. She was never told until Sunday, and as a result she agreed to pay for everything herself and left. There was no fight.”

Westwick’s rep added, “Ed went as Jessica’s plus-one and had no idea about any agreement or photographs he had to take. He always honors any agreements.”

He was overheard telling a group of pretty girls he and Szohr were “no longer together” while catching the Kings of Leon concert at the Borgata in Atlantic City Saturday.

A spy said, “Ed was dancing with a swarm of girls around him, and he was telling everyone he was single. He carried on the party later with Kings bassist Jared Followill.”

Other stars at the concert included Tinsley Mortimer and Amanda Hearst.

Ed Westwick ran scared from the Roosevelt Hotel in LA because the crowd surrounding tech hottie Olivia Munn was too much for the newly single Westwick to handle.

Munn, who hosts a show on the G4 cable channel for gamers, was there for the launch party for the Capcom’s “Lost Planet 2.”

“Hundreds of men and women were waiting for her with their cellphones, flip cams, Blackberries and iPhones,” a witness said.

“Gossip Girl” co-stars and real-life lovers Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr did their best to put the breakup rumors to bed at Maxim’s Super Bowl party at the Raleigh in Miami.

“They spent most of the night dodging cameras in one of the back cabanas, where they were making out like crazy,” says a spy.

“It looked like they were having sex.” Also knocking back tequila shots at the party were Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner, Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo.

“GOSSIP Girl” villain Ed Westwick has certainly become accustomed to late nights in New York. The British actor hit the Beatrice Inn Monday night, where he threw back whiskey shots and “flirted with every girl there.” “He was completely trashed and dancing with a group of girls that were all over him,” said our spy. He was also overheard talking music with DJ Reach, saying his band, the Filthy Youth, was better than most American ones. “He was yelling that all other bands were rubbish,” said our spy. Westwick stayed until closing time.
