When I read the synopsis of “MoneyBall” the first thing I thought about was my Evans Administration team. Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland A’s attempt to put together a successful baseball team despite a decreased budget has so many similarities to our team.
As many of you know I am Juice McCain’s publicist and his brand and label is The Evans Administration. What many people don’t realize is that Juice has changed my life both personally and professionally.
Our Evans Administration team is very similar to a baseball team. We have Primo, our Billy Beane and general manager. We have our all star hitter, Juice, who continually makes hits and knocks them out of the park. We have several other artists on the team, including Mat-Trix and Millionz better known as “The Kennedys” – and of course we have me, the promo machine and publicist making sure the public knows when the games are and shows up.
Watching Juice put together this team and watching the team grow has been an amazing experience. Conventional wisdom tells us that as an independent unsigned artist the chances of making it in the music industry are slim. Juice has never once let that stop him. Every morning around 8AM I get a text good morning and a second text of three words “words of wisdom”. Every morning Juice and I share our favorite quotes from athletes, celebrities, motivational speakers and yes, even the bible. These quotes help motivate us and get our mind right to start our day. When we’re done Juice shares his favorite on Twitter and Facebook with his fans. We do this regardless of whether we are tired, on vacation, in another country, on our death beds sick, and yes even when we are not liking each other very much because we have had a disagreement about something the day before and might not have spoke to each other since. I’ve never told Juice this, but there are a lot of days when that one quote makes all the difference. It’s funny how something so simple can be a game changer in your entire day.
Juice has taught me so many things both professionally and personally I would literally have to write a book to share everything. He has taught me to always follow my dreams and to never ever give up on them. He’s taught me to stand strong for what you believe in and to not back down. He’s taught me what family is and the real meaning of loyalty – but the most important thing Juice has taught me is that if you believe in yourself enough and work hard you can be whatever you want to be in life.
Keep your eyes on The Evans Administration in 2012. Billy Beane built an amazing team on a very tight budget – Juice McCain has built our team in a very similar way and we will win.
