Kathy Griffin has a history with the Creative Arts Emmys. She once gave an acceptance speech so provocative that the Catholic League condemned it.

So naturally, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences invited her back – as host.

“I’d like to think that that’s why I got the gig – that I was so offensive and shocking last year that they thought maybe I could put this thing on the map,” the comedian joked about hosting the lesser-known Emmy ceremony, which honors technical and other achievements.

During the Creative Arts Emmys telecast – taped last weekend and airing Friday – Griffin, who’s won two of the awards, maintained her tradition of irreverence.

In her opening monologue, she referred to them as “the Shmemmys.” She shared a film clip of her writhing naked in anguish after losing an Emmy. She also joked about getting intimate with Jon Gosselin and knocked “American Idol” exec (and former choreographer) Nigel Lythgoe down to the ground with her dance moves.

Producer Spike Jones Jr. said his team chose Griffin “because we wanted to rock the house.”

But not without limits.

“We do not give her free rein,” he said. “We’re very much on top of it.”

The star of “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” said she took the hosting gig because “these are my people.”

“This is our moment to shine,” she said. “It’s the hair, makeup, lighting, editing, art directing and then categories I’ve never even heard of. This is the type of show where you’re going to see stuff you would not see on a real awards show.”

Unlike most Hollywood awards shows, the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys aren’t televised live. Saturday’s ceremony was taped as it stretched on for four hours. (An edited version is set to air Friday on E!)

“It’s a lot of non-celebrities and there are literally like 75 categories, so it goes on and on and on,” Griffin said. “You have to make it interesting to the at-home audience. That’s where I come in. I make long awards shows fun and interesting.”

But it’s not always easy, she conceded.

“Sometimes I have to take my clothes off and pixelate my private parts to get a laugh.”

Last night on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” comedian Kathy Griffin joined the late-night host to chat about her autobiography “Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin” (which she claims is going to “out-sell The Bible”) as well as share a clip of her newest role as “Jon & Kate Plus 8” mother Kate Gosselin. Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights on ABC at 12:05 am/ET.

“It’s like my ‘Malcolm X’,” joked Griffin.

Kathy Griffin warns that women who undergo plastic surgery trying to look like Jennifer Aniston may live to regret it. She did.

In her just out “Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin,” the comedian includes a photo of a procedure that is “so heinous you can’t even believe it. And it’s a picture of my botched liposuction that looks like a CSI crime-scene photo.”

Talking to CNN’s Campbell Brown yesterday, Griffin said that she wants “women to know when you get liposuction trying to be Jennifer Aniston, this is what it really looks like.”

The Emmy award-winning Bravo TV star has undergone numerous plastic surgeries.

Now 48, she first had her nose done at 26.

She subsequently spent years obsessing over her appearance.

“I was on a television show and thought I could be thinner, better and happier,” said Griffin, who starred as Brooke Shields’ sidekick in the 90s series “Suddenly Susan.”

Now 115 lbs at 5 foot 3 inches tall, Griffin says she still isn’t beyond picking at her imperfections.

“Look, I am always going to want to be Jennifer Aniston, maybe more than Jennifer Aniston wants to be Jennifer Aniston,” she said.

Still, she told Time.com, “What I can’t figure out is why I wasted time worrying about my looks. I am a comedian. I’m not on the runway in Milan. Believe it or not, people don’t come to see me really thinking I’m going to look like Jennifer Aniston.”

Somewhere Kate Gosselin is steaming!

People Magazine is reporting, that today with a borrowed hairstyle and bikini-ready body, comedienne Kathy Griffin was a dead ringer for the famous mom of multiples at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood while taping an upcoming skit for Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Kathy even drew some fake scars on her stomach!

“She was walking around the hotel and people actually thought she was Kate,” says an observer.

Comedian Kathy Griffin is opening up about her struggles with low self-esteem — which lead her to try plastic surgery and weight loss diets. After moving to Hollywood, Griffin was pressured to look perfect and had her first surgery, a nose job, at age 26.

“I was told repeatedly, ‘You would be pretty if it weren’t for that nose. You’d work more if it weren’t for that nose.’ You would think I had a nose the size of Texas. I was young and impressionable and started to believe it, so I got a nose job,” she told PEOPLE. And that was only the beginning.

During Griffin’s big break on Brooke Shields’ sitcom ‘Suddenly Susan,’ she felt pressure to slim down. “I lost 15 lbs. friggin fast in season 1. But being on television, I was never thin enough. [Being on TV] told me that clothes didn’t come in anything larger than a four. That got to me,” she said.

Griffin became obsessed with her weight taking back-to-back step aerobics classes, starving herself all day and then binging at night. And the diet pills she used were like, “full-on illegal speed,” she joked. “I took it to lose weight, which is not very smart. I just felt three times as hungry afterward,” she said.

Finally, Griffin decided to go under the knife for liposuction. But complications from the procedure nearly killed her. “I want women to know that this is what lipo looks like. Like, are you sure you don’t want to just work out a little more?”

“What I can’t figure out is why I wasted time worrying about my looks. I am a comedian. I’m not on the runway in Milan. Believe it or not, people don’t come to see me really thinking I’m going to look like Jennifer Aniston,” she said.

Today, Griffin is 5 feet 3 inches tall and 115 lbs. “Staying in shape is a struggle. I struggle with it every day. I just came from a very healthy lunch but the whole time I was having the healthy lunch I wished I was having cupcakes. It’s not a simple thing. I have to watch what I eat and I have to work out quite a bit,” Griffin said.

Could the Teen Choice Awards have gotten any more bizarre?

Controversial comedian Kathy Griffin certainly lived up to her kooky reputation by bringing none other than the fame-hungry Levi Johnston to Sunday evening’s taping of the FOX Teen Choice Awards at Hollywood’s Universal Studios.

Griffin and Bristol Palin’s former fiance and baby daddy walked hand-in-hand down the red carpet to a sea of surprised expressions.

Despite the 29-year age gap between the two, Johnston seemed particularly smitten and was overheard gushing about how “beautiful” Griffin looked for the occasion. But that’s about all he was able to say — it appeared as though he’d been instructed to keep his mouth closed and instead Griffin did all the talking. Their date night continued inside the theater as the two flirted and laughed side-by-side throughout the show.

A source close to the 19-year-old Johnston said that he’s loving the “Hollywood life” and his own future reality show isn’t out of the question …

Kathy Griffin says she never went all the way with her ex, Apple co-founder billionaire Steve Wozniak.

“We were dating, but were just friendly. I never f—-d him or anything!” she told Usmagazine.com during a visit to our NYC offices last Thursday.

“The truth is,” she added, “we really were friends the whole time.”

They definitely had their laughs together, she said.

“When we went to the Emmys together, I put on this really huge engagement ring and didn’t tell him,” she told Us. “There are these great photos of me posing with this great big fake diamond ring.

“He didn’t notice!” she added. “I was like, ‘Oh, by the way at the Emmys, I had on a fake engagement ring!’ And he was like, ‘Oh, that’s very funny.’”

She announced their split in April (they met in 2007 after he watched her perform).

After they called it quits, she said “he met someone very quickly and then they [got] engaged.”

No hard feelings, said Griffin, who plans to visit Wozniak (who appears on her Bravo reality show) in Saratoga, New York, on July 11.

“I have had dinner with them, and she’s a thousand times more appropriate!” she said. “I hate to say it, but in the Bruce, Demi, Ashton [scheme of things], I’m the Bruce!”
