Ellen DeGeneres hosts a special “Halloween” episode airing on Monday, October 31st. Ellen reveals her costume as Youtube singing sensation Sophia Grace.

Ellen on her costume and her hype girl, Rosie…
“Hello, Happy Halloween… (in a British accent)…I’m not using any H’s or any pants. This is a new thing for me today. I’m Sophie Grace. I can’t do this without my cousin, my hype girl. Come out here Rosie…Honestly, I can’t believe I’m wearing this outfit. It took four people to get me into to this. One (person) really to put it on and three to keep me from running away. No, it didn’t take four. It took one person and a lot of tequila…It’s always hard for me to decide what to be each year because I have a few rules, no dresses, no pink and no wigs. So that worked out, said talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

This Sunday’s issue of PARADE features a very revealing cover story Ellen DeGeneres, where she opens up about Hollywood’s reaction when she came out as a lesbian, life with Portia, her decision to leave American Idol, and more. She tells PARADE that coming out as a lesbian was more of a shock to herself, and that her family approved, while Hollywood did not. She also talks about behind-the-scene “nastiness” at American Idol.

Here are some more highlights from the Ellen DeGeneres interview in PARADE:

On dealing with rejection in Hollywood after she came out as a lesbian in 1997:
“I didn’t work, didn’t have any money. No one [in the business] would even talk to me on the phone.” With the outline of her talk show in hand, she finally convinced Hollywood that she was “not just gay,” she says, but “a funny woman who happens to be gay.”

DeGeneres says her own family was more understanding when she came out at age 18:
“If anything, it was a shock to me. I’d always known that I had crushes on girls, but I also liked boys-though I wasn’t drawn to them romantically. For me to get in touch with myself enough to recognize that I was gay, and then not to stay private about it, was a huge step.”

DeGeneres found the behind-the-scenes nastiness of American Idol off-putting:
“It was disappointing to hear things about the kids, the drama going on. Some of them are not as grateful as you would expect. All of a sudden they have fan mail, millions of people saying they’re great, and some of them just stop appreciating it.”

Chris: She’s been a great beard for me now, for 10 years.

Ellen: Is that right? It’s not really a real relationship? She just pretends that she’s your wife.

Chris: Yeah, it’s hard to believe. (Laughing)

Ellen: I know that this is your first relationship…So, really before you were in a relationship with Gwyneth. You didn’t have a serious relationship at all? What was the longest relationship you were in before Gwyneth?

Chris: I think a lot of people like me and Jonny join bands because we were really not doing so well.

Ellen: With women?

Chris: …With anybody.

Jonny: I think the longest relationship we’ve had istogether.

Chris: Yes.

Ellen: Which is how long now?

Jonny: About 14 years.

Who can resist the adorable faces of turkeys gobbling for compassion at Thanksgiving? Not Ellen DeGeneres. That’s why she’s back for the second year in a row to serve as Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey Project spokesperson, inviting everyone to save, not eat, a turkey this holiday season.

Says DeGeneres: “Did you know that every year between 250 and 300 million turkeys are bred for slaughter in the United States? More than 46 million for Thanksgiving alone. So, this Thanksgiving instead of eating a turkey, please join me in adopting one from Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey Project and you can give a turkey something to be thankful for.”

For 25 years, the Adopt-A-Turkey Project has put smiles on the faces of both carnivores and vegetarians alike, while providing support for the care of more than 1,000 rescued turkeys and inspiring people everywhere to make more compassionate choices. For a one-time donation of just $30, adopters or a recipient of their choice will receive a special Adopt-A-Turkey certificate complete with color photo of a rescued turkey who resides at one of Farm Sanctuary’s shelters and fun details about their adopted turkey.

This year’s irresistible flock of “adoptable” turkeys include Skip, who advises prospective adopters “When preparing Thanksgiving dinner, skip the turkey!;” Antoinette, who declares ”Let them eat squash!;” Elizabeth, who demurs “This Thanksgiving, give a turkey the royal treatment;”Victoria, who proclaims ”A holiday feast that’s cruelty-free is one fit for a queen;” Payton, who counsels “In a ton of ways, compassion pays;”Amelinda, who reveals “I’ll be having a happy Thanksgiving, thanks to kind people like you;” and Raphael, who pleads “Picture a more compassionate world. Start with Thanksgiving.”

“We’re thrilled to have Ellen’s support again this year,” says Farm Sanctuary President and Co-Founder Gene Baur. “Here at Farm Sanctuary, we live with turkeys, so we know they are interesting and intelligent and have complex emotional lives like dogs, cats and other animals. Sadly, the meat industry subjects turkeys to intolerable cruelty and treats them like inanimate objects with no feelings or personalities. Fortunately, each one of us can choose not to support this cruelty by adopting a turkey at Thanksgiving instead of eating one.”

Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization, promotes legislative, policy, and individual lifestyle changes to help farm animals. Ellen DeGeneres’ Beverly Hills home is now officially on the market for $49 million. This home is actually a collection of three separate purchases renovated into one magnificent sprawl that offers nine bedrooms and an enviable 2.87 acres of prime Beverly Hills land.

Need more reasons to buy this home? DeGeneres and de Rossi were married here in 2008 – wedding pictures show the pair frolicking around the grounds. The home is also featured in the November issue of Architectural Digest.

