Jamie Foxx has been named to host the Michael Jackson tribute concert planned for October in Wales.

Foxx’s spokesman said Monday that the Oscar-winning star of “Ray” would host “Michael Forever – The Tribute Concert.” It is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Cardiff, Wales.

Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson and Cee Lo Green are among the show’s announced performers.

The show is not affiliated with Michael Jackson’s estate, but Jackson’s mother, Katherine, and other Jackson family members are scheduled to attend.

Organizers had to rescind an offer to the band Kiss last month after fans and Jackson’s estate noted that singer-bassist Gene Simmons had harshly criticized the pop singer over the years.

When Foxx took the stage at the Apollo in the Hamptons benefit at Ronald Perelman’s East Hampton estate Saturday night, he announced that he’ll be bringing back the variety show that ended its 21-year run in 2008.

It included performances by professionals and amateurs who were sometimes booed off the stage, including Foxx as a young comedian. He said, “The Apollo did it long before ‘American Idol,’ except the audience were the judges.” Foxx will executive-produce the show for BET. Other performers at the bash, which raised more than $1 million for Harlem education programs, were Alicia Keys, Jon Bon Jovi and Apollo legends Ben E. King and Bettye LaVette. Those in the audience included Matt Lauer, Richard Gere, LA Reid, Ron Meyer, Penny Marshall, Pharrell Williams, Jimmy Buffett, Google’s Eric Schmidt, City Council Speaker Chris Quinn and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Actor/singer Jamie Foxx had to be rescued by security guards on Thursday after he was attacked by a man at a Hollywood party featuring R&B superstar Usher.

The Ray star was a guest at the Belvedere Red bash at Los Angeles hotspot Avalon when he became engaged in a lengthy conversation with another attendee.

According to TMZ.com, a fight erupted between the two men shortly after Usher took to the stage to perform and Foxx was reportedly placed in a headlock.

Video footage obtained by the website shows club security intervening in the scuffle and escorting the unidentified male out of the venue.

Police were not called to the scene and no injuries were reported after the incident.

Call her the guardian angel for Jamie Foxx’s music career.

The Oscar and Grammy winner said Tuesday his 16-year-old daughter, Corinne, gave him the best advice when he began recording music.

“When I first started I was doing this little slow music, you know, just R&B … and my daughter walked in and said, ‘What you doing?’ I said, ‘I’m working on the album.’ She said, ‘I hope you don’t put that on there because you going to put everybody to sleep,’” Foxx said.

His daughter told him reach out to younger artists to aid in his music career. And that’s exactly what the 43-year-old performer did.

In 2005 Foxx released “Unpredictable,” a double-platinum album that featured production work and guest appearances from Kanye West, Ludacris and Tank. He followed that with 2008′s “Intuition,” another platinum CD that featured the Grammy-winning party jam, “Blame It.” And this week Foxx released “Best Night of My Life”; the album has collaborations with top acts like Drake, Justin Timberlake, Rick Ross and T.I.

“A lot of times in order to be successful with music, you have to listen and sometimes allow other people to sort of steer you in the right direction,” Foxx said.
