There was an elephant in the room of Nicole Richie’s and Joel Madden’s wedding this weekend — literally.

The couple of four years — who have two children together, Harlow, 2, and Sparrow, 15 months — tied the knot in front of approximately 130 guests on Saturday at Lionel Richie’s Los Angeles home, people.com reported.

A trained elephant was also reportedly seen being led onto the estate of the 29-year-old bride’s father.

Richie and Madden, 31, exchanged Neil Lane rings during the winter-themed ceremony as their daughter, Harlow, 2, played flower girl, according to usmagazine.com.

Masha Gordon, an old friend of Richie’s, reportedly served as maid of honor and Madden’s twin brother, Good Charlotte band mate Benji, was best man.

The musician’s older brother, DJ Josh Madden, took to Twitter to commemorate the event.

“The stuff of which memories are made,” he tweeted.

Gwen Stefani, Ashlee Simpson and Samantha Ronson also reportedly attended the wedding, along with Khloe Kardashian, who tweeted, “I love weddings!” from the ceremony.

Richie wore a custom-made Marchesa gown and celeb stylist Byron Williams of Byron & Tracey in Beverly Hills tamed her locks, eonline.com reported.

The couple, who announced their engagement in February, are not the first in Hollywood to include an elephant at their wedding. In October, Katy Perry and Russell Brand invited two elephants to their nuptials in India.

The pair – who have a two-year-old daughter Harlow and 14-month-old son Sparrow together – are said to be planning to marry during the first week of December.

A source told X17online: “I heard Nicole Richie talking excitedly to Christina Aguilera about her upcoming wedding. She said, ’29 days to go!’”

However, the nuptials will not be the only event the couple – who have been dating for over four years – will host, as they are also believed to be holding a “decoy event” to throw paparazzi off the scent of the real wedding.

Nicole’s close friend Christina Aguilera – who an insider has revealed is “practically living at Nicole’s house” – is also in talks with the pair to perform during their big day.

Meanwhile, it would appear the couple are keen for the newly single singer – who filed for divorce from husband Jordan Bratman three weeks ago – to get out and have fun.

Over the weekend Christina was spotted out with Joel, Nicole and Matthew D. Rutler, a set assistant from her new movie ‘Burlesque’.

An onlooker told E! Online: “The group was hanging out in a corner of the private club together. Christina and Matt were cuddling on a couch together and left holding hands.”

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s wedding might be sooner than expected – the socialite-turned-jewellery designer is already calling the rocker her husband.

Appearing on late-night U.S. chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, Richie refused to correct the host when he kept referring to the Good Charlotte star as her husband.

When Kimmel quipped, “Thankyou for being here on your husband’s 31st birthday…” Richie smiled and responded, “I’m so excited to be spending it with you.” The comedian later referred to Madden’s twin brother Benji as her brother-in-law.

The host later corrected himself by explaining Richie is engaged to the rocker.

At the Oscars on Sunday, where Madden was the house DJ, Richie was asked about her wedding plans and joked, “It’s tomorrow… We actually wanted to do it here.”

Nicole Richie has joked fiance Joel Madden has no say in their forthcoming nuptials.

The reality TV star and the Good Charlotte rocker – who have two children, Harlow, two, and five-month-old Sparrow – announced their engagement last month but admit Nicole is the one in charge of the plans.

Talking about the wedding, Joel said: “It’s the same thing as our engagement, we’re kind of doing it at our own pace. We have no idea right now.”

Nicole then quipped: “Like he has any say.”

The couple are also disagreeing what kind of wedding they want.

Joel added: “According to her we’ll have a really big wedding. According to me, it will be really small.”

Nicole and Joel attended last night’s Oscars together and joked they were set to tie the knot imminently.

When asked about the date of their big day, Nicole deadpanned: “It’s tomorrow.”

Joel – who performed a DJ set at the ceremony – quipped: “I thought it would be cool to do it here.”

Although their engagement was announced last month, the couple had secretly been engaged for some time.

Joel tweeted recently: “Yep. I’m engaged. Very happy.

“Yeah we’ve been engaged for a while so your all kind of late on that. But Thanks for the hooplah all the same.”

The couple denied that they had plans to marry as late as last year, and were in no plans to rush into tying the knot.

Nicole said: “One day I would love to get married. It’s not something we’re talking about right now. If my kids ask me to get married, I’d get married.”

Nicole Richie is getting married.

The socialite confirmed yesterday that she is officially engaged to her rocker boyfriend Joel Madden – with whom she has daughter Harlow, two, and five-month-old son Sparrow – when she appeared on ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’, showing off a large engagement ring.

She then joined friends at New York restaurant Abe and Arthurs, where she was overheard talking about her impending nuptials.

A source said: “She was glowing. She was telling her table how happy she was.”

Good Charlotte singer Joel, 30, later confirmed the news – revealing they had managed to keep their engagement secret for some time.

He tweeted: “Yep.

If my kids ask me to get married, I’d get married.

“I think for both of us, we are going to do it because we want to, not because that’s what you do. We’re going to do it when the time’s right.”

However, it has been reported that the couple are planning to marry this summer and wedding plans are already well under way.