EXCLUSIVE: AT HOME WITH THE DESIGN-SAVVY COUPLE

Comedian-cum–talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, actor Portia de Rossi, grace the cover of AD’s November issue, sharing with us their Beverly Hills home, built by the renowned architects Buff & Hensman and later expanded by interior designer Melinda Ritz.

Originally constructed for actor Laurence Harvey, the 9,500-square-foot single-story residence has been inhabited over the years by actor Joan Collins and, most recently, the couple’s friend Will & Grace cocreator Max Mutchnick. “We’d heard how beautiful it was,” remembers De Rossi, “and then we came over to watch American Idol. We pulled into the driveway and—we just knew before we even walked through the gate.”

Which is not to suggest DeGeneres didn’t have big plans for it. The comedian enlisted a handful of Los Angeles dealers and decorators—among them Tommy and Kathleen Clements, Cliff Fong, and Harrison Holman—to help her cherry-pick furniture, objects, and art for the house. DeGeneres also purchased two neighboring properties, replacing one with a pond and several dozen carob, pear, and oak trees. The estate feels tailor-made to the couple’s needs, from the pool where De Rossi swims laps, to the media room where the pair were married and “live at night,” to the meditation room where they get massages.

Real-estate-obsessed DeGeneres has lost track of exactly how many homes she has owned but says the Beverly Hills compound is the seventh she and De Rossi have shared—one for every year they’ve been together.

The November issue of Architectural Digest is available on newsstands October 11.

“DWTS” CHAZ BONO makes an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday, September 14th. Ellen surprises Chaz with a phone from his biggest supporter, his mother, Cher and discusses the controversy surrounding him taking part in “DWTS.”

Ellen surprises Chaz with a phone call from his mother Cher…

Ellen: We have someone on the phone… Hello, Cher. It’s your Mom.

Cher: Hi Sweetheart. How are you?

Ellen: I’m fantastic. How are you?

Cher:I’m good.

Ellen: I was just saying to Chaz. What a brave human being. You must be so proud of how brave he is?

Cher: I am. Chaz and I actually talked about this several times over the years and then nothing happened. And in one way I thought, oh god, this is going to be so terrible. He is going to have to go through so much. The way he’s handled himself. You know, my child, is a wonderful child.

Chaz: Thank you.

Cher on her thoughts of people boycotting “DWTS”

Ellen: I have to hear this because I adore when speak your mind. I just want to hear your thoughts on people that are saying that they should boycott the show. They’re asking people not to watch “DWTS.” What would you say to them?

Cher: You know, I don’t know if people are that determined…if you got that excess time and that amount of hostility, I’m not so sure that I can say anything to you that would make you change your feelings. Because you know those are such feelings of hostility and fear, that I don’t know that I would have any magic words to make you feel more comfortable and to soothe you into not being terrified of my child dancing on “Dancing With The F*#%ing Stars.”

Ellen: There you go. That’s what I’m saying. That is the key thing to remember. This is your child. I think if any mother out there listening to this.. What if someone attacked your child? Try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Chaz on how his dancing is going…

Chaz: Hi, Mom and thanks for all the support and I’ll give you a call later.

Cher: How is your dancing?

Chaz: …My first dance is pretty good. The Cha Cha. The Quick Step gives me nightmares but I’m starting to feel pretty confident. We did it for some of the other people on the show today and they seem to really like it.

Cher: I got to tell you something. You doing this dance is about as scary as you making the “change” (laughing)

Ellen: That is hilarious.

JOSH DUHAMEL of “Tranformers: Dark of the Moon” makes an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, May 19th. Ellen talks with Josh about how he surprised wife, Fergie with romantic trip for their 2nd wedding anniversary. Plus, Ellen finds out how many kids they want to have.

Josh on how he surprised Fergie with a weekend get away…

Ellen: Happy 2nd wedding anniversary.

Josh: Yeah, (gives thumbs up) we had a blast. I actually surprised her. I like to surprise her

Ellen: This is really romantic. I know what you did.

Josh: My wife is very regimented. She likes everything scheduled out. So I told her to be ready by 10:30 in the morning on whatever day that it was. She had no idea. So was ready to go. She was like what are we doing? She didn’t know what we were doing. We get in the car. We drive out towards the airport. She was like, where are we going? I don’t have anything packed. She looks in the back and all of her bags are packed. We go to La Paz in Mexico, this beautiful resort, really private. She was like, oh this is the most romantic thing you’ve ever done. I can’t believe this. About three hours later she’s vomiting all over the place…She got sick for like a day and half. I was like, Happy Anniversary babe. I’m going to surf ..no, but she felt better. She got over it.

Ellen: So she enjoyed some of time?

Josh: We had a few good days.

Josh on wanting kids…

Ellen: I would assume that you two would make some cute babies. Any interest in having kids?

Josh: Yeah.

Ellen: Really?

Josh: Yeah, I mean it’s something I always wanted.

Ellen: You want a lot of babies?

Josh: I used to want five, six but you know, probably not realistic anymore. Plus, I’m probably a little more selfish than I thought I was. So I think two is good. I think two is a good number. You can give them the right amount of attention but whatever. We’re both from Catholic families we like to procreate

Ellen: So you may have like six or seven… you’d ignore the other five or something,

Josh: I would pick out my two favorites and ignore the others…
